  1. Awww, I screwed up the star vote on this thread. Sorry, I was trying to give it 5 stars.
  2. My girlfriend doesn't drink at all so I was surprised to see this text. "I am at the soccer game...last regular wine of season...wrap up this weekend" Now, if it was me at the soccer game it could have read, "....last regular whine of season..." and that would have been true.
  3. Ottawa is the nations capital, the architecture is beautiful. You can get tour info here: http://www.parl.gc.ca/Visitors/index-e.html
  4. Please don't judge the rest of Canada based on your experience in Montreal. Head into Montreal with a full tank of gas, and drive back to Ontario before night fall. If you take a tour, make sure ahead of time the tour is in English. There are some friendly Montrealer's but many can come across rude, but they don't think they are being rude. My SIL felt it was like visiting with a very blunt drunk, not that everyone walks around drunk but everyone feels free to say whatever they want when they want. Does that make sense? Like Starr said, Ottawa is beautiful!
  5. My sister was told she has aspergers by the therapists who were trying to determine if her son was on the spectrum. When she told me, I wasn't surprised and it sort of made sense.
  6. MercyA, I really think it's unfair of stores to let you buy 100+ books and not throw in a free bookshelf!
  7. Congrats! Give her lots of kisses from all of us!
  8. As the mother of a bipolar young adult. I send you warm hugs. You are not alone. In the beginning I felt so alone but I found a wonderful facebook group of parents who also have child who are bipolar. They are the ones I go to frequently. I didn't have time to add a counseling session for myself into my time table, but my group has held me up in prayer, cheered with me over every single baby-step and encouraged me when I felt lost in despair. They have taught me it was ok to take time for myself and by doing so I was stronger to help my dd. I pray you find a wonderful support network like I have. If you ever need to chat, feel free to message me. Amy
  9. If you have a sub pump, include that into your list of things it needs to power. We have two panels in our house. When the power goes out, my husband can start the generator and everything we considered essential is wired into one panel. Only the items in that panel have power. I love our generator!
  10. I've been watching that issue on the forum, I don't speak it so I'm no help. I wish you could get 6-10 fluent parents willing to sit in a breakout room and chat with the kids. Then you could just hop from room to room and check on the students.
  11. Hi! I live in Canada also. Some of the highways are toll highways. So, track your route on google maps or something else to make sure you can miss those if you don't want to have to pay. If you do use them, they take a picture of your license plate, make sure you are watching for your bill ASAP because some friends have had some serious "late fees" and things ended up in collections really quick! For most of Ontario, it seems the kids go back to school on Sept 8th. Traffic is bad around the Greater Toronto Area also refered to as the GTA. Make sure you have medical travel insurance.
  12. Waves Wildly!!! Hi Renai! I'm helping out with the Study Skills class this year. My son loved VHSG last year and my daughter is excited she gets to take a class this year for the first time. I honestly, didn't realize how much work Tammy does to keep that site running! Her husband must be a saint!
  13. Susan, I can't remember when I read your third volume if you did this or not. But please try to calm down over excited parents who are pulling their children out of the school system. When we pulled our kids from the system they were in grades 2 & 4. I made all the typical mistakes. - tried to recreate school at home - started my kids at the grade they were supposed to be in stead of assess to see where they actually were - bought all the new shiny things and gave 3/4 of it away afterwards - had my kids doing work from 9-3 everyday just like the school kids here have classes - you name it I probably made that mistake.
  14. Can your Dad help you now get everything set up? If Dad would agree, I'd get the phone number changed ASAP and block the son's number.
  15. abba12 - thank you for venting. Apparently, many of us needed that! :) Here's my vent: 22 years of being married to a dairy farmer. Cows must be milked twice a day 12 hours apart, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We milk at 5:30AM and 5:30pm. This doesn't change. We arranged our wedding around milking times. Any big event around milking times. Heck my foolish FIL wouldn't tell anyone he was having a heart attack until milking was done that morning. (yes, he was stupid to do this) My family attempts to plan every single family dinner for 5pm at a house 45 mins away from our house. I've started to not bother saying anything other than to send my regrets. Now I'm getting "labeled" anti-social and told I need to try harder to see my family. People this is how I feed my family and pay my bills get with the program!!!!
  16. Lucidity, can you share the blog where you found that "tip" or explain the tip for us. I'm loving Skedtrack, did you know you can import and export lesson plans other people have created. I'd be happy to share my lesson plans with others.
  17. As a farmers wife, I totally get this concept and it doesn't bother me one bit! LOL
  18. Well, this was a surprise! Thank you ladies. I had a great birthday.
  19. Have you spoke with Mom and Dad about your concerns?
  20. My son is on book 2 of Sutcliff's series. He is enjoying it.
  21. Just don't let your kids leave the kindle on the couch and toss a laundry basket on top. The screen will be cracked.
