  1. Indeed - and it bears repeating... in fact it would be worth cross stitching it and hanging it on the wall....
  2. Are you on the hs2coll yahoo group? The daughter of a lady there is a junior at one of the schools. PM me and I'll send you her details.
  3. Just saw this - sounds like it worked out well! When we lived in the suburbs of London, we had friends visit on Christmas Day and then drove them back to their hotel that evening. It was SO eerie to see central London deserted - that's about the only time I felt comfortable driving there LOL. Glad you got a tour and I'm really amazed you found a grocery store open - we always planned to be without a grocery store both Christmas and Boxing Days ;)
  4. This is huge. I know you'll keep that letter forever. :grouphug:
  5. I read about a healthy high school senior who died last week of flu symptoms, I wonder whether it was the same person. He got sick and died while visiting relatives. So sad.
  6. Those are the things we want as well. :) Also brochures and maps of the local surroundings are helpful. And be sure to mention all your languages in your listing!
  7. When we have visited Scotland (generally in summer or early autumn) we appreciated having blackout curtains so we could sleep past 4:30 am ;) You might have a look around VRBO to see what amenities are common. We have rented from VRBO for over 10 years, both stateside and in Europe, and have never been disappointed.
  8. I don't think so - I meant to send you to the forums - if you go there and scroll down, there are discussions about every college in the UK, tips for applications, interviews, etc. As I said previously the "members" appear to be mainly UK students but you may find some helpful advice.
  9. I would recommend your ds contact some top chemistry grad programs and ask their advice.
  10. You might find this forum helpful though most of the students there are from the UK.
  11. We've been gone from Australia over 10 years but I still keep up with some of the sweet ladies on the ANZ Charlotte Mason group .
  12. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/moments-that-restored-our-faith-in-humanity-this-y Tissue alert.....
  13. I agree with the suggestion to get outside in the daylight; it will be more of a challenge as she'll be traveling in the shortest daylight time of the year. Also I have found that staying up till around 8pm new time helps me adjust.
  14. Thanks for the update - I'm so glad the visit went well! Glad your sense of humor is intact ;)
  15. We thought about it. But dd came home from study abroad with a nasty sinus infection and we just got home from traveling this week. Plus I read you needed to get in line at noon today to get a seat! So we'll go tomorrow, which is dd's 21st birthday so it will be a fun way to celebrate
  16. :iagree: Give him a big hug from his WTM aunties! We're cheering for BOTH of you. I think you have a fabulous plan!! Let us know how it goes. Prayers coming your way tomorrow!
  17. Just saw this and I think this is a great idea. You don't want to do the drive round trip? :driving: :smash:  Just kidding. We're in the DFW area and my dd goes to college in VA so I've done that drive more times than I care to count. It's a VERY long drive no matter which way you do it. I've crossed the Mississippi many times at both Baton Rouge and Memphis, and I think Memphis is more dramatic - maybe because you're also crossing a state line ;)
  18. Wow Lauren! That's pretty amazing. I'm curious how you found this thread after all this time. I notice this is your first post - so welcome to the WTM boards. :grouphug:
  19. That's really sad! Ironically my nearest B&N is right next door to a Container Store.
  20. Piano Guys (not sure why it's called that because it's actually one guy playing the cello!)
  21. I would definitely call and cancel the order. Sorry that happened! Thank you for posting this link! I read about it yesterday but totally forgot about it.
  22. I wouldn't donate them. Somebody might wear them as a disguise, to pretend to work for the hospital, and commit a crime. Or maybe I've just read too many murder mysteries :glare:
  23. Oh and I meant to add that I'm so proud of you AND him for looking forward to his future life!
  24. Of course :) :) :) :) :) :) I know you are so proud of your ds. Heck, I'm proud of him. What can we do to make the holidays cheerier for him? Can he accept any more books? Music? Let us know. :grouphug:
  25. Okay, I'll address your questions :) I don't really know what to say about his gap year - but I would think there will be some colleges that will find it intriguing that he read all those books during his incarceration :) Maybe it will be helpful if he goes and interviews on campus? St. Johns comes to mind, thinking about colleges with a lot of lit discussion. Keep us posted, okay? Hugs to both of you!!!
