  1. I was just thinkin' ...hope you don't get her kicked off... since you'll have that "duplicate" thing going on.... Carrie
  2. Boy, I'm the bad one around here. I LOVE tv... LOVE chocolate... and LOVE Soda. Of course, my tv is hard to not watch, I try not to keep Chocolate in the house, either... and I drink soda when out or maybe once or twice I'll bring soda home. My son is really affected by soda and caffeine. Moderation is the key... the less the better. I need to remember juice and seltzer. That's what I drank when I was younger. Also, the sodas without the high fructose syrup are better. I try to purchase those.... Carrie:-)
  3. This is one reason why I didn't purchase the Henty series. How could I tell my children what part to remember as fact?? Carrie:-)
  4. http://www.safeguardseat.com/industries/child-seating.html BUt now I can't find it... It looked really good and narrow... I saw it advertised in a baby magazine:-) Carrie
  5. Usually, I've heard low and roll into the next one, unless you are so close to the maximum on your debt level with the high... that you'd worried it's gonna make it jump interest wise... Carrie
  6. Hi There, I've heard good things about it.... and also St Andrews in Idaho... which is where my oldest daughter really wanted to go... minus the fact that we didn't have $$$ saved for it. St Andrews is not Catholic.... it's Reformed... for the purposes of school... I think a Conservative Christian would feel ok about it. I really liked it... I was raised Bible Fellowship... and Baptist:-) Carrie
  7. "We work on sitting goals for the week(all of the children have different programs that require goals be set and accomplished through church that they work on). " What are some examples of this? I like this thread... like it or not.... we should be trying to set aside the day to be with family... Carrie
  8. This sounds like a nice compromise. I can tell you that not participating in things like this, regardless of what you tell the children, can make a serious impact. Mine was a bit different, but my parents wouldn't join the PTA at my school when I was 6, and didn't realize that it kept the class from having an icecream party... thus... I was the one who... needed to ask their mom and dad to join... (didn't happen... no icecream party for my class) You wouldn't think I'd remember it... but I did... Carrie
  9. http://kellymom.com/ Here's a great site for you to look at. Don't call it "Fed on Demand", call it "Feed on Request", that'll make you feel better. Each time the baby nuzzles to nurse... think of him asking, "Please mama, feed me... nurture me... let me get some comfort" :-) (oh, and you will want to see if it's better for you to let him get all the milk on one side... I did a couple of minutes on the first side, to bring relief to me... and then finished on the "second" side.... You'll figure it out what works for you both, soon:-) Also, check out what you'd like to wear your baby in....Soft wraps for the winter are great. You may want to make one.... a few yards of fabric, and a Mama who's worn one.... will make a great wrap... (Kinda like a Moby or Ultimate Wrap" http://myfavoritebabycarrier.com/ has wraps/carriers and offers a money back guarantee. I really love the Ergo for about 6 months. You'll find as you remember that Jesus was fed when he was hungry, slept with his Mama and Papa and held in arms... that being caring for your baby can be so sweet. There will be plenty of times to teach them what "wait" means, when there is a reason to... and it's the right time.... Best Wishes... (Oh.. and if you want a cool baby hammock.... the kanoe baby hammock works well:-)
  10. Wow... another cool thing about Bill:D:D:D He knows Farsi:001_smile: I wish we could all meet, it'd be fun to put faces with posts:D Carrie
  11. I'm curious what you'd suggest. Should I make reusable ones and then compost it in the special doggy compost thing... I can buy... that you install into the ground? I thought I was "good" just making it so that others don't step in it... and it doesn't get into the water supply... Carrie:confused::confused::confused::confused:
  12. Ok, for someone who's gone through this... I have a son who understands that he can skip count for a multiplication answer, I'm using a Japanese abacus to teach basic math. Although... the abacus is for just solidifying his understanding. He can look at 8 + 9 and without using his fingers tell you it's 17. He loves to sing about squares and cubes... He memorizes better than I ever have. Review it three times... and he's set. He is a young 6; right now he loves math. I am using Singapore US Textbooks with the teacher's part from Sonlight, for my daughter and think he might do well with them. I think he has done ok without a curriculum... But to be honest, I just wanna start him on something... for more to do. And, for the habit of "school". Of course, we'll still do living math books and such... Where can I start him... either now or next year... I think it might be a good idea to figure out how to not "miss" anything since it seems different than the math I'm use to. (of course, I'm not use to an abacus either...) Thanks! Carrie:-)
