  1. My son is first on the list. Scott at Logos School Materials has the info: 866-562-2174 Here is the materials list for the class: http://www.logosschool.com/materials/shop/item.asp?itemid=176 Mr. Nance is still finalizing plans for the course (price/time). He thinks probably Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:30 am Pacific time.
  2. Great question. Rosetta Stone says that it qualifies as high school credit but others here think it is weak on grammar. I'm curious what replies you receive. I have my eye on the new Version 3 of RS Spanish (Homeschool).
  3. Thanks, gang. Our local middle school offers Algebra 1 and Foreign Language and allows students to "bring up" those credits to high school transcripts. So hundreds of local kids have that benefit. Is that a normal procedure or unique to my area? I was hoping to do the same. But maybe in the long run it wont matter. The University of Washington admissions website says this: "A foreign language course taken in the eighth grade may satisfy one year of the requirement if the second-year course is completed in high school." And this regarding math: "Three years of study are required, at least at the level of algebra, geometry, and second-year algebra. An algebra course completed in the last year of junior high school may partially satisfy the requirement if the second-year algebra is completed in secondary school." Kathleen, you are right. VP says Omnibus 1 is a 7th grade program. But so many use it for 9th and include on transcripts. I'm obviously thinking ahead to make our high school years as efficient as possible. Does anyone else have experience/insight w/ this issue? Thanks!!
  4. My upcoming 8th grader will start these subjects this Summer/Fall: CD Alg 1 Latin 1 (high school level) Intro To Logic (Nance) Omnibus 1 w/ online class (possibly considered honors?) These seem like high school level courses and should be eligible for high school credit. Please correct me if I am totally off base here. Thanks a million!
  5. Georgia, Will you assign a high school science credit for Biology covered in 7th and/or 8th grades? Thanks!
  6. I agree. Dr. Mosely is wonderful. DS 12 loves him! The dvds are worth every penny for this non-mathy mom. DH is mathy, thankfully, but its great that Dr. Mosely does the bulk of the formal teaching. I correct math daily, dh helps w/ missed problems/cementing concepts. We look forward to the Larson text for Alg 1 in the Fall (hint, hint for anyone who will soon be finishing up CD Alg 1).:)
  7. Same here -- w/ dc 10 & 12. We will do both LC 1 & 2 this school year w/ dvd's. They are excellent, imho, especially for the non-Latin mom :)
  8. Thank you both for your replies. I thought we were set to enroll dd in our local classical Christian homeschool co-op. But our neighborhood school just announced this program will start in the Fall. They would hear/speak no English except at PE and Music. Who would have thought my 2 daughters adopted from China would be speaking Spanish fluently? Nothing surprises me anymore. :)
  9. I'm reading Omnibus 1 text and various readings. Reading all of Jane Austin this spring/Summer. Reading CS Lewis, slowly and steadily. Reading/watching Shakespeare (yeah, Netflix!). Lots of Bible reading/study. My doctrinal knowledge is terrible. I have a lllloooonnnnnggggg way to go.
  10. I am just beginning this w/ my dc 10 & 12. We will do it orally. I bought the TM used from a mom here. I bought the audio cd's of the trilogy from another mom here. As I said in a prior post, "Middle Earth, here we come!" :)
  11. Hi Thelma, A mom on the high school board, Julie in PA, is married to the Omnibus 1 online teacher, Bruce Etter. She and others here have been helpful w/ my Omnibus questions (nod to Julie in GA). My son will take the secondary readings course w/ Mr. Etter and we will plow through the primary readings at home. I'm pre-reading the text book (hence, the dark circles under my eyes) and all I can say is "Wow!" It is incredible. I have so much to learn. I'm devouring every word. The class costs $550 for the year which I think is fair. I'm trying to ramp up my son's reading to get him ready for the rigor of this class. I believe it is an 1+ of reading daily (on top of his reading in other subjects). Four papers are due, so it is not heavy on writing. We will do that separately. Mr. Etter has responded to various email questions about the class. He is great. Does that help? Others here are so knowledgeable about this course. Check out the high school board and post a question there. Omnibus has quite a following there. Our family is not Reformed but that did not hinder me to using Veritas resources. Let me know if I can be any more help.
  12. We have the Study Workbook for World History. Each video has a Lesson page w/ comprehension questions and some essay questions. I let my kids fill in the answers while they watch the lesson.
  13. My dc 12 is in CD Pre -Alg. Day 1: watch dvd lesson of one Section, do 1/2 Section of problems (odds) -- 2 hours Day 2: do 1/2 Section (evens) -- 1 hour We repeat this pattern. He works w/ dh on Saturdays going over missed problems and cementing concepts.
  14. Great news, Stacy. I was just laying in bed earlier this morning praying for you. Keep us posted on your healing and recovery. Happy Easter :)

  16. DS will be 13 year-old 8th grader in the Fall... Bible study Math: CD Alg 1 Latin: Lingua Latina + _____ for grammar (undecided on which online class) History/Lit/Theology: Omnibus 1 online class Writing/Grammar: PTIW, IEW Grammar Fix-Its, Sentence Composing/Middler Science: Apologia Physical Geo: Trail Guide Logic: maybe Nance Guitar
  17. AMEN! Latin is mental gymnastics -- also a great self-confidence builder! My dc know that learning Latin *well* will help train their brains for future study in whatever they set their hearts or minds too. Anything seems easier than Latin (well, almost anything) :)
  18. My dd is eligible for a Spanish immersion program at our neighborhood school. It will be 90% Spanish, 10% English instruction. Am I crazy to consider this -- or crazy not to jump at the chance? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks a million!
  19. Congratulations, Kathleen! Any secrets to his success? (Please say "Latin") :) Thanks!!
  20. My kiddos who just began Latin in Sept took the Intro test (green) last week. We hadn't covered everything on the test but they still think they did fairly well. I loved the formality of it -- and I think test-taking is a good skill to maintain. We took it very seriously.
  21. James 5:13-18 The Prayer of Faith 13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
  22. I am a first generation grad (Western Washington University '92). My dh is a 3rd generation grad (WWU '91). His maternal grandfather was a college professor of Agriculture in CO & OR back in the old days when Agriculture was a degree :)
