  1. If I send the kids out to ambush their father, then the hose is an acceptable defense for Dad to use. I tend to LOCK the doors and stand there in the window LICKING ice cream. Usually, they end up spraying all the windows for me to let them in. Bonus, I get clean windows.
  2. We delayed treatment. It was suggested we go in when dd#3 was 8. We decided to wait. When she turned 12 we made an appointment to speak with the ortho. The expander was installed and after 4 weeks she was done expanding. She goes in beginning of May for the braces. Ask what would happen if you simply delayed treatment for another year. What would be the pros and cons. One pro might be her maturity to handle the gagging might improve.
  3. klmama, are you part of their FB group? They have a poll on there right now where parents can check off what classes they are interested in for next year. If the class gets a volunteer teacher, then it could be offered. We as volunteer teachers have to say what we will teach by mid-July. I can see that Physics (Live) has had 34 votes so far. :)
  4. A few years back, all the boys in the 2 grade 8 classes ended up at home with CP over the course of 3 months. All had their vaccinations. Not a single girl in the class came down with them. Parents talked about it for the rest of the year. One poor boy ended up hospitalized. I've wondered if it will affect him having kids in the future. All four of my kids caught the CP so there have been no vax for that here.
  5. We've been using http://www.asapchecks.com/shop/c-4389.htm for 5-6 years now. They've been great to work with and much cheaper than our bank.
  6. We will be using Introductory Horticulture from this website https://www.clp.org/store/by_course/116 However, I bought the textbook much cheaper on Amazon. I did buy the the teacher and student Materials from CLP. My dd#2 is at Agriculture college and this textbook covers what she learned there. I figured it would give him a good base if he chooses to attend the same college as his sister.
  7. You as a parent can sign up for the AYOP option and take a look at the course. Try a few lessons and see how things are presented. My kids aren't at that level yet so we've never used it.
  8. I was that parent. We discovered our dd was cutting and suicidal. We allowed her to tell others that she was being grounded by us because of her attitude and dropping school grades. In reality, she was scared to death that others would find out the truth. We forced her to cut back on all activities and she didn't leave our sight for months. That just reinforced that I was crazy mother. I was fine with her friends thinking I was the evil mother, my shoulders are big enough to be labeled "The evil mother". But, I was hurt by some of my adult friends who thought I was just taking things overboard, when in reality, I was fighting for my daughters life and trying to keep her privacy. Please extend grace to the girl and her family. IF her situation is like my families situation, then in the future she might want to come back and work for you. That wasn't an option for my daughter.
  9. I ended up dividing my kids up. I bought the study guide for HoAW and use it with my son.
  10. I use Trello to help new local homeschool moms with special needs kids. We set up boards and I'll put resource links in for them to explore and together I help them cobble together a curriculum that works for their specific child's quirks and quarks. It is also very handy for keeping two parents on board with what has been taught and what needs to be done still. Then as a parent finds additional resources they can add them to the plan.
  11. My dd was depressed and suicidal at age 20. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with bipolar. She is a fighter. My dd created a four week cycle for herself. She sees a psychiatrist, a teen health social worker, a councellor and a mentor. Each week she has someone she needs to go see to talk things through. She signed documents so all four can talk to each other and with us parents. She fights depression and suicidal thoughts daily but knows that the best way to win each day is to have a "team" bigger than her depression. Is there any sort of mentor, counselor, teen health unit that you can access to give him more support? Our local mental health unit also hosts "family" workshops where they explain mental health to the family and really help the teens find a way to vocalize what is going on in their heads. Try reaching out to different groups and see what they have to offer.
  12. Make sure you take the placement test to ensure your student is put into the right level.
  13. Sorry, computer didn't refresh until after I posted. No passports. Ok. Greenfield Village https://www.thehenryford.org/current-events/calendar/#perPage=20&pageNum=1&date=2016-06-23 Henry Ford Museum https://www.thehenryford.org/current-events/calendar/#perPage=20&pageNum=1&date=2016-06-23&f.attraction=museum Detroit Institute of Art http://www.dia.org/ Some ideas from trip advisor. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attractions-g42139-Activities-Detroit_Michigan.html 50 free things to do around Detroit https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/detroit/50-best-free-things-to-do-in-detroit I hope this helps! :)
  14. https://www.groupon.com/local/detroit/sightseeing Now, if you are able to come to Canada. The museum is right around the corner from me and I live on a dairy farm. LOL :) Adult and Child Admission at Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village (Up to C $24 Off).
