  1. You are in Hackintosh territory now.
  2. Fortunately, I don't either, but as it was mentioned in the other thread, it happened.
  3. And to elaborate an atheistic POV, I don't have an interest in making Christians disbelieve. I would think that if your faith is so strong that it would cause you to harm your children then I don't see how in the world it is considered rude or bashing to call that delusion.
  4. I hadn't seen that, but I just posted it to DH's wall. I guess smacking does work in some cases. With a Mac Mini, she'd either hurl it across the room or punch the monitor if her dock started retracting. The thing with my MIL is that we're not clear about her expectations on how the computer is supposed to work. She sees her grandkids get on and fly through things and sees it as easy, but calls dh to ask where a document she saved might be. Do you have Fry's Electronics up there? That's the only store here that I seem to get a bit confused in, but only when looking for SD cards or flash drives, things that can be and usually are in more than one section. They've got the biggest selection of anime and British comedies that I can see in person, plus great coffee, but it can be pretty confusing if you haven't been a half dozen times. There's still parts of that store I have yet to explore.
  5. Oh my MIL. We have currently on our table a ginormous Dell laptop. It's got to be 17 inches or so. Dh is trying to fix it. What my DH can ascertain while on the phone with his dad is that she got mad and smacked it because it wasn't doing what she needed it to do fast enough. He hasn't been able to fix it, though. None of his friends have been able to fix it, either. No way would I buy that woman a Mac  even if a Mac could withstand a smacking. We are going to install Linux to both of their computers, though (FIL bought her another innocent cheap laptop). That should help with the viruses at least. And that would hopefully end our twice-weekly troubleshooting phone calls. .
  6. I'm in the middle of this now. I wanted to experiment with different apps, but didn't want to waste input time. So, I decided to go with LibraryThing as a back-up (because of it's importing/exporting functions), but I'm messing around with aNobii. I haven't done a lot, but so far I like it.
  7. Here's the cheater's version. We love this thing. ETA: It's not free, but I still like to pass around it's awesomeness.
  8. We had a bizarre book thread on the Curriculum Board a while back. The Talisman and Black House were mentioned. We've not read them yet here, but that may help narrow it down for you.
  9. :iagree: DH and I use Ubuntu on our netbook. DD uses Ubuntu on hers, She has XP installed as well, but I don't even know the last time we booted it for anything. The home computer is a mac. I love our mac, but sometimes I like to fool around with the OS. When I had an old '99 powerbook, I was able to tinker quite a bit, but poor thing doesn't run very well anymore. DD's computer is on it's last leg, so I'm thinking of getting her a refurb macbook for 8th grade unless we decide to build one. DH does a lot of work on PC's when he's at work. They have 4 computers in their business center for guests to use. They are riddled with all sorts of things on a daily basis. He finally put in 2 older imacs and he's been given a break. The funny thing about Linux (and a misconception) is that you don't have to be technically minded to use it. DH doesn't want to tinker with anything when he gets home and the Ubuntu boots quickly and he can go straight on the web without any problems.
  10. I don't know if this will be helpful. I had a wedding to go to the beginning of April and a near panic attack looking for something that would work for me. I'm 5' and about a size 16-18. I saw this rack of $14.99 tunic tops, several styles, and colors. I bought this one. This model has to be at least 6 ft., because on me, this thing falls to the middle of my kneecaps. I wanted it a bit shorter, but it was fine. I wore it with a pair of black opaque tights and a slimming tank (to cover up my little fat nubbies between arm and boob,) I think it would work fine for pregnancy and you could use a ribbon to give it some definition. There were a few tunics there with a more gathered looking top, but I liked this one the best. ETA: I'm quite uh endowed, so this would probably fall about your kneecaps given our height difference and non-assuming-ness. Maybe even below that. I wanted something calf-level, but I was surprised that opaque tights looked nicer than a longer dress.
  11. The options are teaching my dd research skills. For this week and the next, her assignments include finding a photo of some place (I can't remember what place exactly) and write a paragraph on that. The next is analyzing two different historical essays and noting the difference of tone (lol, I think). Her last writing assignment is one that I changed. I remember it was supposed to be a 5 paragraph one, but I changed it from whatever it was to Henry VIII's most successful marriage because we are covering the Tudors right now. Sometimes I stick with the assignment as it's stated, or sometimes I have it about something that we are studying. I also notice dd looks through this book consistently, even on writing assignments that are separate.
  12. I don't know anything about MUS, but you could buy the Singapore CWP to do along with them. When my dd wanted to drop Singapore after 4B to do GP Maths, I added in CWP.
  13. Someone mentioned AI and Remember Me. Those are movies I won't watch again. Same with Children of Men and I am Sam. When The Shield was on TV, it was DH's favorite show, and I hated it. I would get stressed starting the day before because I wanted to know what happened, but I couldn't bear to watch it. I can't look at poor Michael Chiklis in anything without getting nauseated.
  14. You don't need the student book. We just read the book for about 15 minutes a day until we were done (about 3 weeks to a month; can't remember), then started the other books in the series.
  15. I don't see it as 'dignity'. At all. To dispose of his body quickly and quietly shows that we aren't glorifying his death. What does dragging out his death prove? It's not in our best interest to rile up his base. Or martyr him.
  16. I don't find it strange. They don't want to rile up a bunch of his followers.
  17. :blushing:  I must remember that word has more than one definition.
  18. If DH exclaimed "ejaculating", they would have given him more than a mental health day; he'd probably be on some list somewhere that prevents him from living near a school.
