  1. I see it differently. If a child is sitting in a chair before I am in the room, then I show my respect for him by not making him move. Likewise, I would be horrified if one of my kids (or dh) asked me to give up a seat. ETA: This is based on the fact that we have plenty of seating.
  2. Summer has been one unexpected thing after another. So far, we have loved FIAR. I am skipping around vol. 1-3 to choose books set in different countries. We have made a few simple lapbooks for some of the books, which has been good practice for cutting skills. I wish they were doing more handwriting and math games. My son is actually trying to swim, so we have made an effort to facilitate his interest.
  3. Instead of toiletries, I might look for a bottle of nail polish.
  4. Yes, dh (and formerly I) pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed about 2 months later.
  5. If you have concerns, I would have an evaluation done. At many places, children do not qualify for services based on the evaluation but the parents are given advice for how to work at home. In my child's case, her articulation problems were helped by therapy twice a week for a year and daily practice with me. The therapy wasn't scheduled until after the evaluation and isn't necessarily with the same therapist that did the initial eval.
  6. It would have been fine for my family. It really depends on a person's health, hydration and acclimation to climate. I intentionally build up exposure during to summer meaning when we had 90 degree days in May with high humidity we had shorter hikes but with this week of 90+ days we are very active outside.
  7. We went during free dining in Jan 2011. Our whole trip (4 airline tickets, travel insurance, 5 day park passes, nearly all the food, and value resort 4 nights) was $2100. It was an incredible value. I don't think we will ever find round trip air tickets for $150 a person again that definitely made this trip possible. We loved being onsite and using the Disney buses. The All-Star Movies value resort wasn't anything fancy- tiny rooms but we loved the decor. I think rooms were about $80 a night in our trip package last year. We did bring some snacks, big box of cereal and Disney souvenirs from home. If I could do it again, and we want to but it will be a few years, I would have liked a Park Hopper pass.
  8. I'd ask him to get it out of the trash or use his money toward it.
  9. Some titles we will skip. Some I got ILL or bought from Purple. House Press. For Giraffe that Walked to Paris, we read Zarafa.
  10. Elementary buses drop off between 4 and 4:30 here. We had a couple of practices that ran 5:30 to 6:30 so we just ate a bit late on those nights.
  11. We do one gift from family, but sometimes it will be a book and a toy wrapped together.
  12. Your dh should talk to a pediatrician and do some research. I remember feeling frustrated when my son was not potty-trained at 3.5 and it seemed like every other kid was by then. Well further questioning, most of the parents I know didn't count night-time in their definition of "potty-trained". I didn't realize the difference. We did just wait it out for my son and by 6 years 2 months, it finally happened. I would try to find a better fitting pull-up. We used cloth diapers by Snap-ez. Good luck.
  13. I have heard that Sevin is extremely toxic to bees and may be causing the colony collapse syndrome. I am so stressed trying to find a way to eliminate the chiggers that I am about to cry. Dh and I have dozens of bites. We don't enjoy our backyard anymore. I only let the kids outside if they take a bath after coming in.
  14. I have been about to write same op. We have tried cedar, sulfur and diamentaceous earth at different times. I am about to buy miticide or general pesticide but can't decide which one.
  15. Commonly done here and I'm glad. It is how many people who have warrants are found.