  15. Do you know that museums have reciprocal memberships? You might want to investigate that. The Deal$36 for a one-year ambassador level membership ($65 value)Membership benefits include access to the Detroit Historical Society’s online database of historical artifacts, free museum parking, and reciprocal membership at more than 200 historical museums in the U.S.
  16. What ages? And when are you coming? I'm checking the local groupons for cheap deals for you.
  17. You should cross over to Windsor, Ontario, Canada and meet me and my gang for lunch!
  18. She is finishing grade 7. I know it's early yet and she's young enough to change her mind and do so repeatedly. So, what suggestions could you make for me? I own all the Apologia and Saxon texts and most of the CLEP prep books listed below. However, if you would like to suggest something different please explain why! I'm all ears and open to making alternate purchases if necessary. These are the requirements for the college: (U/M) + (U) are University entry leveled courses; © College entry level courses. OSSD (Ontario Diploma) with 6 Grade 12 (U/M) courses (Historically, the college has allowed homeschoolers to use a CLEP(or ALEKS for math) exam to prove the ability of the student in that subject at the high school level) These courses are required Grade 12 English CLEP College Composition exam Chemistry CLEP Chemistry exam Biology CLEP Biology exam Grade 12 (U) or © Math ALEKS test These courses could be used to make for a total of 6 grade 12 (U/M) courses or equivalent Intro to Psychology CLEP Introductory Psychology Human development CLEP The Human Growth and Development exam The college won't accept CLEP exams to allow a student to test out of a course, but they DO like them from homeschoolers to show that the student could do the work. This is what I've penciled out so far: Grade 9 Saxon Algebra 2 Apologia Physical Science Grade 10 Saxon Advanced Math first. Apologia Biology Grade 11 Apologia Advanced Biology - then take the CLEP Biology exam Calculus Since she will be taking Intro to Psychology in college, I'm wondering if I should have her take the CLEP Introductory Psychology test to give her a good basis. Grade 12 Apologia Chemistry - semester 1 semester 2 Apologia Advanced Chemistry - then take the CLEP Chemistry exam Statistics She can access the Dual Credit Enrollment program this year and earn up to 6 credit hours at the college. 3 credits each semester. Human Anatomy/Human Physiology is another topic I'm wondering if I should plan something more in depth for. She could also take The Human Growth and Development CLEP exam She wanted me to let her fast track so she could head to college at age 16. We said no. Be a kid, be a teen. Study like crazy if you want but we would give her no pressure to get to college by age 16 because frankly she can't do some of the placements until she is over 18 legally anyways. No use doing all the courses and then being left behind by your classmates just because you are too young. A Professor in the program whispered that the textbooks are selected anew every few years and that my dd should get an older copy and work through them in high school which I think we will do as we use the Apologia. I can match up the chapters.
  19. When we asked about PANDAS for our eldest daughter. I was told no, impossible she was 19 years old, she's an adult. It's called Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. I looked at the dr and asked if disorders or diseases know when a human body turns from 17 to age 18? The dr agreed to let us use ibuphren for 1 month in a twice a day low dose to see if her symptoms improved. She was less combative, better able to deal with stress, even able to say, "I'm stressed/anxious/fearful, I need to do xyz right now". This was a huge improvement. But the psychiatrists had sent a report stating that dd was bipolar so after that they would only treat the bipolar diagnosis.
  20. Since he has told his employer if other people working there start having the same issue they will know it's an in house problem.
  21. I can tell you that the Fix it! program has been a success for my son. He has transferred what he learned into his everyday work. Start with Book 1 and he might fly through parts of it but it is a good base.
  22. Could you double side print it? LOL I don't know why it's doing this. On a side note, I finally figured out why my grades weren't calculating right.
