  1. So this may not be terribly helpful but have you googled delayed vaccine schedules? I'm almost sure I have seen recommendations out there. Also, I know folks that request single vaccines(ie measles only) not MMR for less of a stress on their little systems. I'm sure they'd need to be ordered but they are available.
  2. Thanks for replying. I guess your notebooks are for copywork and narrations and things? I didn't see to many workbooks in your siggie.
  3. So my dd8 doesn't like dragging out the big thick books to do her couple of pages each day.. When you cut the spines off and file them in the folders by day... How do you deal when the pages don't co-operate? Such as.. The day or week's worth of pages to be done are done and there is the first page of next week on the back of the last of this week's pages?
  4. We have probably three or four of them(from Wal-mart).. The shelves bow a little but we have them stuffed FULL. And I'd be worried about tippage if you have any that tend to be climbers. For our house.. they work just fine and the price is right. Check out IKEA or the shorter ones. I really like the idea to staple the back on that a PP suggested. HTH
  5. Just started TT3 here with DD8(second grade) also currently using MUS Gamma. She likes TT but is a little irritated right now because it is so easy. Thanks to the PP who suggested just doing the quizzes until she reaches her level! She is going to thank you too!!! I plan on using it as a supplement to MUS at least through next year(MUS Delta and TT 4/5) along with probably Evan-Moor Daily Word problems or Critical Thinking Co.'s Mathematical Reasoning workbook (or both=). We also deal with state testing and I love MUS but it does NOT teach math the way the state tests test it!! HTH
  6. Glad he won't miss the trip! I missed the first week of classes, spring quarter, my second year of college and got better grades that quarter than the previous two!
  7. Our dd turned 8 in October and she has been to 2 sleep overs since then. 1 I was more comfortable with than the other as far as what she would be exposed too but it wasn't as bad as I thought it could have been=D I prefer her to have friends over here to sleep over. (Although, then I wonder... you don't really know me that well and you are letting your girl sleep over?? lol)
  8. :iagree:This is what I got too.. so bumping for any ideas you all have. Or for answers to the bolded. Thanks!
  9. My dd wants McKenna SSOOO bad! Along with every other girl on her team:D
  10. Yes, I kinda feel like an outsider in our hs'ing community still. It's hard to make friends.. Not because they're not nice or that I don't share their faith but mostly because I'm OLD! LOL Those who are my age and I'd like to be friends with are at a totally different place in their lives.. They have teenagers and h.s. curriculum and I have a second grader, a 3 yr old and one on the way.. Those with kids my kids' age are a decade younger and seem like in a totally different world. I'd love to go to coffee sometime:D ETA: And I'm with you that it's awkward to have a small family when all the hs'ers I know have 6+!
  11. Agreeing that this is wrong to be done as a way of putting persons down.. however I have to chuckle when I remember back to my school days when you tried to sit as far to the back of the bus as possible...to be cool! Surely this wasn't just in my hometown?
  12. Any reasons or no reason at all is valid! My BIL and SIL are choosing not to have kids and my dh and I almost chose the same(glad we didn't now.. and my in-laws are very glad as we have their only grandkids:D)..
  13. Currently we are doing it just like you (with Winter Promise Children Around the World).. but starting next year I am going to try the Evan-Moor Daily Geography Grade 3.. And if we like it we'll continue, if not we might try the Complete Book of Maps and Geography.. It covers all kinds of things I wouldn't think to mention on my own. Different kinds of maps for example(physical, political, topography, economic). Anyway, I also have Charlotte Mason's Elementary Geography put out by Queen's homeschool that I need to drag out and look at. I'm :bigear: for what other ideas are out there! Thanks for starting this thread!
  14. :hurray: Congratulations and Good for you! Hope your headache goes away soon!
  15. Ahhh, can't replace it with "Hill to die on" because that belittles the sacrifice of those brave souls who actually DID die on that hill.
