  1. I think WTM is eating my responses... Anyway, I hate small talk too, but I've learned to be better at it (or just put up with it). What I hate is going to a party. Ugh. Nothing like standing in the corner feeling out of place to make me crawl into my shell even more.
  2. Today is my 500 cal. day (although I go closer to 1000). Can I resist that big bowl of candy sitting on my table? :drool5: :gnorsi: Please God, let a lot of children come trick-or-treating--- and SOON!!
  3. http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/ Always good for a laugh...although sometimes a little shocking.
  4. I was going to suggest the same thing. I get headaches from being in the sun and the brightness really bothers my eyes. Wearing sunglasses, even on cloudy days, makes a huge difference for me. I would get all your kids sunglasses. Just make sure they're dark ones and not those fashion sunglasses that people can wear inside too.
  5. I always wished I'd been a member of Anonymous 4. What a great job. I love singing in choir (choral, medieval, ancient music) and studying the history, plus a little travel would be awesome.
  6. We have a double sink and only use one of them. The other is just wasted space that needs cleaning (it gets dusty). I'd rather have counter space with a little shelf on top. I always need more storage in the bathroom.
  7. I dunno. I think she would be a great ambassador for plastic surgery (if she had it done) because, even though I liked her looks before, they did a great job. She looks beautiful and it looks natural. Joan Rivers was open about her surgery yes.. but IMHO, it looked dreadful. If these other women you mentioned have also gone under the knife, then they too would be great adverts too, because it doesn't look "done up"... they just look longer and/or different. It doesn't look like they've had plastic surgery. I'm not ashamed to say I've colored my hair. If someone actually asked me I'd tell them. The difference is that these women are not owning up to it when asked.
  8. let us know which one you tried and how it turned out. I've got to make dessert for a dinner tomorrow night and I'm thinking of doing pumpkin pie.
  9. we had a scandal along those lines (stealing from the "Widows and Orphan" till - yeah horrible) with the leader of our church and several others. This was more than just one pastor - it was *the* leader (Called Metropolitan, but like a Cardinal in Catholic parlance). Anyway, when they finally (and it did take too long) dealt with it... the Metropolitan was relieved of his duties and basically sent home to retire. He is only allowed to participate at *one* church and then only goes to church...not as a heirarch. Another priest was defrocked and he is a layman now. I cannot remember the details about how they were able to avoid jail. It was somewhat controversial since some people wanted their heads on a plate- but others wanted to show some mercy (within reason). That was money issues. If a priest was found to be dallying with the secretary (so to speak) he would probably be defrocked - or at the very least lose his parish and not be allowed to be a parish priest anymore (he may keep his priestly title, but would probably no longer be allowed to work in a parish setting). It would probably depend on his family situation and age, as the Church does try to be merciful too. If it were an unmarried priest he would probably be sent to the monastery and would live out his life there under the guidance of the Abbot. The goal in any of these situations would be that everyone involved would be reconciled to God, but the priest should not be put in a position of trust again.
  10. We have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-MC-CG902-Canister-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B003AM711G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1413986158&sr=8-3&keywords=panasonic+vacuum+cleaner and I like it. It got the attachements for doing carpets, hardwood, floors. etc. FWIW, one thing I did, because it's hard to take a reg. sized vacuum on the stairs, is I bought a hand-held for doing both sets of stairs: http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-EasyClean-Corded-Hand-Held-71B/dp/B0006HUYGM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1413986275&sr=8-2&keywords=small+vacuum+cleaner I don't have animals so I only do the stairs about 2x per month anyway. It's not that big of a deal to have a separate cleaners. My 13yr old is able to handle this on the stairs far better than a reg. sized vacuum.
  11. Sorry - I don't really have a positive story either. My mom had a temp colostomy bag too. Because of issues with her hands she was unable to care for it herself, so the fam. stepped in. Mostly my dad and sister. I helped when I went out to visit. They had trouble finding the right bag that would stay on (it was always leaking). The issue my mom struggled with was that it makes noises. Yes, all those noises (rumblings and gas, etc.) from your innards and well.. farting.. it's all coming out the bag. I don't know if that ever settled down... and it may have had a lot to do with the meds she was on to keep things "flowing". She already wasn't able to get out much, but this made it worse because she was pretty embarrassed.
  12. I was wondering the same thing. She looks so completely different. At least whoever did the work did a decent job... she doesn't look like a plastic surgery train-wreck...but it's still kind of sad she thought she needed to change her looks so drastically.
  13. I'm so sorry to hear this. :grouphug: prayers for everyone involved.
  14. I see the thread has descended into a bit of a "discussion" but I'm wondering if there is an update? What a horrible thing for everyone.
  15. I don't know how you guys do it. I would love to see more menus for your day to give me some ideas.
  16. it's okay...it was still funny the 2nd time around. I think she was suspicious right from the start. We asked her about her family and homeschooling and her reply was to ask which sub-forum was the busiest and how to post pictures. And then there was the bOOks photo.
  17. that is very sad. Poor thing... what a terrible thing to have to carry around.
  18. Someone from my weaving group shared this fascinating video from the Museum of London. "In the spirit of SherlockHolmes, we're thrilled to show you our new London Tweed. Discover the story of historic tweed in this short documentary, featuring Liberty London, Christys Hats, and Lovat Mill."
  19. I know he's made some controversial and offensive comments about women. I'm assuming it went downhill from there.
  20. I have a friend who is a hairdresser and she works from home. Otherwise, I would probably do it myself. It's very expensive around here.
