  1. DD is using EG 3 and DG3. I hadn't heard about using the DG a year behind but she seems to be doing fine with it. We are using Winning With Writing and she likes it but I have no experience with upper levels. I had heard somewhere about not using EG every year and so we are going to go with GWG next year although I haven't decided on GWG 3 or GWG 4. I like EG because the idea of crossing out the prep phrases appeals to me.. I like GWG because learning to diagram appeals to me too. Both appeal to my daughter because, at her level, little writing is required.. lots of circling or underlining. In my TM, the answers are on the facing page and the tests are included. I think I got her the student workbook for around $10. Very worth it! HTH Lori
  2. Silas Timothy was what this baby would have been if she had been a boy=D We also have a Seth Thomas but I love Caleb, Micah & Luke too.

  4. Pretty sure I just saw it.. I think it was only like $15 ?? And all you would need then was the student book.. I'll try and go find it. Lori
  5. Mine is technically second grade age and states and capitals are done thanks to Audio Memory's States and Capitals songs. No plans to memorize the Presidents next year but maybe we would if I had a song that worked.. like the one from CC that a PP mentioned.
  6. I have no idea how much First Form is.. but any chance you could sell those books that you have and buy what you really want now?
  7. Just had mine done and my appt was at 1:10pm. I ate steak and a bowl of bran buds(high fiber) with blueberries for breakfast about 9:30 ish. Drank the stuff at 12:10pm and had blood drawn an hour later. Got a 134 and to do the three hour they say you have to get a 135 or higher. Had the three hour with both the others.. and you do have to fast. DD was fine. DS scored borderline with 2 out of 4 markers(the other 2 were fine). so they had me watch it and test myself for the rest of pregnancy just to be safe. She has not called this week to schedule the 3 -hour for this one.,., so I don't know if she's going to.. I'd rather not.. I still have my meter and strips so I think if I just test once in a while to make sure I'm okay.. we're just going to skip the three hour. Good luck!
  8. Our church(small community of olders, non-denom), is having Christmas morning church same time, same station. And NO Christmas Eve service:(. We will be attending another churches candlelight Christmas Eve service and be breakfasting with family and opening presents Christmas morning. I doubt there will be many in attnedance on Christmas morning.. Sunday or not. However, I must add that if we did not have little kids.. we would most likely go.. LOL
  9. My dd 8 is doing SSL this year(and maybe GSWL after the baby's born). I have LFC A and she loves the videos but it just seems to be a little to much/to dry. I'm looking at LL also. I spent hours yesterday pouring over old threads on Latin here but I'm still not sure.. lol Bumping for more replies and :bigear:
  10. I voted yes.. but not if it's stressing you out! Focus on the basics and get to it if you get to it.. I have a friend doing LFC A and she takes several weeks to get through a chapter.. Mine is doing SSL this year and will start LFC A next year. Even if they just watch the DVD(which even my almost 3 year old just loves!) or sings with the SSL cd in the car, it's getting into their brains.
  11. :iagree: AND :grouphug: Glad your dad is safe with you again.. but you need to cover all bases to keep HIM safe. BTW, IMHO, "judging" someone (in the bad sense) is when you condemn someone for something that may go against what you believe but you could be wrong. In this case, what she did is definitely and clearly illegal and she could do jail time. Clear case of right and wrong.. not your own personal opinion. Doesn't mean you don't love her and aren't sick inside that someone you love could do this to someone else you love. :crying: :grouphug:
  12. $350 off the rack.. alterations done by a friend. Entire wedding budget was $3000 not including my ring ($1300) or the honeymoon(3 nights within driving distance) spilit between my dh and I (except he paid for my ring and the honeymoon). Back in 1997. Fun to read everyone's story=D
  13. Car seats expire??? In my state it is "recommended" that you replace them after 5 years but unless they have been in a wreck it is not illegal to use them.
  14. You might see this thread for many links to free curriculum(including upper grades). (Don't let the easy grammar throw you.. I found this thread when searching for EG.. LOL) http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109114&highlight=easy+grammar You might also look on www.curriculumshare.com a website where folks list their uneeded curriculum free for shipping.. You can post wanteds there also... if you have something specific in mind... HTH & Good luck.. Lori edited to add http://www.khanacademy.org/ edited to add the obvious - full texts of Real Science 4 Kids online. http://www.gravitaspublications.com/middle-school-science-products - This is what you are looking for=D
  15. Hi, I don't know if you subscribe to the email from the Erskine family (Homeschool Freebie of the Day) but they have a lapbook bundle that is hard to beat. It is for the old radio Christmas series of The Cinnamon Bear and only $9 to download. You can listen/download to all 26 episodes for free here... http://homeschoolradioshows.com/ and here is the link to purchase the Cinnamon Bear companion bundle or whatever they call it.. lol http://www.wholesomechildhood.com/Companion/ Lapbook activities for every episode!
  16. I got to=D It was in a small storage room(the better to breathe in:) Must have been in the early 80's since my mom started homeschooling me in 7th grade in 86-87. And another lovely smell I remember... rubber cement! aahhh.
  17. EEEWWWWWWW! Complain.. Completely innappropriate!
  18. I think my dd was 5 the year she got a bb gun for Christmas. As with the other posters.. lots of rules and gun safety taught here and never used alone. I do agree that it depends on the child and the family.
  19. We use up our eggs in.. German Pancakes Quiche Deviled eggs Breakfast Burritos(google for a freezer recipe for these for quick breakfasts) Breakfast casserole(tater tots or hashbrowns in a 9x13, 1 lb of sausage cooked and crumbled on top, shredded cheese and then 12 eggs beaten with 1-2 cups milk and salt pepper and garlic powder, bake) Egg Foo Young (for breakfast or for dinner) Stuffed French Toast Casserole(Need 12 pieces of Texas Toast or other thick sliced bread, need big 9x13 pan. Put 6 slices of bread in, mix a brick and a half of cream cheese(12oz), 1/4 cup of butter and 1 cup powdered sugar into a filling and spread over bread, top with fruit of choice.. I use 1.5 cups of blueberries.. Top with remaining 6 slices of bread. Blend 12 eggs and 1.5 cups of milk and a little maple flavoring and pour over bread. lift up a little so mixture gets underneath and let sit until absorbed. then bake). Cook Ramen noodles under done and then scramble in a pan with 1 egg for each package. Google a recipe for Donburi (may be spelled domburi). Yumm! Egg Bundles - roll out refridgerated tube biscuits very thin and line muffin tins(the big ones are better). Add a small cube of cream cheese to the bottom, beat eggs with milk as for scrambled eggs and fill each biscuit well.. Leave room to top with bacon bits, shredded cheese, green onions or whatever you like. Bake - (eggs puff so don't overfill) French Toast Casserole, Egg Casserole, and egg bundles all freeze very well in individual portions. I also freeze plain french toast (uncooked) to be cooked up fresh at a later time. 1 egg, 2 tblsp milk, 1.5 tsp sugar, splash vanilla per piece of thicksliced Texas Toast bread. Let absorb and place on waxed paper on cookie sheet to freeze. Once frozen, place in a gallon sized ziploc and take out to cook as needed. This is a thick custard-y style french toast.

  22. Rading through the responses I think there is a def difference between a collector and a junkie.. lol There are certain curriculums that I "collect", such as BJU's Heritage Studies, that I love but have not actually used due to circumstances. However, I have consistently used SOTW up to this point and have no plans to not do SOTW for at least the next 2 years. And I all the Heritage Studies materials that I own (pieces of 1st-6th grade) have been picked up for free or very cheaply at Goodwill etc. That being said.. I love to research and talk about curriculum=D I do not necessarily need to own it.. with the exceptions of the ones I collect:D I consider myself a collector and not a junkie with a destructive habit..
  23. No worries there.. You might pull stuff at home and show no remorse but I can guarantee you the army won't put up with it and I'm betting he knows it.. If not.. he will..
