  1. How funny is it that we are all having issues w/ our 12 year olds this week! Calgon, take me away!!
  2. Should I have a serious red flag that ds 12 does not follow the story and cannot recite back to me the story line and/or major literary issues? What level of reading is this book? Any tips would be appreciated. Side note: I'm trying to ramp up his reading to get him ready for Omnibus 1 in the fall (online class). Thanks in advance!!

  4. Gwen, Yes, I am relieved to hear from a bona-fide university that virtual labs will work. I am still researching this topic. Thanks again for your responses :)
  5. How about a nice "chicky" book like Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austin. The vocab is slightly advanced (the Brits do that!) but you should be fine! Good for you for wanting to ramp up your reading. I am trying the same thing this year. You go, girl! :)
  6. Choirfarm, Will you stretch bio over 8th & 9th? I'm thinking of skipping Physical Science and going to straight to bio for my upcoming 8th'er. Thanks!
  7. Congrats, Jean! That is wonderful news! YOU should feel proud of YOURSELF for helping him achieve this accomplishment/award!
  8. bumping for Gwen (yoo-hoo, Gwen!) :) Also, here is an email from UofW admissions office to me in response to my question about virtual labs: Your email was forwarded to me. We will use a virtual lab course to meet the lab requirement providing the course is a general biology course with a lab experience. Go Dawgs! ...Gaylynn
  9. Jackie, Who are your kiddos taking Lingua Latina w/ online? Thanks!
  10. Lord Of The Rings trilogy by Tolkien Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis Little Britches, Man Of The Family series, Ralph Moody Little Women, Alcott (my dd only) Illiad/Odyssey, Homer Know What You Believe, Paul Little I know this is more than 5. I could list more but I'll stop here. Why these books? Classics, thought-provoking.
  11. My first week up at WWU in Bellingham I went to the library to study. I asked this cute guy to watch my books while I went to the bathroom (sure sign that I was a freshman). I came back to the table, started studying (maybe a little flirting) and we started to visit. It was twu-wuv! 16 years of marriage, 4 kids later -- and the rest is history...
  12. Good idea. We use Singapore workbooks (4 A & B, 5 A & B) & CWP w/ TT 6 & 7. We switch to CD for Alg and don't feel the need to supplement. For the price, you can't beat the little Singapore workbooks. And yes, we have to go back a level in Singapore. My dd 10 (5th grade), uses 4th & 5th grade Singapore materials.
  13. Jean, Do you mean he will need to start over w/ Alg 1? Will he get college credit for this new class or does the college consider it remedial? Sorry to be daft. Thanks!!
  14. No! I'm not ready yet! I need to pre-read Omnibus text plus the books & try and get a grip on Lingua Latina (not!) before September! Calgon, take me away!!
  15. My son just played a lacrosse game in snow/hail/rain! Crazy!!
  16. Office Manager/News/Traffic/Weather/Commercials, etc. for small local radio station. I graduated in '92 from WWU in Broadcast Comm. My husband called me "Bambi, the weather girl" :)
  17. Tap, Tap, Tap, Are you in Vancouver? Is it snowing at your house yet? :)
  18. I hope you didn't feel like that about the K-8 or high school board. They are the sweetest, most inviting group of folks -- ever! I was welcomed w/ open arms when I joined last summer. As for the General board -- I just joined in these conversations recently and have had a great reception. I was disturbed by the tone of some of the members' postings over the last couple weeks, but it seems to have subsided. I do like the meaty discussions w/ dissenting ideas (nod to Phred :)) because I need to learn more about issues that I otherwise would not discuss anywhere else. Not to mention, my kiddos will be having these discussions in "real-life" in the not-so-distant-future and its great to know what is coming down the pike. I obviously have a lot of reading/researching to do. Rambling to self now...thanks for indulging :) Happy Friday Night!!
  19. I'm curious how colleges view this program. Will it meet the lab requirement w/ the dvd portion? Thanks!!
  20. Wow, Michelle. All this AND you got up at 4:15 to watch CD dvds? You are DA BOMB!! Thanks!!
