  1. I grew up here in Colorado--- to my knowledge we never "moved" Halloween. I have TOT'd in rain, snow, or warm weather. The trick here is to have a costume that can be warn over sweats or still be cool enough if the temp is warm. This year it is up in the air weatherwise
  2. What a good story---that made me smile!
  3. I had been having issues with my mother for years (she is a Borderline personality) but I went to college several states away for one year, came back and got good job while attending college (staying at home). This was during a recession and house prices were very low, so I bought a condo (for 16 grand) and moved out. So I saddled myself with a mortgage and a dog when I was 20-- just so I could move out and get away from my mother and NEVER have to live with another human being. -- Of course she then moved into my condo with me--- but that is another story.
  4. Here! here! **** pounds knife and fork on table****
  5. I don't know-- I honestly think they forgot about the TOT thing!!! One house (a few years ago) was having a huge party (they converted their garage to a den with a bar in it) and the garage door was open and our children ran up to them and yelled TOT!! They had this stunned look and ended up giving the girls pennies or something!!! They now have candy!! One guy ran out to his car where he kept a "secret" stash. It has taken us a few years, but we have most of the neighborhood trained now. We could NEVER go somewhere else-- it would be wrong!!! Plus there have been other children moving into the area--- 10 years ago I think we were the only house with children under 15--now there are about 5 (they don't all TOT though)--- but out of the neighborhood-- there are three (including us) that homeschool!! Plus one that just graduated her homeschooled children.
  6. Wow ...that's just sad. We are in an older neighborhood where people almost never move away...so we are only one of about three families with children-- the rest are empty nesters. We don't get many TOT'ers and feel obligated to stay in our neighborhood so that they don't stop the tradition all together. Some houses sort of look at us blankly and go get some granola bars and some give us 10 pieces of candy each!!! We do get a lot of full size candy bars. I think there are only about 50 houses in the entire neighborhood and only 1/2 actually give out candy-- still--- we clean up!!!
  7. I have a child that doesn't like sandwiches very much so I shake it up with some meat and cheese type things. Cold chicken, summer sausage, ham, beef cheese chunks, (cheddar, swiss or mozzerella) fruit: apple, grapes, orange, french bread chunk, crackers, raw veggies-- cabbage (her favorite) carrots, celery, cucumber, ....... This can all be "made" the night before (unlike a sandwich) and you can definitely have several days worth cut up and ready.
  8. I have a pair close to these: http://www.dearfoams.com/event/catalog:detail/catalogCode/SWEATER-KNIT-BOOT-LS141/categoryCode/NEW and they are warm and no tag that I can tell
  9. Your favorite (holes in the knees and too tight for decency ) jeans are missing? I didn't see them come out of the wash (because they went into the trash first)
  10. I licked the crumbs off my plate--- but it didn't happen 'cause I didn't get caught. What are yours?
  11. I haven't!! but I will go and look for them. I was in marching band in my younger years and know what dedication it takes to do a new design--- these kids must have NO life off the field.
  12. I saw the Michael Jackson one they did last week---moonwalking!!! wow amazing.
  13. My 10yo wanted to be Medusa!! (but she thought she could have real snakes) it lost a lot of appeal after I told her-- ummm no to real snakes!
  14. Jean you crack me up!!! LOL (really) this made my night!! Lara
  15. Thank you Ellie!! I just posted a thread on the k-8 forum, so you need not reply (LOL). This helped a lot!! I think I can handle two days a week! Looking at the books, I think I will plan a lot of the units around SOTW (civil war, American revolution etc,,,)
  16. I have a couple of the older volumes and have been encouraged by another thread to give it a second look. Can someone please tell me about it and how to use it? I have Volume 2&3 I am considering it for my youngers (now in third grade) I am happy with my current SOTW for history and MUS for math and MCT for grammar and WWE for writing. I am NOT happy with my science (sonlight) or the sonlight Core C in general. (we like the books, not the history) Can I use this as an add-on? How much time does it take per day? Next year my olders will be more independent workers for more of the day (I hope) leaving me more time to do things with my youngers. The stuff I am neglectful in is : science, Bible and practical living skills taking a glace at volume 2 -- these seem to be the focus-- or am I wrong? Lara
  17. I have volume 2 (green '89) and volume 3 (red '88). I have used one as a prop for my printer for two years. So tell me about Konos-- it looks like a lot of work!! I have two third graders this year--- are we too late? What other stuff do I need to be complete (other than math) Can I use it as a supplement? (I currently do Sonlight for my olders and am set up to do Trisms next year) but the youngers....... Or maybe I should just get rid of it and the guilt of being too lazy to even look at it.....
  18. I asking this because I have two older volumes and am considering what to do with them. These are from '88 and '89--- is this junk or something people want? I am asking here to save the time of doing research-- not to hit people up for purchases. Lara
  19. I have the KA 325 watt mixer--- I like it, but I cannot say that it overwhelms me. If I were to buy another mixer I would look at the 525 watt but I would also look at the Boschi. Mine is 13 years old and the motor struggles with heavy dough and the different speeds sort of stopped being consistently different about three years ago.
