  1. Does Halloween candy make water hot? or just get you into hot water?
  2. For our enrichment program (which is funded by the county and thus a "public school") -- I am on the parent oversight committee and I see the finances (which anyone can see-- I just get a printed out folder and a meeting four times a year) so when there was fundraiser last week-- I was sort of :confused1: . For what ?? I didn't know we needed money for anything. We voted to cancel the fundraiser-- mostly because it was not sanctioned and was being run by one mom. Now we do--- because we are planning some cool activities-- like outdoor lab.
  3. yeah my cat door is from the house to the garage-- I don't like the smell and mess of the litterbox and it used to keep the other dog out of the garage. Finley goes in there,-- mostly to look around (but sometimes.....) another one for the "only at my house" files This summer my daughter caught a lizard and put it into a smallish fish tank with a 13yo designed mesh lid (with a cut out for her hand) I looked over and found our cat smushed into the tank, unable to move trying to catch the lizard. she had crawled though the "hand gap" to get to the lizard, then found she didn't have room to move, more else catch the poor thing.
  4. We make German pancakes for breakfast (basically eggs and flour baked until fluffy in a cast iron pan) http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/GermanPancake.htm and I serve it with raspberry sauce instead of maple syrup.
  5. As a child of a borderline personality mother, I have leaned so much about how real people interact. The right things to say in certain situations. After YEARS of being a conversation stopper because I didn't know I was saying the wrong thing, I can now have decent conversations IRL.
  6. Tell me about it!! This morning he got out into the front yard when the children left for school --- I don't usually like him outside when they walk to school since he goes nuts and tries to go with them and I don't want him to challenge his shock collar. So he is outside and I get him back up to the front porch--- I let go of his collar to open the door (i have the stairs blocked by my body--- he stuffs himself through the railing of the wooden porch!!! He sort of had to turn his hips in the end-- but he got through. I was too stunned to be mad. And yes, the cat door is too small for one of my overweight cats-- but the skinny VLD can go in and out at will (I keep the litterbox in the garage so I don't want him in there)
  7. The toy rat left on the stairway to scare the VERY large dog. The packing tape on the cat door to (hopefully) allow the cat in and out but keep the Very Large Dog from going through it.
  8. They are a dieing breed. Like a lot small mom and pop businesses. You can still find them and there are more in certain parts of the country.
  9. I feel your pain!! I have a 13yog and 12yog I say frequently: "God save me from preteen girls!! Mine snip and snipe at each other until I go nuts! Marriage hmmmm sounds like a good idea.
  10. I think I was a closet homeschooler when my children small. I got in trouble for pulling them out too much to take them to museums. The school threatened to not let them pass to the next grade (first grade) because they had missed too much school? Really? You will hold back a child at the top of her class (as told by the teacher) because they missed 5 days to go to museums? sigh I really like this enrichment program---the children make friends and the district pays for my curriculum, and I get a day off (plus it counts for 1/2 of the required hours for the year--- I go way over anyway-- but still!!) One of the unseen advantages of the program is just enough of a taste of the PS BS to remind me how much I hated it!
  11. My children are in a public school enrichment program one day a week (today). I really like this school. I have a good school district and I didn't pull my children for education reasons. But I really hated the BS of public school. Websites (when I didn't have a computer at the time) for all communication---- and all the sales of things (yearbooks for first graders???--- popcorn money for Fridays and school spirit shirts?) Today is picture day (I found out today--) It was probably on the website yesterday but still-- no time to get their hair cut. I don't purchase a package so I don't get too uptight about this but I try to make sure they are in a nice shirt for the class picture (and last year they made really nice ID cards and children looked horrible because I didn't know it was picture day). Then, once I put them in nice shirts-- I am told (by the children) today they are PAINTING IN ART!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRGGGGG. Lara
  12. So---which diet did you choose? Low fat? high fat- low carb? -- blah blah blah details!!
  13. We are a family of six and I have a central laundry hamper, segregated by color and type of load. (it is actually a dresser drawer cabinet with 5 drawers) Everyone uses the same hamper. A full drawer is a load. Sometimes that means one load a day, sometimes that means two or more. Will do lots of laundry on sunny days so I can save money using my line.
  14. Like this one? http://www.target.com/p/nesco-18qt-porcelain-cookwell-roaster-ivory/-/A-13036837#prodSlot=medium_1_16
  15. It was interesting. I often wonder if I would be happier living there.
  16. I grew up with a mother that made ALL gifts have strings attached (not saying this the case here at all) so.... for me receiving help or gifts was a very difficult thing. I always felt I had to "return" the favor or "pay" that person back. I have this amazing neighbor who would try to help me-- she would invite me for dinner when she saw me mowing the lawn at 6pm with 4 little ones knowing I was super tired and still had to feed the children-- I would never accept---because I felt I had to go inside and bake a cake or something-- it was easier to make mac & cheese. One day she looked at me with a hurt look (almost in tears) --- and said: "why won't you let me love you?" I learned that she did love me and I started to look at her help in a much different light.
  17. Well, at MY wedding my mother, who hated my wedding idea and gave me grief about for months before, realized that my guests were loving it and became the "belle of the ball" and began the process of making my wedding all about her..... whatever. I think my grandfather was NPD (I didn't know him well) from some stories I have heard-- perhaps that is where she comes from. I am damaged-- not as bad as I could have been --- and I really don't want to damage my children. I did come to the realization that between my apathetic father and BPD mother-- no one has ever really loved me-- until DH and he has always been a lifesaver.
  18. How are these people made? How can I avoid making more (i.e. my children)?
  19. I have the original VHS Look at Goodwill stores
  20. My mother has Borderline personality disorder--- the personalities she borderlines are narcissism and manic/depressive. To research BPD there is a book called Surviving a Borderline parent. It helped me a lot and they have lots of examples of things other children have experienced so I say "hey that's my childhood!!" plus ways to reclaim your life.
  21. I long and very sincere thank you letter with a restaurant card included for a very well deserved treat.
  22. the worst:-- laffy taffy (esp banana flavor) and the little packages of milk duds always taste "off" like they absorbed the flavors of other things
  23. When DD13 had her surgery last year I REALLY discussed this with the Dr. We had a plan worked out. Talk to your Dr and the Anethesiologist-- the hours are guidlines for most people get the REAL numbers for food restrictions-- solid vs milk vs broth. I also had them give DD an IV with glucose once we got to the hospital.
