  1. Does anyone know of lesson plans to go along with these two books to flesh them out and make a high school class out of them? I'm not looking for alternatives to these books because I already own these and the online logic class I was going to have her take fell through, so I'm trying to scramble and put something together with what is on my shelves. TIA
  2. Just starting to lay out our high school plan and wondering if there are current thoughts or ideas on the online or software packages available. Is Edu-Track still a useful program? What about Donna Young and her planners/programs? are they still relevant and applicable? any new programs or products that folks have tried and liked? Thanks in Advance!! Pam
  3. I just discoverd Homeschool Skedtrack, and I need more info about it. I would appreciate your opinion (pros and cons) if you are user. Thanks in advance!
  4. Can anyone share with me their thoughts on lesson plans and/or daily schedules? Do you find that planning makes it easier to go about your day and get things accomplished or does it just add to your list of things to do and frustration? Do you make you own lesson plans? If not, could you suggest websites for lesson plan ideas? I have noticed that if you have the Homeschool Tracker Plus edition, then you can join their Yahoo group and have access to lots of lesson plans. I'm not sure I was going to shell out the $ for the Plus edition (thinking of trying out the free homeschool Skedtrack). I am trying to be pro-active and get prepared over the summer for the next school year ~ any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :001_smile:
  5. I am putting together my teacher binder for the year and would love to hear how others have divided up their binder. So far, I have one tab for each child, one for planning, one for reading lists, and one for our co-op. What am I missing? I'd love to hear how your binder is divided up! :)
  6. I have been a devout Homeschool Tracker Plus user for 5 years. And for 5 years, I have had a lot of textbook style curriculum which has made planning inside HST+ a cakewalk. Now I have grown more ecletic, classical, CM... I have a beautifully written instructors guide for Elemental Science Biology that I just bought last night (whoo hoo!). I have to plan out SOTW1 when the stuff starts arriving tomorrow (again, whoo hoo!). Math, spelling/dictation, R&S grammar, etc would continue to be easy to schedule through HST+. But transferring over Elemental Science and entering everything for SOTW1... yikes. And before I continue, I should mention my kids like receiving an assignment sheet on Monday morning to get an idea of what their week looks like, what has to be accomplished each day, etc. For better or worse, that is what we've done this past year. How do you guys plan your year, lessons, assignments, etc.? I am not overly concerned with grades... anymore. Lol. Yes, I'm letting go... a little. :) Ideas?
  7. I want something simple and very Charlotte Mason next year for my 1st and 4th grade kids for Science. I was wondering if anyone has used the Christian Liberty Press Nature Readers as a jumping off point for Science? If so, what did you do? Are there lesson plans somewhere? Did you visit places? Read additional books? Write reports? Watch videos? Do science activities? Make display boards? I would love some ideas!
  8. I thought I would share the lesson plans I created for SOTW in case someone could use it. The library book location in these lesson plans are from my local library, so you may have to change that. http://arkofcovington.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/SOTW_Lesson-Plans.pdf In case that link doesn't work, you can also find it on my blog: http://arkofcovington.com/wp/?p=1212
  9. Hi, I have found Baltimore city has a wonderful amount of lessons plans that are quite useful. Does anyone know if there are any other states or cities in the US that have similar lesson plans listed? Thanks heaps S
  10. My wife homeschools our 2 kids (12 and 14) following TWTM philosophy and curriculum plan. Now that our oldest is entering 9th grade, it seems that compiling the curriculum is the hardest ever and the time commitment required by my wife the most she's ever had to give. She is immersed in it and her understanding is light years ahead of mine, but I'm trying to support her more than ever. My primary concern is -- with most other curriculum packages, the homeschooling teacher receives lesson plans that outline "use this book and these pages on this day" and it's all very organized. But, with the classical TWTM approach, my wife has to create her own lesson plans and it's a tremendous amount of work. I see no other homeschooling mother in our church putting this much work into preparing the school year. I've asked her, "Why is it that so many people are involved in TWTM approach, but no one has created lesson plans for each grade that specifies exactly what to do each day, using which books and resources?" I understand that each teacher has options for texts and resources, but there are thousands of homeschoolers who have been doing this for years.
  11. What is your favorite resource for planning? Do you have a favorite planning book that you use? I think I would prefer something on paper vs. computer. I think part of the reason I don't like open and go curriculums is because they are "open and go". I don't know what is coming next unless I sit down and read through it myself before doing it with the children. Thus, partly defeating the "open and go" of it :). Does that make sense to anyone???
