  1. Suburban. Probably leaning more towards the Western Side versus the Spokane area, but we've not ruled it out. We like trees as opposed to the Tri-Cities are.
  2. It's looking like we'll be relocating late this year or early next year to Washington State. Where would you live. Dh's job will allow us to live anywhere. Washington State is our top choice, because we want to be near family but still have some distance (they're in Oregon and Montana). His only requirement is he needs to be able to commute to an airport every 4-6 weeks. We, of course, are looking for homeschool friendly (boys 9 and 11) but also near community college/university as we have 2 older boys, (16, 19). The older boys aren't over the top thrilled with leaving TX but they both enjoy the Pacific NW enough to want to go back permanently. So, where would you live?
  3. We are another family that went TT on grade level based on NanceXtoo's post earlier. We supplement with daily word problems and math drills. Thanks for sharing your experience with standardized testing.
  4. to help pay the cost? We are scheduled for his routine eye exam next week, but I made it with a Child Specialist Office that offers vision therapy.
  5. We love these too and have purchased several titles through Amazon's 4-for-3 promotion.
  6. I've been looking at the Sequential Spelling DVDs. I have no idea how they compare/work/etc. but I too dream of my son having something like TT but for Spelling. http://avko.org/ssdvd.html
  7. Feingol focuses on removing synthetic (artificial) colors and flavorings, preservatives (BHA, BHT, and TBHQ, artificial sweeteners, and salicylates. I was a skeptic of the natural occurring salicylates but we are seeing a huge difference in our son. We also are trying to limit gluten (for a different child) and HCFS. I think it is worth a try. Slowly we are removing those other foods that are not "real foods". My dh was not on board but he is now after seeing a huge difference.
  8. Guesthollow has American History broken into 2 years and it is free. I have SL D and planned on using it this year but ended up printing out Guesthollow and we use it instead. We don't do all the hands-on extra stuff but the reading is perfect. Many books are the same as SL.
  9. Thank you. I am thinking I might use this with our 5th grader once we start back in January. He has had zero writing (public school until 4th). They had him writing paragraphs but nothing really organized, etc. so those traits continue with our current program.
  10. Is this something that can be used stand-alone or do I need the full IEW-A?? I just looked at the samples for All Things Fun... and it looks great!
  11. My teen boys have told me the same of a couple of their friends, and I'm so glad to hear it is not just them. Apparently the writers/producers are the same as from some other series they enjoyed.
  12. Not IMO for level D. Paula's Archives had a lot of the same stuff listed for free.
  13. This thread is scaring me a bit. My dh is having surgery friday a.m., only after I insisted on a MRI 2 weeks ago. I'm seriously rethinking the plan to leave him alone at night at the hospital.
  14. We're using the History Pockets for Explorers right now. We added in Leif Erickson, Marco Polo, and a couple others. Scholastic has a Hands-On History book too that I bought during their dollar sale for Explorers that has been good additions to the above.
  15. My dh makes a long commute. He's on his second Hyundai. The first had great resell value. We've had no problems, great warranty, and good gas mileage.
  16. This is a great idea! I'd love to see pics. We use our board a lot too, but I think you could improvise and be fine.
  17. Count me in the camp that needed to read this. I've been preparing for our next week and keep wondering if my struggler would be better off in school. This post really encouraged me. thank you!
  18. Children's Place has great cargo pants with an elastic waistband. I don't know what we'll do when we outgrow those. We had size 7's, then 8's, and now 10's. In both the lighter summer fabric and heavier winter fabric. (Yea, he likes the same pants!)
  19. No, he does not. Farmer Boy would be overwhelming for him. His brother, just a year older read fluently at 6. Each child is so different.
  20. I'm late answering but we used the 1994 ones last year and I really liked them.
