  1. Our new city pool has 2-3 lifeguards on duty at all times and they really seem to do their jobs very well. Today there was a teen boy there with his 3 younger siblings, one about 10/11, another 4ish and a less than 2 yr. old. The two youngers had on life jackets, the 10/11 boy was VERY good at playing with the littles, oldest(15/16ish) sat in a chair and looked at his phone. The youngest wimpered and whined the whole hour we were there while mostly sitting on the steps. Just before closing, lots of noodles in the water and I hear the manager yell and a mom jump in, the littlest was face down in the water WITH her life jacket on! The lifeguards hadn't seen her(mostly due to all the pool noodles) and the older brother never left his chair. Just looked up. The 10/11 came to her where a mom had gotten her out and took care of her. It happens IN A FLASH, with all those adults around AND life jackets. . . . can you tell I'm a nervous nelly about water????:001_unsure:
  2. Cayenne pepper sprinkled on and around the garbage worked for us. My sister used it to keep her dog from digging in her flower beds.
  3. This was a problem for us in one neighborhood until I started watching for them and handing out bags for them to pick up the poop in. Did they like us? no, did I care? no.
  4. 2.5 acres here with our house but we also own 3 acres on a river about 15 miles from here.
  5. This is our take. Same with driving, just because you're 16 doesn't mean I'm going to hand you the keys to my $20k vehicle. You have to prove responsibility and maturity in most areas to be given the privilege of dating. Same goes for the person you'd like to go out with.
  6. This is us. . .don't know how anyone affords the premiums, especially if they want to eat or actually drive just now.
  7. For ALL of these reasons I 'borrowed' my wedding dress and gave it back to it's rightful owner. I never understood the purchasing, wearing a few hours then storing for a lifetime of a dress. :001_smile:
  8. This is my story! at 17 years. I just read a 20 yr. olds FB status: Wish I could find that highschool love feeling again. My response? that's not real, love is the dailyness(?) of life, loving even through 3 boys in diapers. I feel bad that she's has 3 boys, 2 different fathers that are both now out of the picture and she still hasn't realized that those fluttery feelings aren't what's going to get you through in a marriage.
  9. I think the sitter could have made it. If her mom was taking her to the mall early the next morning she would have been able to do it on so little(?) sleep. I also might mention to her that she took your $$$ for meeting the children leading you to believe she would follow up with sitting. I wouldn't use her. I realize I will get flamed for these thoughts but to me this is why good work ethics are dwindling away. as for your sis? would she come over and sit for you?;)
  10. OMW! That's what happened to us. My folks had some of my stuff in a barn (nice barn) and it was struck by lightening and burned to the ground. There are still times I'll be looking for something, can't find it and wonder if it was maybe in the barn? Glad your parents were safe. :D
  11. Somewhere in the link to where it was discussed before is a link saying that it is NOT true! Don't believe it until you've researched it.
  12. If you know he'll have a chance to go again(though I wouldn't tell him that), I'd leave him home with the clear understanding that it isn't even about the $$$. He lied and is a thief. Missing a day at DW seems small in comparison to juvenile detention.
  13. Do you have good insurance?? I wish I could say this never happens but unfortunately you need to cover yourself. . .
  14. My dh is taking some kids to Canada camping, some will stay here with me and go to a store(any store.) All are excited! Can you tell we've had our noses to the grindstone this last few months??? :001_smile:
  15. VERY nice! I envy your whole jar of pencils with erasers!:D
  16. I never saw men out of their cars but wow, what a show of respect. I think we've lost something by not being able to take this small amount of time and effort to show respect for others.:(
  17. I was raised in the south and pulled over no matter what. I'm in the north now and I still pull over, others? some do, some don't.
  18. I've been using coconut oil as a barrier. Added benefit is that it's an anti-fungal/bacterial also. Now that I've read this thread and realize the 'real' culprit, I may not need it.