  16. And for extra results for you. Of my 2 sibs and I, none of us married anyone we met in school. Of my dh's 2 sibs and him, only 1 married someone they had met in school.. And they had gone to school with the whole way through, actually, not H.S. sweethears though, reconnected on MySpace a couple years after graduation and .... does that count??.
  17. I've written out what I'd like to do for next year but several subjects still need nailing down.. well paring down anyway. You just can't buy it all. LOL That's not in the bidget, even buying used=D For dd8 - Third grade next year Math - MUS Delta, www.xtramath.org, (possible Mathmatical Reasoning wkbk from Critical Thinking Co. and/or borrowed TT4) History - SOTW 3 with AG, books from library Writing - WWE2(narration and discussion of concept), WWW3(composition) Grammar - GWG3 (? or 4) + Evan-Moor Daily Language Review 3 Spelling - Abeka 4 or SWS and V (but what level?) Latin - Argh! LfCA or Lively Latin? Help! Logic - Building Thinking Skills (I think) Geography - Evan-Moor Daily Geography 3 Science - RS4K Pre-level 1 Astronomy & Geology Handwriting - Evan-Moor Daily Handwriting Practice: Contemporary Cursive Reading - Sonlight book lists and any other booklists I can get my hands on. Art - Artistic Pursuits K-3 Book 2 (or 3? because it supposedly goes with the SOTW3 time period?) Music - Oak Meadow Intermediate Recorder, various and sundry composers Health/PE - Horizons or Abeka/Competitive gymnastics or martial arts (if she chooses to not do gymnastics anymore) Eager to read what others have planned so I can doubt myself and do more research=D
  18. My dd does almost all of her LA and Math by herself but she is a very strong reader. What we are using this year is in my siggy but next year we are going to go with GWG + Evan-Moor Daily Language Review instead of the EG + DG combo. We will continue with WWW and the narrations from WWE(discussing the writing point but not doing the actual copywork.). And may or may not switch to Soaring with Spelling And Vocab. My dd is a natural, visual speller and Abeka spelling is so advanced that I wouldn't know what level of SWS to choose. But I (and she) both LOVE the way WWW is laid out: 36 weeks, Days 1-5. She always knows just what and how much she is supposed to be doing. Plus I've heard smashing things about GWG.. We are currently doing MUS Gamma and I like the mastery and love Steve DEmme but we need more. She is required to take the state tests and MUS is not terribly preperatory for that. We will continue on to Delta next year but she'll be doing TT on the side(computer only) at least TT3 and TT4 since I was able to borrow, not buy them. I've been looking at Mathmatical Reasoning from Criical Thinking Co. too. Anyway, long story short.. GWG, WWW, SWS and TT are all very independent=D
  19. I love my in-laws! My dh and I have their only grandkids and spend most every Sunday hanging out at their house. My kids love it! And my mil and I go shopping together and whatnot.. She's great! I hope I can be like her "when I grow up" ..lol I mean, when I become a mil and g'ma=D
  20. IMHO, totally not worth paying $10,000 in interest to save $3,000 on the taxes. If you run those numbers.. you'll see what I mean. I agree with those who say if the remodel is very important(like pee smelling carpets, eeeww) to do that with part of the money. BUT... I really agree with those who say that the economy and job market is so uncertain that you should cover yourself by paying off the mortgage. This is a HUGE emotional stress off your mind. Speaking from personal experience. My husbands job has been up in the air for the last 2 years, starting out with a 99% chance that he would have been let go and miraculously he wasn't, and every month after that going.. will it be this month? (Recently it has stabalized and he's okay now as long as the business doesn't go under.) BUT I said that to say that, while I would have been sad that he had to go look for another job, because that is so hard in this economy, I WAS NOT worried about losing the house or putting food on the table because we havce no mortgage. HUGE, HUGE for my state of mind. =D My $ .02.. LOL Congratulations on such a wonderful Christmas present!! and I hope it continues for many years!
