What's your favorite TV show?
SonshineLearner replied to treestarfae's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Lie to Me.... The Good Wife... :) -
Hey You!! So I googled it, since my Dad isn't handy..... He [Hillel 1] would say no pit fear sin, and with the country advocate, not shy learned, not the martinet teach, and not all goods are waiting for whoever, and instead that people strive to be a man; Is that where this is from? Or.. perhaps it's just a general saying about not being timid in learning, and teaching with seriousness? Enlighten me :)

Grrr . . . vent about doctor
SonshineLearner replied to Kirch's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Ours had a couple of "Dr Back-ups". Have you asked if they have Drs to call if they aren't in? They weren't in practice together.... but they swapped patients when necessary... ?? -
It's time to be transparent
SonshineLearner replied to Nakia's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Poor thing :( Prayer and Bible reading are important, but so are meds. Trust those around you about when and if you need them. Your husband is your "helper" too. I don't know about meds like you do... but we all have something we can think of and sorta "relate".... I know there are MANY people who are on meds... and wouldn't tell you.... You're brave to remind us that meds are to help us all out... For some reason, things are off in this world sometimes... The hope of Heaven, right? :) -

Our chx pox wasn't helped with Oatmeal baths... made it worse. Keep em oiled up while they have anything like a scab.... it makes it so it feels better... and then it helps them not scar... too.... :) (I made a "witches brew" of every healing oil that I could think of...) -
It's official!!! Were moving!

We love Oatmeal Crepes....Well, you use Ground Oat Groats (what is started with before they are "rolled") You then do kefir or yogurt/milk..... lots of eggs.... and just a bit of juice sweetened jam... could you do something like that? I roll them up and freeze them... (or quarter them and freeze) They are SOOO yummy! -

If your kids believed in Santa-
SonshineLearner replied to Binalina's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Maybe emphasize Saint Nicholas? Read some stories of different takes... leave out info to gently bring her around... and perhaps she can "help" with the littles? I too have a problem with teaching a child about Santa to that point.. I mean.. if Santa isn't real... but you said he is... what about Jesus? Is he still real?? Perhaps just honestly coming to her... ?? :( -
Yup, it'd work perfectly. You just sit down with a pencil and some coffee... preferably all by yourself. If it were me, I'd choose to insert the same topic that CC uses... but your own definition for English grammar... Really... the secular use... not in a group will be almost perfect... you just will maybe tweak a couple of things.. I'd then schedule in things like whatever you're working on in Latin and Arabic... right into the plan. When you import the cd... then when you burn your new one... you'll just insert whatever you've changed or added... perfect :) Invite a couple of families over... and presto... you've got a group!! I'd choose to do it with a total of 3 or 4 families and split it up by quarter... or a couple of subjects each... When you do a TIME and a DAY :) you've got more of a chance of succeeding :)

Need Help: Irish Name (pronunciation)
SonshineLearner replied to Sahamamama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Kinda "Jay-mus" Seamus "shay + muss" James The Irish version of James. Many well-known Irishmen have been called Seamus including the 1995 Nobel poet laureate Seamus Heaney. The Nobel prize in Literature was awarded for his "works of lyrical beauty and ethical depth, which exalt everyday miracles and the living past." -
Well, I'm the one who thought that it's ok for cats to roam, as here it is. They are not under leash law, in Oregon. BUT, dogs are! So, here, you can "catch" a dog and call animal control. It's better here to call animal control because you can't be charged with "kidnapping" the dog. If you take them in, you can't prove they were on your property. Some places will send out "animal control" to catch dogs. If you have record of how often the dog has been over, that may help. Do you have a fenced yard? I wouldn't want to start shooting animals, not because it's not your right... but in this case, I'd be leery that they'd be likely to turn violent and shoot something of mine... and... with you having kids and all... it doesn't work to make neighbors angry. You'd have to be really brave, but have you seen the book Peacemakers? It has an example of neighbors with a dog problem. It seems like it may be worth thinking about doing the neighborly thing, if at all possible. (It's basically, "We've noticed a situation we were wondering if we could work out with you." In the book.. if I remember right, the man actually helped them relocate their kennel... and other things.. BUT, it solved the problem and built bridges for friendships.." I know... easier said than done.... just a thought.

SonshineLearner replied to Dobela's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Oh fun!! When I was 14, I had homeschool friends... her family had 8 kids and clean white couches... She had trained her goats to be "house trained".... They can be super smart!! Have fun... and there are tons of threads on here about goats :) -
Reformed curriculum junkie (hopefully)
SonshineLearner replied to Jennifer's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
How bout picking say... Sonlight, add Classical Conversations Memory Work..... and don't look around at anything else. :) Although, if you want to ADD subjects that AREN'T there... like say.... Latin... you could do Angela in Ohio's recommendation for early years.... ( I don't think there was any curriculum to purchase for that at all...) And.... you could also use the WTM for suggestions on how to bring out certain things you like... (Like Narration) Then you wouldn't be trying new curriculum all the time :) -
The place that offered to tutor my daughter in math, said that because of our situation, they'd offer her a "bargain rate" of $18 an hour. Ugh.... (If we were low income, she could have received 30 hrs free.... because of the public school... and a program...) Bummer... $18 might be inexpensive.. but it's a lot for us!! :(
