  1. Discovering Science is from this thread. The first book in Discovering Science is Water for Life. I found experiments that used water as a focus. We did a few from here and here. Lab report models from here. There are many other sites for this. At this point the reports are quite small. Discovering Science is set up in a way that is truly integrated, so I go through a few chapters a week to see what we'll be doing and plan (google and youtube) accordingly. As for Labpaq, we're doing physics next year, so I'll look through their many physics options and try to decide on one. We'll be using CGPBooks and I also have a never ending book list to supplement. I've had this bookmarked for a while. :bigear:
  2. That was me years K-7. I make myself do it every week and put supplies on the grocery list. This year (because I've been so negligent with the coolness aspect of science; youtube is great for this), I mainly wanted dd to concentrate on simple experiments that she really understands (and is impressed by) and doing the lab reports. Next year, I'm starting with Physics and will definitely be getting a kit.
  3. We're only in 8th this year and just winging it mostly by the internet and stuff from around the house. Since we're doing integrated science this year, I just search by topic and put something together every week. I'm not certain what we're going to do for labs for next year. I'm leaning towards labpaqs, though, unless something new and exciting comes along.
  4. I really love the stuff at CGP Books. I get it from Book Depository. We're doing integrated for this year and have the KS3 Science Complete Revision and Practice Guide and separate workbook for review. We've enjoyed their stuff so much (we have quite a few books of different studies, and dd likes the format), that I plan to get their higher level sciences for the next few years. Most of the books have generous previews.
  5. You'd have to tear my droid from my cold, dead hands.
  6. I'm promiscuous when it comes to coffee. The only times I buy something I've bought before is when I'm in a hurry or not in the mood for something new (very rare). The ones I'd buy again: Caribou (a medium roast one, only with coupon) Cafe du Monde, Coffee Beanery (dark roast and another, can't remember, probably a house blend), Community Coffee (between roast, dark roast and Special roast). I'm going through the Lola Savannah roasts right now. For espresso, I usually get Cafe Bustelo. I like it more than Starbucks.
  7. OMG, I hate you a little bit. :tongue_smilie:
  8. It will be the best show you've ever seen. DH and I saw him in July and we still talk about it.
  9. We are beginning the 4th level this year (after we finish up a poetry unit). It is our 3rd year doing MCT. We are just as enamored with it as we were at the beginning.
  10. :iagree: I pre-ordered before Elevatorgate, but only because of Dave McKean. I'm still a bit torn. I really wish I could see inside it.
  11. I'm making enchiladas. I'm not sure about dessert yet. My mood definitely changed this morning.
  12. No wonder people are hating on this word! When I use the F-word it rarely has anything to do with sex. It's one of the most versatile words in the English language.
  13. I'm 5' in shoes and DH is 6'. I have one sister who is just slightly shorter than me. The only bad thing about this height is buying pants. I had one friend in high school that treated me pet-like, but at the time, I didn't associate it negatively with my size because I thought she was giant, so I figured she was just jealous :tongue_smilie:. At family reunions, I'm one of the taller females.
  14. Was your friend offended that your dd said "What the...", or was she trying to tell your dd what people may assume she means? It seems like if she were offended by the word she would have said "f-word" instead of the actual word. If this woman is your friend, she might have felt comfortable explaining this to your dd and felt that she could because of your friendship. And she was honest with you about it. I wouldn't have an issue with any of my friends explaining something like that to my dd if she had said something they thought should be addressed. Whether or not I agree with the assessment is beside the point. I'm always reluctant to give advice about stuff like this, but gosh, if I were in that woman's shoes, and I was trying to discourage my friend's dd from using that phrase or educating her on what other people thinks it means, I'd be mortified to be reprimanded later especially after I told her mother face to face what happened.
  15. Well. I just spent 5 minutes watching all the videos on the side. I found that a lot funnier than I should have.
  16. I never thought about it being a thyroid issue. I usually get carpal tunnel pretty bad when I'm pregnant, so I just thought it was related to that. Once I stopped nursing, the pain gradually went away. I blamed it on wrestling an infant/toddler and hefting the girls in and out of my top every few hours to nurse. At one point the pain was so bad I recall thinking that I knew exactly what kind of arthritis I was going to get when I'm older. My grandfather has it in his hands as well (but he's 87). My pain was pretty much as the OP described. The only time it bothers me now is when I'm rearranging bookshelves (the real kind), or cooking a really large meal.
  17. The vet actually mentioned Glucosamine today. He said you can put it on the dry food. I've also read a lot about cranberry today. People are swearing by it on various forums.
  18. DH is positively harassed in the morning when he brushes his teeth. Our female cat watches you take a shower so that she can jump in after you're done.
  19. We were warned that he is susceptible. At this point I don't think I'm interested in leaving the house again. :tongue_smilie: It's funny watching my 13 yo scoop the litter every few hours. The cats split a 6 oz. can in the morning and a 6 oz. can at night. They free feed dry all day, but he's the one that really eats it. She only nibbles occasionally. I may see if this is something he can transition to. I think we originally bought the dry because he was overly skinny when he was younger and I wanted him to be able to eat something all day. My female cat would be perfectly content with just wet. Thanks. That's two votes for Royal Canin S/O. He's 5. i don't know when cats are considered senior. I think we will go get a couple of cans of some different brands to try out. We were actually talking about this earlier today. I know my cousin's cats like their fountain.
  20. Our male cat came home today from the vet after having a major urinary blockage. They sell Hill's Prescription Diet food there, but we didn't buy it. I wanted to do some research first. I know that most brands sell urinary health products, but I don't know if one is superior or if they are basically the same. Just quick research shows that people are quite adamant about a particular food, but that food differs on who you ask. I also have a female cat and they've eaten together for the past 5 years, so I'd like a food that wouldn't harm her. They both eat dry and wet, so we'd be getting both, unless one or the other is fine. I really want to try and prevent another blockage. Any advice or recommendations?
  21. DD read it last year (can't remember if it was before or after she turned 12). She loved it
