  2. For books about CM my two favorite are A Charlotte Mason Companion and When Children Love To Learn. The first leans more toward the flowery/Victorian and the second moves it more toward the modern educator. I think both interpretations are helpful. If you want to know straight from Charlotte the 1st and 6th volume would be the most helpful. :)
  3. I have seen the newer one from the 90's before. I was just wondering if there was one closer to the book.
  4. Is this the one you mean? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090474/ I'm reading A Little Princess to my dd right now and would like to find a nice version for her to watch after. :)
  5. I think she must have meant Little Princess. ;)
  6. A few ideas with links to the movie version I like: Peter Pan (My daughter is a huge Peter Pan fan and she says this one is the most like the book) Little House On the Prairie Anne of Green Gables Black Beauty Secret Garden Little Princess (although I wish there was a version that ended like the book) The Indian in the Cupboard (there were a few parts I didn't appreciate in the movie version) Holes (I have not read the book so I can not say if it is like it.) Charlotte's Web The Borrowers this or this. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn I Am David (I haven't read this book but the movie was good.) Pippi Longstocking Winnie the Pooh Beatrix Potter stories
  7. We have one more week left still but we are all ready for summer! I picked out a stack of books for my kids to read this summer and they were actually excited about my selections yesterday. Enjoy your summer break. :)
  8. People's definitions of reading vary as well. I have known people that said their kids could read when they could sound out 3 letter words with help. If it makes you feel any better my almost 6.5 year old dd is reading Bob books right now. She just started the second box from Costco and I have been working on Phonics with her for over a year. Just in the last couple weeks she has actually started to want to read and that was because my 4 year old picked up the first box of Bob books and read 5 in a row. This was a shock to me as well since I have not even tried to teach him phonics yet. There is a wide range for normal when it comes to learning to read.
  9. I got all of them correct except one. Sorry Tony Blair. I do know who he is I just couldn't place that picture in my mind. Hehe
  10. I appreciate when people share stories about personal experiences with what works for them, but I can not take them seriously once I find out they are selling said product.
  11. Hehe, yes you must have the same friends. I eat gluten free and use coconut oil sometimes but I still have occasional health problems what gives. You must have to do all three plus the EO to get the full affect. I absolutely hate it when people use friendship to try and sell me something.:P
  12. I'm just tired of Facebok friends advertising and trying to push their essential oil products. It is amazing that the brand they use and sell is the only type that really works. It has become a running joke between my Dh and I. Every time someone is sick or has a pain. "Rub some EO on that."Lol No we have never actually used any EO products. ;)
  13. For my kids around that age we start written narrations and more daily independent work. ;)
  14. What standards are we talking about. How can he really be "behind" when most states do not even require K? I honestly do not have a clue what level of reading is standard for the end of K and I highly doubt any of my kids would have reached it. Lol With my oldest I stressed out and pushed him with reading in K to no avail. I relaxed a bit with my second for K reading and they both ended up taking off with their reading near the end of first. My 3rd is about to finish K and I was even more relaxed with her and believe it or not no matter how hard I pushed with K reading they have all ended the year at about the same reading level. I have no doubt by the end of first she will be reading as well as they did. If it encourages you any my oldest read The Hobbit this year for 5th grade. All that to say just keep plugging along he will get there. I would just have him read to you a few minutes a day over the summer and continue to read aloud to him. You can pick back up with your work in the fall. ;)
  15. Thanks Hunter. I don't know exactly how much she has to work with but I know that they have a smallish income and she hadn't planned ahead for buying curriculum. I'm sure we can find something that will work. I just really want to help her get started with something that will work for them. ;) Math is always the hardest for me to recommend to others. It was hard enough for me to find what I like. Lol
  16. I don't have the TM for R&S 2 English. I do use it for 3 and up. ;)
  17. Hunter do you have any other suggestions for math curriculum that is fairly straight forward and that I could help her find that isn't too expensive?
  18. Yeah I don't think so either she just wanted to know what I use. ;)
  19. Thanks Hunter. I honestly have no clue what level of math he is at. I sent her a link for a Saxon Placement test and also the Singapore Primary Math US placement test. I was thinking if she did both then we could get an idea of where he is at so I can give her some recommendations. :)
  20. The Secret Garden Little Princess Peter Pan The Hobbit Little House Series Narnia All of a Kind Family Esperanza Rising Marry Poppins The Railway Children Snow Treasure Alice in Wonderland King of the Wind Baby Island By the Great Horn Spoon Emily's Runaway Imagination Little Pilgrim's Progress The Toothpaste Millionaire Naya Nuki The Castle Corona The Borrowers Sign of the Beaver Number the Stars Black Beauty
  21. Thanks. Yes I'm going to send her a link to the placement test. Right now I am just trying to come up with a few options that she can afford. Do you think the older Saxon editions would work ok for then. I saw some on eBay for fairly inexpensive prices.
  22. I'm trying to help my sister in-law out with starting to home school her son this fall. She has limited funds and doesn't know anything about homeschooling or curriculum. I was thinking perhaps that Saxon math might work for her ds. He will be going into 6th grade and has always gone to PS. Anyways my question was do the older editions of Saxon math have any answers/solutions in the back of the textbooks or do you need a TM? Also is Saxon 7/6 the one for 6th grade? TIA
  23. If you are not opposed to religious content take a look at R&S English and spelling. R&S is inexpensive, easy to use, and very thorough. Your children are still young. I'm sure they are not permanently damaged. Lol
  24. We do the majority of R&S 2 orally. I do have my kids write some of it but certainly not everything in the lesson. I'm about to finish up teaching that level for the second time and we haven't had any problem doing it this way. :)
  25. Our experience has been similar. We have only run into a couple of medicines that weren't covered. Everything else has been covered completely including doctors visit, lab work, etc.
