A lot of writing for the student.

Thank you both, Lisa and Bridgid. Some important considerations AND encouragement! I have taught history in a 4 year rotation and AP Euro would be from 1450 to around 2000 or so - a fantastic amount of info.

...its a lot of work and even with an excelled student, we did not get to the last book...which looked awesome! So, if I do it again, I will definatly cut some of the books or work on the books we are familiar with so we can do the last one.

...you submit your syllabus to the board for acceptance. I have read where others were able to do this at home, for an AP class, just wondered if it is practical at all (with all the parents help, since class is only once a week) for a co-op.

Is this even possible? I want to offer AP European History at our co-op, but since we only meet once a week, I think the idea is doomed! Has anyone ever successfully done a true AP class in a co-op setting?

Well, you can do your transcript in subjects instead of chronological, and avoid stating WHEN a class was taken. However, if its not a high school class with high school text/work, you should not count it. Even then....my son learned JAVA coding with a college text and then I sent him to PS this year, they would not give credit for that. So....there seems to be some grey areas about what is best.

Not so much living history as actual history - but anything written by Albert Marrin is superb! I also enjoyed Confederates in the Attic, forgot the author, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee....so many others I cant think of right now.

Caitilin - thanks for asking. She is...the same. The stress that surrounds food is crazy unreasonable. Who ate this and who ate that. Whether she did or not, it stresses us all out. I constantly find food in her room. My other kids say she is purging still, she says no. Its so hard! She told me the other night she will contact Mercy Ministries (a free, Christian ministry to help eating disorders) - I will believe it when it happens. Anyway, thanks ladies, for everything. I guess this is kind of a swan song. I have homeschooled for about 14 years. There was a time when my passion was a bonfire. Now, it is a candle that I am trying to keep from being blown completely out. Our oldest is in college. I am putting the high school junior in ps this January (she is bulimic and the stress of trying to keep someone up in academia and handle the special needs....lets just say it was TOO MUCH), and this fall, I am putting my freshman and 6th grader in ps too. Am I way happy? No. But I am way burned out. I worry for the two younger ones, but I may worry more if they dont go to ps. Thats how burned out I feel. Just thought I would drop by. THanks.

I teach a history class and we would like to get together for movie night. I need a DEFINITIVE movie on the Civil War (factual, informative), or the Crimean War (??), Flo Nightengale.....I can think of CW movies, but nothing that quite nails it in an evening.... Thoughts, ladies??

Thank you - all. I cant believe I feel this way. I did "such and such" with my oldest, but haven't fit some of that in with child #3...and oh my, what is the deal with child #2. It is good to know that we all have those thoughts. thanks for posting! :grouphug:

Sad to say for us, I am putting my high school junior in next January. She is bulimic and the stress in my house is overwhelming. I think it will help her and reducing stress right now is very important. The school is not that great, but she will make good grades and can still do what she intends after. She knows she can change this, but...its been too long and I dont think she is able to change things. Long story. But yes, back to school for her.

We moved from San Diego to Raleigh NC 4 years ago. I hear a LOT of awful grammar. My husband is starting to take on the local colloquialisms - he is saying "I'm all tore up". I have also caught myself saying y'all. :001_huh:
