  1. :bigear: and a bump.. I was just going to ask that too.. Can we use just the under $10 Skillsbook alone for the early grades???
  2. :bigear: I'll not get it now either. Thank you! BTW I found the student book at Amazon for $15.61 with Free Super Saver Shipping! I barely see them that cheap(ahem.. I mean inexpensive.. lol) used! Woohoo!
  3. The kids in our co-op really enjoyed Little Man in the Map http://www.amazon.com/Little-Man-Map-Remember-States/dp/0978510046/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308866791&sr=8-1 but that is mostly to learn the states.. We are using the Complete book of Maps and Geography to supplement our World Geography and Culture program for next year. http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Maps-Geography/dp/1561895032/ref=sr_1_12?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308866874&sr=1-12 or I recently just found this website that may be helpful. It has a long list of books to supplement the different Sonlight cores. http://www.roadstoeverywhere.com/sonlight.htm
  4. Ahh, I don't know WHEN to schedule but ran across this thread forever ago that I bookmarked for our own SOTW2 experience next fall. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172474&highlight=books+for+SOTW Has a link to a huge list of books she used.. and this link has user submitted schedules linking SOTW 1,2,3,4 with other curriculums.. like TOG and MOH. http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/SOTWmenu.htm These may not help but at least they'll bump you to the top and maybe someone else will see it who can help you out=D Have a great day!
  5. I've had some luck with putting my fresh hardboiled eggs into the freezer for a short while before peeling. I think that it causes the insides to shrink away from the shell.. making them easier to peel. Not to long, of course, since you don't want to actually freeze them.
  6. :iagree: Our in-laws have cows so our dd7 has known about mating for some time. (She passed the stage where we could tell her they were "hugging" years ago.. LOL)
  7. :bigear: Looking for the same info for my dd. Hope you get replies!
  8. My DH works for a local bank in the commercial loan dept. No ties required.. just dress shirts and slacks. He'd probably quit if he had to wear one:lol:
  9. Just finished AS1 with my advanced(mentally not dextrally(is that a word?) 7 year old second grader and I totally agree that the crafts are better suited for an "older" child. In my dd case I would say that that age would be at least 10-12 before she would be able to do the crafts without significant help from me. I think you will be fine.
  10. I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering about this topic:lol:! Thanks for the list.!
  11. New Zealand! DH loved it there! I don't know much about the religious/homeschooling freedoms though. My dad is looking into South America. Several countries are very American friendly(English, etc) and it's very cheap to live.
  12. I also like Charlotte and think it would depend on the last name as to whether the first T in the last name got dropped or not. In the Alley-Tally example I can see that.. but Charlotte Thomas would be just fine I would think. Mostly because people recognize Thomas as a common last name. Our last name is odd and has to be spelled anyway.. lol so that never even crossed my mind when naming my children=D My vote is for Lydia Joyce T.. Maybe you should wait until she's here and see what name seems to fit her? A quick delivery to you and luck in finding a name everyone can agree on.
  13. We like XTB(eXplore The Bible) from http://www.thegoodbook.com/youth-and-children for our dd7. They have them for olders too..(I saw at least for 11-14's) and family devotions as well. What I like about the XTB is that is has the child uses their actual Bible not just a re-told story like some of the others. When I was looking for a Bible study for my dd, I read in one of the samples of a mainstream curriculum that.. Mary lived was in love with a man named Joseph and was engaged to marry him. She was in love with him??? Really?? She might not even have known him.. Anyway.. their interpretation of the Bible story convinced me to find one where she read from the Bible straight=D
  14. Quiche is our favorite way to use evaporated milk(well, and Butterscotch pie=). Like the recipe here.. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/carnation-quiche-lorraine/Detail.aspx except we use more eggs.. instead of 3, we use anywhere from 4-6 depending on the size. And this is our recipe for Butterscotch pie. 1/3 cup flour 1 cup packed brown sugar ¼ tsp. salt 3 egg yolks, beaten ¼ cup butter ½-1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 can evaporated milk, + enough milk to make 2 cups, scalded 1 baked 8 inch pie shell Combine flour, brown sugar, salt, egg yolks, butter and vanilla in saucepan; mix well. Mixture will be very thick. Turn on medium heat (4-5) and begin to heat. Gradually stir in milk. Cook until thickened stirring constantly. Pour into pie shell. Chill until serving time. Top with whipped cream. Enjoy!
  15. LOL That's EXACTLY what I was thinking on the matter!! Which is why I can't make up my mind.. I keep going back and forth and back and forth..
  16. Dear Hive, Please help me by offering your opinion of what you would do. DD7 just completed 1st-2nd grade year. Has done MUS Alpha and Beta(by video only, no workbooks). I own Gamma and Delta with workbooks(and they were given to me.. no $$ lost) but I really want to switch her to TT3 and stick with that for the long term. Can I justify the cost when I already own curriculum that works?? We would be switching to TT after completing Delta anyway. Any opinions welcome. Thanks!
  17. Thanks to whoever revived this old thread! I've been struggling with just this decision all day and now have several different options to look into. Thank you!! Lori
