  1. Thanks, gang. I'm also going to contact this local teacher and see if I can be a fly on the wall in his class sometime. Our local Christian Youth Theater is doing a summer Shakespeare theater camp that I'm excited about. Now -- to get my kids excited about Shakespeare. :) Thanks, again.
  2. We are using CD PreAlg w/ ds 12. The dvd's w/ Prof Mosely are great -- but success w/ this program hinges on the parent being able to cement/walk through the problems later, IMHO. My husband reviews and helps w/ all my son's math issues throughout the week -- AND they spend an hour or 2 on Saturdays going through concepts to make sure ds gets it (to my dh's satisfaction). I don't think you could stick in the dvd and have your dc watch it and expect NOT to be involved w/ supplemental teaching by mom or dad. I am watching the dvd's w/ my son so I can help him if needed. But its dh who is mathy and can spot any gaps that my ds might have. The complete solutions manual is fantastic. The book is thorough. I expect that same situation w/ the Larson text for Alg 1.
  3. Thank you, ladies, for your responses. Eliana, do you see the productions at your local community theater or on dvd? Do you have a list that would be good for grammar stage? Thanks!!
  4. Does anyone take the Henle online class w/ Memoria and combine w/ LL studies on the side? What books would I need to buy for each program?
  5. I recommend searching the high school board for posts regarding TT. We've had many discussions regarding TT there in the last couple months. Jann in TX has some great perspective on this topic, as she is a math tutor. We used TT following Saxon. We will use Chalkdust for the Algebra series.
  6. I second Teaching Textbooks. Excellent program for 5th & 6th grades, IMHO. :)

Latin Exam in March
  8. I'm dying to hear your choice! Doesn't it feel good to know what's next? :)
  9. My upcoming 6th'er & 8th'er are starting Henle w/ the MP online class following LC 2 this Fall.
  10. We are watching World History: The Fertile Crescent to The American Revolution taught by Linwood Thompson. Its a young high school course and it comes w/ a workbook that the kids fill out while they watch the dvd. We watch the videos when I am introducing a new ere/event in our history studies. Its a nice addition and I hope to purchase more dvd's in the future.
  11. This non-Latin mom LOVES the LC dvd's. We are doing LC 1 & 2 this year -- and loving it. Leigh Lowe, who teaches the lessons on the dvd, is just super. Some folks here don't enjoy the videos much -- but we sure do. Good luck :)
  12. Mark, Welcome! A new Latin expert here -- How wonderful! So many of us have a plethora of questions for the resident Latin teachers and those w/ lots of experience. May I ask you what is your curriculum of choice -- and -- the ages of your kiddos? Thanks for chiming in. My favorite threads here on this board deal w/ Latin since I'm so new to this subject.
  13. http://www.columbian.com/news/localNews/2008/02/02212008_Shakespeares-kids.cfm Has anyone heard of and/or teach No fear, Shakespeare? http://nfs.sparknotes.com/ If so, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!!
  14. Loving CD Pre-Alg here. Perfect for ds 12 (following TT7). He's appropriately challenged which is just what I wanted.
  15. AMEN! My kids are only in LC 2 but they love the mental gymnastics of translating. So many levels of thinking to get it right. You mean we could skip the formal study of logic? Did Drew really say that in his book? I'll have to look that up. I also read on these boards that logic is helpful for geometry (or vice versa)...
  16. Carrie, its great that a conversation on Austin brought you out of lurking :) (on the new boards anyway. For all I know, you've been here for years). You have great insight. Thanks for sharing. Karen, I have the new P & P edition you speak of w/ the details/notes throughout. It was so helpful in reading Austin for the first time. (I wish I could find a Jane Eyre edition like that). Laura, where did you read that Austin's sister destroyed her notes? That's terrible! I'm sucked into Emma currently. Not quite sure how I feel about her. The vocab alone is keeping my pace rather slow going. Do I sense a Jane Austin book club in the making? :)
  17. Looks like an awesome schedule. My kids might be in your online Henle 1 class. We will finish up LC 2 this summer. Doesn't it feel good to have a "plan" for next year? Fun, fun :)
  18. Same here -- 8th grade ds and 6th grade dd next year... 19. Yes, Welcome! I'm a newbie here and have learned tons from the fine folks who frequent these boards (a special "Thanks" to SWB for providing this venue). This is an amazing group of parents. Don't ever feel you can't ask a question. So many benefit from the questions of others.
  20. Let me just say that I am so blessed that you ladies share the juicy details -- which I love! Thank you so much for sharing the insider tips & tricks (when you could be correcting papers, folding laundry, dishes, etc) :) Those of us who are a few steps behind you (or a lot of steps) REALLY appreciate it!
