  1. Ds 13's schedule for 8th in the Fall.... Bible CD Alg 1 Lingua Latina Omnibus 1 (history/lit/theology) Intro to Logic Sentence Composing For Middle School Biology: Exploring Life (read only, no labs) Guitar
  2. We're not finishing the last 3 chapters of General Science --- and we're not sweatin' it :)
  3. Thanks Jenny. I ordered the book for $9.99 used and the CD-Rom for $9.99 new, from separate sellers. I hope it all arrives as promised in full working condition. Thanks gang for all your help.
  4. God spoke to me through a Steven Curtis Chapman song to confirm His plan for us to adopt a baby girl from China. We ended up bringing home another baby a year later. My heart is so sad for him and his beautiful family. Sweet Maria is in her Heavenly Father's Arms. I only hope and pray her brother can feel God's love and grace right now. Praying...
  5. Thanks, Michelle. We just disappeared to Maui for a couple weeks. Back in action now. You're sweet for asking :)
  6. I would give TT a second look. I've heard the Geo has lots of proofs, plenty for SAT prep. TT Geo does not have the "stigma" that their Alg series has. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. What would be the minimum number of labs a Bio class should have in order to receive the lab credit for transcript purposes? I already know that UofW in Seattle said virtual labs are acceptable. I should have asked the admissions officer "how many" labs were necessary. Thanks to all who chimed in on these questions regarding EL vs. Miller/Levine.
  8. She discouraged me from purchasing Exploring Life (Campbell) and said the Miller/Levine Bio text would be a better fit for homeschool. She said it would be hard to do either w/o access to sophisticated lab materials (which I don't own). She said EL was set up for schools who have special access to the interactive website. I'm looking for a Bio text that ds 13 can read/study over 2 years (8th/9th). I have the option to do Apologia through our local homeschool group -- but not for another year (local teacher really pushes Physical in 8th). Thoughts??? Thanks!
  9. We are deciding between male/female and color/pattern. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
  10. I've had the privilege of seeing a video of Drew reading in Latin w/ his darling daughter. He's a teddy bear! I know we'd be buds if he lived closer....
  11. Thanks Jenny. I have a Powell's here in Portland so I check their website frequently also. What made you choose EL?
  12. Alex, I read your question on the other Latin list. I'm looking forward to hearing how you're doing w/ your 8 year old student. I wish my hubby could help out w/ Latin (no complaints -- he does math w/ the kiddos). :) My kids are starting Lingua Latina w/ Mr. Spotts at the The Potters School online school next year. They will be 11 & 13. I'm nervous, but willing to give it a shot. Keep us posted.
  13. doing 4-day weeks. We're mainly doing math, writing & reading. History will be easy to sneak in since we all love history. No Latin since my dc's Fall teacher told me to lay off Latin for awhile (switching from grammar to reading method). It feels so good to slow down! I'm exhausted!! I just got back from a much-needed vacation w/ my family and I spent a lot of time thinking/praying about this last school year. It was great to take a step back and examine the year. Anyway, rambling to self here. I was just curious what everyone's plans are -- so I don't feel like I'm the only one putting things in a much lower gear... :auto:
  14. TT 5 is for 4th grade. Did you take the placement test?
  15. Nan, you are too funny! :) I was hesitating to respond before because I am the least qualified of anyone here to comment about Latin programs. Forgive me for being snarky (I've always wanted to use that word) in my last post. You are not wrong. I'll just shut up now... Happy Friday! Leaving for Maui on Monday!!!
  16. Nan, There is tons of grammar in LL. I just received my materials yesterday. If one follows the program as Oeberg has presented it, w/ all the components utilized and taught by a proficient teacher, grammar is taught -- and taught well. Will LL help w/ English grammar? -- maybe, but that is not our aim. As for history and Roman culture, those are taught through the story line of the text Familia Romana. Will students who use LL ace the NLE? Not w/out teaching "to the test" -- which is not my plan. As for Ecci, it does not receive the rave reviews that LL does. For public school circles, yes. But elite private classical schools mainly use LL -- if they adhere to the direct method. Please correct me if I'm wrong. After researching Latin programs ad nauseam over the last 8 months, I'm confident LL is the way to go for us. Its the only program I've heard about that students refer to as "fun" and they want to press on. Ecci never really crossed my radar. Again, Nan, I could be wrong. I have not seen Ecci in person or known anyone who uses it. For the price, I hope its good :)
  17. Thanks, Drew. Have you ever seen the Winnie The Pooh or Harry Potter books in Latin? Mr. Spotts told me to lay off Latin until his class starts -- but I just can't imagine it! I thought those books might be fun for the kiddos.
  18. You don't really need the student workbook because the TM has the questions and answers together. At least that is the way FMOR is done. FMOR is fantastic. Beautiful illustrations.
  19. Lit2Go on ItunesU under University of South Florida, School of Education. Lots of Aesop. And its free.
  20. Ds 12 will take this w/ the author in his new online class starting in the Fall. It covers Intro & Intermediate Logic in 1 school year. We'll tackle TL if we choose to after that. Check out Jim Nance's Logic Forum at http://www.LogosSchool.com.
  21. Susan, Will you have any new materials ready to sell at WHO in June? My visa is locked and loaded :) Will you address logic and/or rhetoric stage writing at any of your workshops? Thanks!!
