  1. My family likes cocktail weiners wrapped in Crescent Rolls. Chipped Beef Dip This makes a large quantity so I usually cut the recipe in half but use 2 full packages of cream cheese. ½ cup mayonnaise 3- 8 ounce packages of cream cheese 8 ounces sour cream 5 teaspoons horseradish (optional, I don’t use) 3 Tablespoons sweet pickle juice 6 packages Budig chipped beef, diced (I usually put through the food processor) Soften cream cheese. Add mayo, sour cream, and pickle juice and mix well. Stir in beef and spread on crackers. Flavor is better if left in the fridge a few hours before serving.
  2. Chicken baby food (starter food, without any flavorings or additives). Most kittens can't resist it. :)
  3. My mom came home once to find that her huge black lab had ingested a huge section of the new red carpet she'd installed in the porch. It all made it's way out eventually and he never chewed carpet again. Here's hoping your pup will be okay. I know what you mean--I never, ever was going to have a cat and then one day a little black ball of fluff appeared all alone in my back yard...
  4. What a wonderful, wonderful gift! I have some of my husband's grandma's cook and bakeware and nothing does as well as those items. I'd been using her old Revereware pots and pans and had been coveting a new set of Calphalon. Last year I found a set at a very good deal and brought that home and shelved the old stuff. It wasn't long before the Revereware found its way back into my cupboard--only occasionally do I grab for a Calphalon pot and that only when I need some serious non-stick action. I have her old angel food cake pan, muffin tins, and bread pans. When I've wanted to add on additional bread pans I found the newer ones didn't even come close. I just discovered Doughmaker's though, and I have to say I'm loving those cookie sheets. Enjoy your gift--what a special one that is! Gifts--it was a very low key Christmas for us adults this year. I got some of my favorite Godiva chocolate from my daughter,a Starbucks giftcard, and last month I ordered myself 4 Yankee Candle large jar candles in Hazelnut Coffee. I love that scent and it only made a brief appearance before it's disappearing again.
  5. I'm thinking one of those digital flip cameras for my 13yo for his March bday. He really likes taking video but could care less about photos so I thought he'd enjoy that.
  6. My boys are 13 and 16. Both are into music so that opens the doors for many gift ideas. 13yo got a collection of comics (Zits, but they were getting Garfield and Foxtrot before Zits and I always got a lot of milage over those), castanets, a Rubic's Cube, and a djembe drum. 16yo got a plaid flannel and fur hat, gloves with removable finger coverings, and a book he'd been wanting. Also, he got Beatles Rock Band and everyone was having a great time with that today. They took it along to Grandma and Grandpa's to help pass the time there today. Some kids just aren't wowed over by gifts and that makes it tough when you want to make it really special for them.
  7. Several suggestions from my kids: 1) Turn the power off and on and try again. 2) Push the reset button which is right below the power button and try again. 3) Disconnect the machine from the power (as in remove the power supply from the Wii) and let sit for 30 minutes. This has taken care of any problems on ours the others haven't fixed.
  8. I'm still undecided too. I can't travel due to recovering from surgery so the family is going ahead and it will just be me and my mom. I'd really hoped to carry out Mexican but the restraunts are closed.
  9. I'd add something to the package along with the smaller gift cards--like a bag of M&M's that they can have their hands on right away.
  10. Our chess club recommended Chessmaster. It's is also available for Nintendo DS, which is how most of the older kids played it.
  11. I certainly will keep your friend in my thoughts. I had placenta previa with one of mine and it ruptured when I checked into the hospital and the labor nurse was checking me. Those were the longest, scariest minutes of my life waiting for the doctors to arrive to do an emergency C-section.
  12. Big babies just stick with you. :) Weights I remember: 8-4, 10-5, and 9-3. The 10-5 was born at 10:05 am. After that it gets fuzzy.
  13. I broke open one of my fruitcakes. Had it with a little butter and a cup of tea. :)
  14. I had a child who hated surprises to the point of it causing anxiety. I used to shop with him, wrap with him, and stash the gifts in his closet. I see the point in taking away the joy from the giver, but since it was a tradeoff of my joy giving him angst, I decided it was easier to make it easier. I used to be a snooper--found most of my gifts growing up. It never killed me but I just kept my mouth shut about it.
  15. I absolutely love Christmas Saxophone. http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Saxophone-Instrumental-Various-Artists/dp/B0002WZSXK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1261413897&sr=8-1
  16. One year I went to Walmart at 7:30 am the Saturday before Christmas. Now being the Saturday before Christmas you would think they would have plenty of checkers on hand by the time I was ready to check out after 8am. But no, they had hardly and checkers and I stood in line so long that I was about to add the people around me to my Christmas card list. While I was in line this cute young thing walks up to the checker with a single pair of black, very high heeled shoes and asks to be checked out since she only had one item. And the louse did it! Now I'm usually pretty patient in lines but I seriously felt like throwing my canned pumpkin at them both.
  17. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/289533 Shoulder roast also goes by the name of English roasts. Kroger has them.
  18. Me too, but it's no extra trouble. I make the rolls for Christmas dinner and I make up extra dough so they have hot rolls out of the oven for breakfast with hot cider. I always use festive disposable paperware too.
  19. My in-laws always do cookies with Dairy Queen ice cream for dessert. Their ice cream is fairly light and served with a wafer cookie or mint or fruit on the side would be nice. Ice cream desserts make up nicely ahead of time.
  20. I bought an artificial tabletop tree to use in our living room this year. It adds some holiday cheer and didn't cost a bunch of time or money we couldn't afford.
  21. Most of the time, peanut butter. Tonight, clear liquids: water and chicken broth.
  22. I buy a rice mix at Walmart that has wild rice plus several other types and cook that with homemade chicken broth. It has just a enough flavor to count, but not so much that it fights with other flavors or sauces.
