Favorite Shakespearean histories?
Beth in SW WA replied to Jane in NC's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
This is in my Netflix queue. We just watched the 4-hour Branagh Hamlet this weekend. My dd 10 was hooked. Ds 12, not so much. Branagh is also fabulous in Much Adou. He could easily replace Russel Crowe as my new favorite actor! -
Speaking of Nance, he is starting his first-ever online Intro To Logic course starting in the Fall. My son will do CD Alg 1 and this course simultaneously. We will most likely not do formal science so he can devote the necessary time needed for those 2 courses (as well as Omnibus 1 and Latin 1). Last night we took a friend of my ds's to youth group and he just tested for a 9th grade Science/Engineering magnet program. He said it had tons of Logic questions on the test which he was completely unfamiliar w/. I thought that was interesting.

We have snow north of us in Kelso -- South of us near you. But no snow at my house in Vancouver! Enjoy it! -

UPDATE :) I spoke w/our local school district yesterday and they said Alg 1 and high school level foreign language WILL be eligible for high school credit even if taken as early as age 13 and/or 7th/8th grade. It is an option available for parents as late as the senior year -- to 'bring up' those credits from middle school. She warned that you can add those credits at any time until graduation -- but you can never remove them once you've added them (so make sure its a good grade).

United Streaming OR Rosetta Stone for Spanish?
Beth in SW WA replied to Sue G in PA's topic in Bilingual Education Board
Mama, I am purchasing the new Version 3 for those very reasons. Easy on Mom. Tried & true program. Expensive, but isn't everything? :) -

No, you had it right -- I was mistaken. Of course you were speaking to Valerie. Ding-dong me! -

Valerie, I'm hoping you get a response regarding this program. Version 3 looks awesome. Easy on Mom :) -
Yes, Colleen, that makes sense. To start Algebra early (for a not-so-mathy kid -- like mine) just means a tough go of it in 11th & 12th to meet the math requirements. So what's the point? :) My dd 10 is due to start CD Pre-Alg by December and I think that's too early, for her anyway.

Can you please clarify this for me please? Are you saying WA State History studied in 8th can be included on transcripts? Thanks!

Yes, Janet. UofW is on our horizon. I consider it the gold standard as far as public colleges in WA. We will at least meet or exceed their requirements, although I have no idea where my kiddos will attend. I just want to be prepared. I was just reading TWTM again today regarding preparing for college. SWB says 'plan ahead' -- (a terrible thing for this uber-planner to read) :)

I've actually hunted high and low to figure out where to put Logic on transcripts. I was thinking it would be considered and elective. You are putting Logic in the math section of your transcripts? Which logic program are you doing in the co-op? Also, what Bio did you use in 8th? Thanks!
