  1. What if you deferred visiting till she is accepted? If she needs to audition, can she send CDs or DVDs of her performing?
  2. I ran this morning in a tank top and shorts. I just hope this doesn't mean we'll have a long hot summer. But I'm with you - I love this weather!
  3. Listen to Jann - she knows her stuff. One possibility is that he "grows into" his math ability. My dd had a math meltdown in 5th grade and we took a break from her regular math, I got those little "Key to" books and let her choose every day which one to tackle. By high school she was doing great in math.
  4. Well Texas IS a big state :) Depending on where you are, you might get more seasons than you think. Dallas has had at least 4 snowfalls this year, including 3-4 inches Christmas afternoon.
  5. I think you'll be fine regardless of which airport (Hobby is much smaller than IAH). Is your connection with the same airline as your initial flight? They tend to do a good job of holding flights (for a reasonable time) till everybody is onboard. You might check the airline's timetable online to see what flights would be available later than your scheduled connection, in case your first flight is delayed - it seems to me more flights are delayed these days whether from weather, mechanical problems, union issues....
  6. When I read TWTM it felt like coming home. I had done a "box" curriculum (though heavy literature-based), but I wanted more flexibility, I wanted to go deeper in high school, and I wanted a 4-year cycle. My dd and I have heard SWB speak many times. She's a wonderful speaker - gracious and doesn't take herself too seriously. We like her so much, we drove 4 hours to hear her last summer - and I retired from hs'ing a few years ago.
  7. This may not help you either, but I've found that men's shoes fit my feet better - they seem to be sturdier. I've been running in New Balance shoes for over 30 years. I also like that some of their shoes (not all) are made in the US.
  8. Get an inspection for any real estate transaction.
  9. Should have kept reading. :) That's a great plan - kudos to you!! :)
  10. She said an hour a day - she could break it up easily into 3 or 4 meals :)
  11. I finally read something that worked for me. In the TOP RIGHT of your screen, click on "View new content". When you're at that page, go to the TOP LEFT of the page, where it says "New content." Then click on "forums" and then under "content," click on "new since my last visit."
  12. Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and DIzzie Gillespie are all favorites here.
  13. Right before we moved to Melbourne, it was voted the most liveable city in the world. We quickly found out why :) We've been gone for 13 years so my info is dated - but we LOVED the Dandenongs and the Great Ocean Road. Definitely go see the penguins on Philip Island.
  14. I agree with everybody else - mail them! You'll get special attention since they won't be bunched up with the Christmas rush ;) I'm curious what kind of Aussie Christmas cards you found! When we lived in Melbourne all we could find were northern hemisphere ones (i.e. ones with snow ;))
  15. I agree with this; I think this is one place where having seen the musical/movie helps with understanding the book.
  16. Thank you! I love his voice. I sent it to College Girl, who would be majoring in French but now she's designing her own major.
  17. We had lots of visitors when we lived in London. We found they all wanted to do the same (expensive) things. We learned to give them a Tube map and wish them a good day :) I think you can decide how much time you'll spend with each guest. If you do live in Orlando as suggested by a pp, I doubt you will want to visit every tourist spot with your guests.
  18. The main reason is the jet stream. But it could also have to do with weather patterns, e.g., they are flying around a thunderstorm. Are you following her progress on Flight Aware? I love that site :)
  19. Oh I hope you get to hear Don Carson! College Girl and I heard him at the Gospel Coalition women's conference in June. He was wonderful. And the new church sounds encouraging.
  20. That's an exciting possibility, Heather! I would also contact the PCA's mission arm, MTW. They may know of some possibilities for you.
  21. :iagree: I loved those days as well. My dd and i still have "read to ourselves" time when she's home, and our Skype/email often involve "discussing" what each of us is currently reading...
  22. Well I'd rather have that than nothing! It worked fine till a few days ago. Love your user name BTW. She and Wimsey are two of my favorite people ;)
  23. Can somebody please tell me why this is happening? Thanks so much! :)
  24. The best one is the one your student will use :) I would take your student to a bricks and mortar store, find one of those comfy chairs, and load her up with several different books to peruse. We ended up with several books, the "blue book" put out by the College Board has actual questions used on previous tests. And Princeton Review seemed to be a good fit - not as challenging as Barrons but more user friendly.
