  1. Great questions. I don't know why they call it "6" when it is obviously basic 5th grade math for the average student. Type "Teaching Textbooks" and/or "TT" in the search box up top and you'll get quite a few threads from the last month or so.
  2. TT 5 will be basic 4th grade math. We use TT 6 & 7 and they are 5th & 6th grade math programs.
  3. [quote I would enjoy having another of our philosophical chats. Jane Here is a philosophical chat regarding grammar from the old k-8 board: http://wtmboards.com/K8currSep212007/messages/1969.html
  4. We're opting for the Omnibus 1 online course for next year for ds 12 for that very reason. Depth of discussion/analysis is highly lacking on my watch.
  5. I know, isn't it fun??? I was searching for old posts today about grammar (per your thread, Jessica) --- and I got sucked into pages and pages from the old boards. I usually google: wtmboards ________ (put whatever topic and/or person). Its great that the old boards are stored in cyberspace (kinda weird, though) :)
  6. My daughter finished Saxon 54 (basic 4th grade math) and placed into TT 6 (basic 5th grade math). You'll love TT -- so easy on Mom!
  7. Ruth, You might try cross-posting this to the high school board to get some responses. Good luck!
  8. My former high school teacher co-founded TPS and wrote the Narnia materials. Her name is Dr. Sharon Bridwell and is currently retired from TPS (still on the board) and an excellent teacher has taken over. It will be extremely rigorous, knowing Dr. B. Email the current teacher and ask how the class is set up.
  9. Yes, Beth, its the best deal in cyber-space, imho! I'm trying to break the record for checking out the most in a given month (to get my price/rental as low as possible). I'm just a geek that way :). (and I'm just kidding -- but I do love a deal!)
  10. We considered that option for our middler's -- but the LC program has dvd lessons which are perfect for a family just starting out w/a non-Latin busy mom. We are doing both LC 1 & 2 this year (Sept - Sept). The dvd's are awesome -- but I seem to be in the minority w/ that opinion. We love Leigh Lowe. Jessica, I totally understand your angst. I am currently losing sleep/fretting over the path to take next year (Henle? Lingua? LitCT?). Keep us posted on what you decide. Not to throw a kink in your plan, but have you seen Sing Song Latin from CAP. It looks darling! I'm going to buy it for my 3 & 4 y-olds just for the cute Latin songs. Their website has samples of the songs. Onward & upward...:)
  11. Speaking of Netflix, we watched Much Adou About Nothing (Emma Thompson) and A Midsummer Nights Dream (Michelle Pheiffer) over the last 2 weekends. I had my kiddos cover their eyes for a few of the "adult" moments. All in all, my kids are loving Shakespeare. I love that these modern twists on classics are making Shakespeare accessible to this non-literary mom and kiddos. Go Netflix! And I just put Animated Tales in my queue. Thanks for the tip!
  12. Hi Lisa, (sorry for the hijack, Carli) I'll see you there at WHO for sure! Carli and I just realized we're practically neighbors. Small world! :001_smile: Thanks again for the D'aulaires...
  13. What she said.... Its a great movie and not too cheesy. Yes, great special effects and scenery. Also loved "Troy" w/ Brad Pitt -- although the movie was such a digression from the book.
  14. Yes, Excellent series!! We also received from Netflix: Engineering an Empire series (Egypt, Rome, etc) We watched 300 & Gladiator w/ lots of fast-forwards due to content. We paused often for me to give the history lessons (which my kids actually enjoyed).
  15. What are your "materials" of choice? TOG, I'm assuming -- and R & S. What did you do to prepare your oldest ds for Plato? And what happened to your blog? I enjoyed it. Thanks again, Janice. This has been a fun thread (and quite a wake up call, for me!) :)
  16. Thanks, Janice! What a blessed bunch you have!! My dd 10 just started reading The Hobbit last week. She will be viewing your clips first thing Monday AM. I sense a cyber-school in your future!! :) I just ordered QuiverOf10's used copy of Rod & Staff Grammar 6. Is there actually hope we can catch up and get a grip on grammar? Keep the videos coming. You have been one of my cyber-inspirations since I found this group last summer. This is the best teacher's lounge -- ever!!
  17. Thanks, gang. Looks like a combo of Great Books/ challenging lit w/ some roots study and Vocab cartoons thrown into the mix.
