  1. Our oldest 2 boys looking nothing alike. I've been asked. It is incredibly rude. Our 4th son is a mix of the older 2. When he is there, they all "match" but before he was old enough, yes, it did bother us if someone asked, especially in the presence of the boys. It is just bad manners. (medical excluded)
  2. We dread this festival every year. It shuts the traffic lights down in our town on weekends, every weekend Oct-Nov, and traffic is atrocious- as mentioned above. They use sheriffs and constables to direct traffic. That being said, we prefer the school days as well. It brings $$ into our town, I'm sure, but man, is it ever a pain trying to get home.
  3. We have some and all my boys love it. However, after it is played with a lot in one setting, it won't come out of the carpet :glare:. But... we still are fans.
  4. You walk into our house and into the dining room. I haven't officially changed it to the school room but since it is where we spend our days, I tried to hide all of it. Computer hutch with doors to close up for guests, book case with magazine holders turned around to hide the books, photo boxes that hold our supplies.
  5. I was glad to see this question as I wasn't sure we were using it correctly. Thanks for those that answered.
  6. Waiting on: The Witch of Blackbird Pond The Sign of the Beaver (pre-order for the new reissue version) Walk the Worlds Rim Under, Over, By The Clover, What is a Preposition by Brian Cleary And Torani Syrup for our Espresso
  7. Today, I rec'd a book I had been wishing for- just a few weeks- and was glad to see it come up. But, the version I rec'd is not the same ISBN#. It's in good condition. It is a Scholastic smaller version and the print is teeny tiny. It is one of our planned read-alouds. Would you ask for the credit back? It cost her 0.84 to mail so I have no problem mailing her book back if she'll give me my credit back. I read the FAQ but I"m not clear if she even has to give me my credit back.
  8. We're planning on starting D in August. We're only doing 4-day because we do Friday co-op. I'm not sure what 10 items you are talking about. Do you remember which week? Was it one of the optional activities? I ordered their D-kit because I do not want to be scrambling looking at the last minute for science. But, you also need items from the Non-consumable kit. I did not order the Non-consumables as we had most of them. I pulled out our IG, here is what the list says: clothespins magnifying glass masking tape paperclips straight pin.
  9. Did you look at Guesthollow's American History schedule? It looked like to me-briefly going over- that she had some great links to hands-on stuff that maybe you could pick and choose from.
  10. I share your enthusiasm but my kids don't. We're doing SL Core D this coming Fall too. I was so excited for box day. My boys weren't too thrilled, but they both love it when I read to them aloud. It's hot here and they're getting way too much TV and PC time right now but soon we'll be back to our "school hours" and the TV will be off during the day.
  11. These look great!! I think someone mentioned them once to use with Sonlight D instead of the Landmark book but then I forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder.
  12. I'm just trying to figure it out and definitely needing to learn to set a timer for 15 minutes! Here's Mine. http://pinterest.com/maeintx/
  13. This is a great tip, thank you. We're doing SL for the first time this year (only 2nd year having them home) and this makes perfect sense to simplify.
  14. Seconding the Allure vinyl plank flooring from Home Depot. We love it too. We did our game room and kitchen, bathroom, and an office nook. Everyone thinks it is wood because it is not noisy like laminate.
  15. I do. You can PM me for specifics. I have been doing MT for 15 years. I make less now than I did when I started, but back then I was running to/from the doctor's office picking up tapes and delivering a product. Now, I just log on, work, and log off. So, while I make a bit less, I prefer the latter. I type for specialty doctors on the East Coast. The future is uncertain with Voice Recognition and Electronic Medical Records. Check with your college/school on the success rate of their students being placed in actual employment. Many are now calling it Medical Language Specialists because with the above, proofing can be part of the job rather than typing- though that is not true for me, personally. It is one of those catch 22 things as well. You need experience to get in, but how do you get the experience if you can't find a company to hire you. Though there may be several nationals that will at a lower pay ??? MTStars.com, MtJobs.com, and MTchat.com are good resources. (Can I post those here?)
  16. Home Depot sells a product made by Allure Flooring that is vinyl but looks like hardwood, quieter than laminate. We put it down ourselves so it's pretty easy. Only adhesive strips on the sides and ends. It looks great and we love it in our game room. You just score it with a utility knife to cut so no saws needed. I think if you buy what is in the store it is cheaper than the prices listed online.
  17. Our Lowe's has a two-story, red, barn-shaped storage shed in their display lot. Every time I drive past it, I think, that is what we need. Storage upstairs, school room downstairs. I just think it would be perfect!
  18. Oh so jealous. We're from Oregon too. Enjoy being back in the NW!! My experience coming from OR to TX schools is similar, in the K-1st grade area. It's all good for us now but it was such an adjustment on top of all the big adjustments of leaving an area we loved so much.
  19. I have a Levi. So I love it!!! The only thing is... apparently there is a pronunciation here of Levee ??? I had never even considered people would mispronounce his name, especially since we lived in the NW at the time he was born. Both our doctor's office and the pediatric dentist here in TX have told me they have patients who pronounce it Lev-ee but spell it the same.
  20. For Math we love Dad's Worksheets. I printed out their Spaceship Math Check-Off and we do the timed tests. Something my boys asked for and like. He seems to have a worksheet for EVERYTHING and if we ever need extra practice on a topic it's easy to print and free. Jan Brett has great printables too.
  21. We do not have an official school room either... I was inspired to take some pictures today and posted on my blog. (and yes, school is out for us so it is nice and tidy, I assure you, it will not look that nice during the day-to-day of the school year though my dh prefers it to be "nice" on the weekends since it is the first room you enter of our home.) http://enriched2008.blogspot.com/2011/07/our-school-area.html
  22. Unbelievable!! I did not watch this trial much but it was everywhere. I am shocked!
