  1. My kitchen is tiny and we all seem to mush in there most times, but if I am cooking furiously (quickly or for an event and doing several things at once) everyone knows it is MY kitchen they had better stay clear (even the cat gets stepped on until he learns to stay away). Unfortunately, the door to the back yard and the laundry room is through the kitchen **sigh*** if only I had the money------------------
  2. As a last resort I would do this after other things fail--- use a VERY FINE sandpaper cut into a size about the size of your finger tip and lightly sand the spot until removed, then repair with varnish. The ink should be just in the varnish and not the wood/stain.
  3. I was always told that most mammals lose the enzyme to process milk once they are weaned and that giving milk to cats and dogs (especially if you haven't done it since birth) will cause them to have cramps and loose stool.
  4. This would be why I got rid of landline telephone service 8 years ago. They don't seem to eat the cable line, just the phone line. We had so many squirrels for a while that I was tempted to name our house "Tree Rat Ranch"
  5. I seems to me to be an appositive phrase My dog, for example, likes to eat grass.
  6. Another thing----- As a person who constantly puts themselves down --- I know that it really bothers my children and my spouse--- so perhaps you can "demonstrate" how bad it sounds by example...
  7. I tell mine that they can do a stupid thing or hate what they did--- but they themselves are not stupid, nor do they need to hate themselves for the things that they do. Put the disfavor on the action, not the person.
  8. sweet tarts have dye-- but I would assume less than most things............
  9. if the ink is from a ball point pen-- then rubbibg alcohol will usually work--- if from a felt tip or other type--- I don't think anything will work-- perhaps bleach if the clothes are white sorry!!
  10. I slice them up and serve them with sauerkraut. I also serve them cold (cooked) with apples, cheese and crusty french bread-- a great afternoon snack.
  11. I barfed every time I brushed my teeth pretty much from conception to birth--- that's how I knew I was pregnant---it did indeed start before a positive test.
  12. Someone else may have started it first, but your link gave more information about what happened.
  13. Yeah, I do--especially if that rule make it so that people cannot be heard. But what I was saying is that we are ingrained to obey rules, to think they are good for us. Not always true and a rule isn't a law even in a public area. I want people to think about is: what they obey just because they are told to and they feel they should. Not every rule is right, not every law is Constitutional. Only by thinking CRITICALLY and knowing our rights will we be able to know when our rights are being trampled on.
  14. Just because they make the "rule" about only written questions-- doesn't make the rule right or even legal. Remember: a rule is not a law.
  15. His main barking times are first thing in the morning and last thing at night. That is his "discussion" time. This morning I leash walked him in the yard and then I fed him at 10-- let him go and he did his thing and we played ball (I have HUGE jolly ball that he basically chases up and down the hill that is our front yard). I did that for about 10 minutes and then we came inside. An hour later I let him out in the back yard and her barked some-- but not that much. He has gotten much better at barking as her learns what is a danger-- yesterday a fir engine went through the area and every dog barked but mine. He never barks at DH coming home in the middle of the night, but if it is a "new" thing (someone else in the night that is loud and talking ) he will bark. Mostly the neighbor is bothered by the night time "discussion" and any thing that wakes him up. Well-- I won't stop the dog from being protective at night-- but I do want him to stop when I say stop-- so I will do the training for the "quiet" command. I am researching toys that hide food and other things to occupy his mind. Thank you for your help-- I may have to have more help later on--- we shall see how this goes for now.
  16. Friend of mine has the Kindle Fire and her 4yo uses it and it has held up for at least 1.5 years.
  17. Why would even have security there unless you suspected people would be upset?
  18. Our govt is NOT run by the people anymore (not that it ever really has been). I suspect there will be a growth of homeschooling across the nation-- and I don't know how that will turn out.

    Hi

    Hello, and welcome
  20. Mostly he obeys commands in the house-- (go to place, lay down, NO!) Outside he will run away if he doesn't want to come inside-- don't know how to fix that--I guess I will work on that next! He really doesn't bark if we are with him-- not at other dogs too much, some. In his morning discussion, I try to interrupt by knocking on the window, then we go and get him. He is a talker--- he talks back to me a lot in the house-- Bark-- No, go to place Bark No, lie down (then I stare him down and say nothing) mwrrr thump!! (dog laying down like a pouty teenager)
  21. He sits on a hill in the backyard and barks in the morning --- basically tells anything out there that he is back on duty. He barks at night and tells everything that they better be good 'cause he'll be back in the morning. I don't have any peppermint tea. I ate a banana --- does terrible things for my blood sugar but ---- oh well. I just get to sit on pins and needles for a few days to see if I get a visit from the county.-- oh and figure out how to get the *%&^ dog to shut up when I tell him to.
  22. The funny thing is that I haven't had any problems with raccoons since we got Finley--- the complaining neighbor has them sitting on his roof and pooping all the time-- getting into his trash--etc..... (probably what the dog is freaked out about) I saw him last week with four traps in his yard.
  23. I have been doing some online research--- basically I should get him to bark on command so I can teach him a command to not bark. I cannot really take him for walks--- he jumps the fence and we put an invisible fence around the yard and now he won't leave the yard-- even when I tell him it's ok. Well I might be able to get him in the car and cross the barrior, then go for a walk--- grrr We will step up the playing ball and such. For now I am making a walking schedule for evenings and mornings (on a leash in the yard) and feeding him later in the morning and earlier in the evening so he won't have to poo at his bad barking times--- this is just while we are trying to train him to bark/not bark. I did look up my county dog laws and we are in compliance -- so if we get a visit, we are at least legal. **sigh** its always something. I have a stomach ache and my dinner sits uneaten................
  24. Ignore my pm,-- I jumped the gun when I saw your "like"
  25. I have a LGB (Akbash/pyr) he barks a lot and very loudly. We are home most of the time and when we are gone he is in a kennel in the basement. He likes to bark--- just to hear himself bark I think. I have had the same neighbor complain a few times. I told the neighbor I wouldn't let the dog out past 10 (and I don't let him out past 9 pm or before 8am) Early mornings and evenings are his worst time. After the first talk with neighbor we had a issue with the dog barking at 11:30 pm in the house, barking for about 5-10 minutes at something in the front yard--- I got up and dealt with the dog and turned on the lights and talked to him-- he continued to bark even though I told him to stop--- when the people outside left, he stopped. Tonight I let him out to pee and he started up-- I let him bark for about 10 minutes as it was 8:45 and It was his final time out for the next 12 hours and he had just eaten and been watered-- I wanted him to pee and such. Neighbor called and left a message (I didn't answer-- I just went and got the dog-- neighbor said it was 10pm-- he called at 8:50). I called another neighbor and she said the dog wasn't bothering her (she is closer)-- but she is a sweetie and calls the other neighbor a grump (LOL). I don't want to bother my neighbors. We live in a very tolerant area with lots of dogs and large yards (1/2 acre lots.) We are home most days and we get him inside when he barks for more than 2-3 minutes continuously.--- which is several times a day. I need help training this dog to stop barking on command. I want him to bark at perceived threats-- that is his job. -- but I want him to stop when I say to stop. How do I go about this??????