  13. I am careful about what she eats. I just am not as concerned with exactly the same things as when we first started the journey. I do try very hard to make sure that I only allow safe foods.. Carrie
  14. Orange Tic Tacs, orange candies that are softish with the sugar on them, strawberry pop-tarts with no frosting on them.. these are a few of my favorite thngs. :-) It has absolutely nothing to do with how good they are... and everything to do with my Grandma. She would always bring them to us when she visited. (sugar...yay!!) I remember my step gma letting me get a soda out of their soda machine (glass bottles) and she brought those orange peanut candies, too ... I think that someone else was talking about... And of course, the homemade wheat bread that my mom grinds the berries... and bakes the bread... and we all eat the first loaf with lots of butter and maybe some honey:-) Carrie
  15. Straight peanut butter is what I'm most worried about... and I do ask that kids wash their hands after lunch, if I think of it.. Carrie:-)
  16. Hi There, Many people are resentful about it. I'd offer to bring sun butter, which is something that tastes like peanut butter... but unless sunflowers are a problem... won't make your son sick. (People are always like... my kids only eat peanut butter. If their parents don't tell them the SunButter is different... they usually don't realize it:-) I always say "Peanut Butter to my child is like Raid to yours; it's a poison to her." Hope that's a basically fair analogy. When they about it being something that's a poison... something that could kill them... Since she's 11, I've been able to be looser about it... but when she was little... it was just SO scary! For us, she knows not to eat things without asking me... I do explain to people the thing about looking at packages... You have to be vigilant. Pepperidge fish are ok for her... this other kind of cheese cracker that is shaped like a whale... is not... Good Luck!! Carrie:-)
  17. They are going for over $1000 here. And, they are a "bred mutt" so you lose the power of a pure bred, and don't have the power of a "mutt" that usually meant healthier:-) to those getting them. ( I also looked at a Lagatto) I was going to get one, but decided not to.. I decided that I'd get a wheaten terrier, and I had a spot to purchase them.... It was someone who showed dogs and had one litter from each female:-) Anyway, I ended up getting a black Humane Society Dog:-) Carrie:-)
  18. Another Bummis Super wisp cover lover:-) And.... wool wraps/covers, too!! And.... I likes my one from Fuzzy Bunz and now I see that they have "one sized". If you get these, they have an insert for toddlers and infants.... http://store.naturalbabies.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=3426 Carrie
  19. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Don't leave over this... take a breather. My daughter is truly allergic to peanuts and other food items. I didn't think the analogy was perfect... but decided that I knew what you meant. We don't have to be perfect here... just gracious. SO, don't take one or even more than one... person's offense... and let it get you. It's hard to write a post sometimes; we're not on here writing thesis' where everything is triple checked. You're fine... out of 4 kids.. my son is the most affected with sugar and perhaps some other foods. I try to be sensitive to him and foods.
  20. I have let my 5 year old walk with my older daughters (13 and 16.....) and I think I am responsible:-) I also have the 11 year old... but he hasn't walked with just her yet. Carrie
  21. I think WHY it works for some and not for others, is because you took what you wanted and left the rest. There are serious medical problems with babies whose parents follow it... and have children who don't thrive. It's not all happy like "those alert happy babies in the church nursery". And yes, I've read the book:-) But you... read the book and got positive love things from it, from what you've written:-) Good for you!! The problem is... not many go into hospitals because their babies have been fed TOO much br**st milk... and Ezzo... while popular... was having some real problems with mamas having underweight... failure to thrive babies.... I believe they have modified their first book. Carrie:-) (whose children nursed forever... and all the time... and had pacies, too. And still talked by 1.5 yrs:-))
  22. Amber, You sound like a love. I'm sure none of us were concerned that you were not attentive to your babies. I've seen what you write... you are a baby pampering type mama and sound great. Everyone wants good ideas for having baby happily sleep!! I would have loved for something to work when I was nursing! I felt like I was an iv for my son.... 10lbs 3 oz when born... ate ... I swear... like every 2 hrs around the clock:-) Anyway, aren't you the cloth nappy person??? You sound great to me! Carrie:-)
  23. If you're gonna let them shave, the razors with the soap right on them, are worth it... The make it much easier to not cut yourself. :-) Carrie
