  1. I'm not allowed to go near the bulls on our farm when Aunt Flo is around, neither are my daughters. Animals can tell.
  2. Hi Jess, I'm in Ontario. We bought an AmScope microscope and it is lovely to use. At AmScope the price is $ 199 - on sale right now! Here is the link: http://www.amscope.com/40x-2500x-led-digital-monocular-compound-microscope-w-3d-stage-1-3mp-usb-imager.html At Amazon.ca the price is $ 556 here is the link: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00A15CTRQ?keywords=Amscope%20M620C-E1&qid=1452478705&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 We went with one with a digital camera because our kids have an eye condition.
  3. email the company and ask if they have any suggestions
  4. When I signed up for emails 14 year ago. I learned how to filter those emails quickly. Start by sending ALL the FlyLady emails over to a specific folder. After a few days you will start to see a pattern. For example: One you might want to keep is always starts with the label "Flight Plan for" This has your daily flight plan in it. Create a new email rule that any email with the words "Flight Plan for" gets to stay in your main email. The rest of the FlyLady emails continue to go to that folder you set up. Slowly, you can bring over the emails you want and leave the rest. After the 1st year I knew what I want to keep seeing and I changed the rule to just delete the emails I didn't want to see.
  5. Hi Tanaqui, My sensitive dd12 handled it just fine. It was part of a book club so there were kids as young as 7 (parents read to them) up to age 13. I think this book has inspired the philanthropist in my daughter.
  6. I finished my closet yesterday, but I did take the clothes that are too small to the basement because I will be losing weight this year and I can't afford to replace them. In the process of decluttering my closet I was able to hang everything in my dresser. Now, other than under garments everything is in my closet and I have a dresser that is 75% empty. After supper, the kids and I are going to pack up the Christmas tree.
  7. We just finished reading "A Long Walk to Water" It was really good. This is also a prepared unit study about it if that would help you. http://www.amazon.com/Long-Walk-Water-Based-Story/dp/0547577311/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1451716155&sr=1-1&keywords=a+long+walk+to+water

  9. I was wondering about an update also.
  10. Last year my theme was Grace. I think I did pretty good extending grace to those around me. I, however am not good at extending grace to myself. So, I've decided to keep the same theme but apply it to myself also. With that in mind, I emptied my closet took out all the too small clothes and put them into the basement. Then I hung up all the clothes that still fit. Literally, everything I own other than my bathing suit and under garments fits on 24 inches of closet rod. I'm cool with that because now when I look at my closet I see things that make me happy and not $$$ wasted at this point. I also ate a big breakfast, did 2 planks for as long as I could as my exercise and drank my water. Here is to a thinner me in the future without feeling bad that I got to this point. I'm just looking ahead excited about where I'm going. :)
  11. I like paper for personal and I use skedtrek for school. Just so I can easily print out reports for our portfolio at the end of the year.
  12. Just curious, klmama did you need the teachers edition book? I'm not really familiar with Abeka.
  13. Sorry hugssandi, The popcorn was because I was interested and bumping this thread so others would see it. :) Then I've been offline until today. Thanks for starting this thread! :)
  14. http://www.spellingcity.com/commonly-misspelled-words.html If you google "spellingcity.com" + "middle school" You find this: http://www.spellingcity.com/middle-school-vocabulary.html I was able to find spelling word lists that went with the spelling program we use by subbing out 'middle school' with our program name.
  15. Therapist wants us to buy WordQ software has anyone used this? http://onlinestore.strategictransitions.com/category_s/38.htm How does your child like it? How do you like it? It's pricey ($200) and I don't want to buy software that we won't use in the long run. Does anyone know where to find this cheaper? I check homeschoolbuyerscoop and they don' t carry it.
  16. Hey Ladies, could you share this with your homeschool groups! We have been offered the opportunity to be Beta testers for Scribble Maps classroom edition. Scribble Maps was created by my cousin and his team. It is used by students, hobbyists, governments, and even the military when you have a map and just need to scribble on it. They have now created a classroom edition, where you as a teacher can assign work to your students and grade your students work right online. This will be so AWESOME for geography classes in a co-op setting. You can see the video overview here: When you are ready to check it out for yourself. Head over to https://scribblemaps.com/create/#lat=36.879620605027014&lng=-40.78125&z=3&t=hybridand at the bottom of the page you will see a place to register for Scribble Maps. When you are ready to set up your class assignments. Click this link: https://classroom.scribblemaps.com/#/classroomsand set up your classroom. I am so excited that Jonathan has offered this opportunity to homeschoolers! He wants to hear our experiences with this product and I would love to hear how you used it with your homeschool curriculum.
  17. My daughter cut also. One thing I've learned is that a cutter can be a cutter for life. They need to learn some skills to put in their emotional "toolbox" so they can turn their stress into something positive and stop the cutting. You getting a job isn't the issue. Your son needing to learn how to hand his stress is the issue. You need to let him own his own feelings and not assume you are the reason every time he makes a bad choice. You are not forcing him to cut. Please get him and yourself some help. Love, a momma who has walked this road.
  18. If the barking happens every night, I'd send the dog to my parents for a week. So, when the police show up again I could smile and say the dog hasn't even been home. Maybe the neighbor needs a shock collar........
  19. My DD was diagnoised Bipolar over a year ago. You will get through this. Here is my DD's blog: www.defyingshadows.com I found help from other parents here (this group is mostly Americans): https://www.facebook.com/groups/276692175692925/?ref=browser Because I'm in Ontario, Canada, this Ontario group was helpful since our health care system is set up differently. https://www.facebook.com/groups/332143846966104/?ref=browser Also, please feel free to message me. Just knowing that someone else is there to chat with will help. https://www.facebook.com/Amy.on.the.Farm
  20. I help out over at http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.org/ For a small donation your child could be taking science, math and some literature courses online. I've been helping out with a Study Skills class there and I enjoy working with the group of parents.
  21. We are using the Dairy Cattle curriculum this year. http://www.4-hmall.org/Category/dairy-cattle.aspx
