  1. LHFHG his a lot more in depth than LHTH. ;) There are some slight similarities but LHTH is a short and easy preschool program. LHFHG is meant for either K or 1st and is a complete curriculum including projects. LHTH is my least favorite HOD guide. I have used it twice and didn't finish it either time, and I love HOD.
  2. I do not combine my children. I prefer to teach them all at their individual levels. 😊 My oldest is very independent, so I only do a couple of subjects with him now.
  3. Happy Ash Wednesday to you! Some of our traditions are; We make a paper chain with a daily prayer request. It is a countdown of sorts as well. We also have a special wooden candle holder with 40 holes and we light a candle each night. Each year we pick a different gospel to read through. Last year we did Luke and I think we are doing Matthew this year. I usually pick a hymn a week to learn with the kids, and we let the kids pick a charity to make a donation to.
  4. We just sold and bought a home this fall so I understand. :svengo: So glad that the whole thing is over with.
  5. How about: Peter Pan Marry Poppins The Borrower's The Indian In the Cupboard
  6. Yes. I was born at home with a midwife in 1983.
  7. I really like PB's but the buyers get old. As well as the fake drama over unexpected repairs. I really just like seeing what they do to the homes. ;) The funny thing is all of my kids love watching it even my 5 year old. My dh came home and they were all on the couch glued to it. My dh was like they are so weird.
  8. We just moved a month ago, so I'm still trying to figure out what our bills are going to be like in the new house. Really hoping to set a basic budget soon. :)
  9. I put a slip of paper in each day of ours with different activities. When I'm making my list for the year I take a piece of paper and write 1-24 along the side of lined paper. First I find out when all of the local free or inexpensive events are in our community and write those in i.e. live nativities, parades, light displays, and Christmas Tree lighting. Next I write in any family or church events and then start filling in the other days with things like baking, crafts, games, movies, charity(we usually do some kind of angel tree gift or something.) etc. Some other ideas we usually do; driving around and looking at lights, St. Nicholas Day, new Christmas movie, taking the kids shopping for each other(they draw a name.), special hot cocoa night( with peeps, whip cream, candy canes, etc.), make paper snowflakes, and buying gloves and socks for a local shelter. Have fun! I need to make my list for this year actually. We are still waiting to move.
  10. My favorites: Scrooge with Albert Finney. Miracle On 34th Street It's a Wonderful Life Muppet's Christmas Carol Were No Angels Elf The Nativity Story How the Grinch Stole Christmas(original cartoon) Christmas In Connecticut The Ultimate Gift Polar Express The Santa Clause White Christmas Veggie Tales St. Nicholas Mickey's Christmas Carol Small One Charlie Brown Christmas Ernest Saves Christmas We watch all of these with the whole family. Oh and I also like watching cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies.
  11. We love turkey here! I have three in my freezer. One my dh got from his work for free, one I paid about 69cents a pound with a 50 dollar purchase, and one I bought today for 49cents a pound with a 100 dollar purchase. All of these are name brand and MSG/Gluten Free. We are in Oregon.
  12. My Dh wears a size 16-17 and usually finds his shoes at ROSS.
  13. :iagree: Bob's tastes like beans. The type Costco sells tastes good to me. My friend uses this recipe from Land O Lakes for her GF flour: Gluten-Free Flour Blend: Combine 2 cups rice flour, 2/3 cup potato starch, 1/3 cup tapioca flour and 1 teaspoon xanthan gum. Use appropriate amount for recipe; store remainder in container with tight-fitting lid. Stir before using. This recipe was developed using alternative flours and products labeled as “gluten-free.†The best source for additional information is the ingredient listing on product packaging. 14. We leave our porch light on at night. Too many things stolen off of our porch over the years. The light is one of those energy efficient lights and not very bright. It doesn't shine into our bedrooms.
  15. My dh started Christmas music on November 1st. He is a Christmas nut though. Lol
  16. How old are your kids? Search for Ken Burns on Netflix. He has some excellent documentaries on US History for older kids and adults.
  17. We do an Advent wreath following the traditional advent schedule. This includes daily candle lighting, nightly devotional, prayer, and some carol singing. We have used several different resources. Last year we used this little book and it was my favorite so far. We also have a wooden Advent calendar that my dh made. It has little pull out boxes for each day starting with the 1st-24th. Each day I put in candies and a piece of paper with a nightly activity written on it. The activities are a mish-mash of crafts, games, community events, church events, charity, family fun/traditions, etc. I change it up a bit yearly but many of them are the same from year to year. I also like to move around our Nativity seen throughout the month. Starting with Mary and the Angel. I generally change the scene on Satuday night when the kids are in bed. I also keep Jesus hidden until I put him out at the same time as gifts Christmas Eve night when the kids are in Bed. The Wise Men travel all over our house for the 12 days of Christmas ending up at the manger on Epiphany. Yes we are big Christmas fans here and we celebrate all the way until January 6th. I seem to add in new traditions yearly. My dh loves Christmas so he doesn't complain. We also do St. Nicholas Day. I have the kids put out their shoes the night before and I put treats and a golden dollar coin in them. My kids know Santa is pretend and we learn about St. Nicholas. We do allow Santa movies but he is just a fantasy character around here. I need to figure out what we are doing this year soon, but we are hopefully moving next week so it will have to wait a bit. We attended a Calvary Chapel until last fall and now attend a Christian Missionary Alliance church. I was really excited last Christmas that our new church actually does an Advent wreath and readings/teachings. Our old church did not acknowledge Advent or Lent. We did not do either growing up but they have become very important to me the last several years.
  18. I voted a couple weeks ago. We have mail in ballots and I filled mine out the day I received them in the mail. We are in the middle of selling our home so I didn't want to forget or lose them.
  19. We are doing that right now. I will let you know how it turns out next week. Both houses are supposed to close on Monday but still waiting on the loan approval for the house we are selling. It is very stressful for me because I have no experience with these things. The house we are selling is the only house we have lived in. We bought it right before our wedding. I might be looney before next Monday. :smash:
  20. I will try to answer a few of your questions. I own and have used all of the HOD guides from Little Hands- Res to Ref(My oldest is on unit 7 or 8 right now.). A few of them more than once. I'm happy to answer any questions about those guides. :) My oldest is very independent with HOD. I only do a couple of boxes with him per day. If your kids are not use to the level of independence you will need to train them into it. In other words don't just plop a guide down in front of them and expect them to be fully independent. HOD does a nice job of gradually building independence starting with Preparing Hearts. If you are jumping into a higher guide, it is ok to take a few weeks and teach them how to use the boxes. Does that make sense?
  21. So far none of mine have done that but I could see it happening. ;)
  22. That would be Little Hands to Heaven. Little Hearts For His Glory is HOD's K/1st grade program. ;)
  23. My ds read it last year when he was 10 and he loved it. :)
  24. We have a 2005 Kia Sedona. We have had it for 5 years and it has been a great van for us. So far repairs have been basic and routine maintenance.
