  1. I find many selections from paperbackswap.com Although I don't have one near me, I've heard great things about Half Price Books. I wish they had an online site!
  2. Don't feel bad... I almost wrote a response back because I used to be a teacher, and I was highly offended by the IQ comment. :)
  3. Is there a troll in this thread? That IQ comment and subsequent responses by the same poster seem entirely inappropriate.
  4. I don't know much about OM, but my 1st grader absolutely LOVES Singapore. You can move as quickly or as slowly as you want, add manipulatives, ramp it up with the Intenstive Practice and Challenging Word Problems books, and still use math in real life through this program.
  5. There must be someone who uses both! :) :bigear:
  6. Facebook Amazon (looking at books :)) Weather.com Local news sites and CNN My local library browser
  7. I was waiting for someone to post TONIC! This is what I grew up calling it (in NH) until I hit college where I was made fun of for it. So now it's soda, and that's what I'm teaching the kids even though we're down south and everyone calls it coke. :)
  8. Does anyone use these two spelling programs together? If so, how do you do it?
  9. You've already received some great suggestions, and I have nothing further to add. However, I will pray for you and give you some :grouphug:. Remember, everything is TEMPORARY. It may be awful while in it, but it will not last forever.
  10. What a wonderful post! Thank you for sharing with us!
  11. Welcome! This board is amazing! I'm southeast of Charlotte. :)
  12. I cannot imagine not watching it now that it's on, but we've been diehards since the beginning. We are looking forward to getting it all on DVD though to watch it straight through. We're thinking we'll pick up on so many things we missed. I don't know what we're going to do when it ends in 3 weeks... we love this show!
  13. We chose the US edition because it was around before the Standards edition, and I wanted something that I knew others had used and was considered solid. I've heard the Standards edition is just fine. It's based upon CA education standards, so some of the topics have been moved around or introduced a bit earlier/later. The US edition is working fine for us.
  14. Praying for you all... I wish there was an easy answer to this. God bless you.
  15. YES!!!! This is perfect!!! Brindee, thank you so much for your comments regarding my fears of stopping curriculum to go down rabbit trails... I'm going to pray over that. It really struck a chord with me. I hope I can release some of my need for control... I know it would be better for us all. This thread has been fascinating, eye-opening, and comforting all at the same time. I'm so glad I have this forum! Thank you, Alte Vesta for opening such a raw topic for me, and for everyone who has shared.
  16. Thanks, ladies! I was hung up on having a "science scale", not even thinking that other scales for hobbyists, etc. would be as good or better for our schooling purposes. My step-dad is an avid coin collector... he may even have an extra we could borrow! :)
  17. YAY!!! Congratulations to all of you!!!!
  18. This may sound like a silly question, but I'm curious as to what the Hive thinks would be best. Next year's science curriculum calls for a triple beam balance scale, so I've begun researching them. Home Science Tools sells both traditional and digital, so now I've gotten myself confused. I want what will be best for the long term. Any thoughts?
