  1. That is so awesome to hear how your daughter is thriving at home. That's plenty of "school stuff" that you've chosen for now. Get those things going well, and I think you will be pleased with the progress she will continue to make. You can always add more later if you find you need it and fill in any holes. You don't want either one of you to get overwhelmed at the start. Take it easy! Oh, and we all have chosen programs that we didn't end up really liking for one reason or another. That is just part of it. Resell it and move on if that happens.
  2. Because of her age, I am wondering if she qualifies for taking her spousal benefits while letting her own grow until she turns 70? If she was born before January 2, 1954, she can file a restricted application. This would allow her own amount to grow another 24% per month.
  3. Yes, I forgot to add we always use a glass pyrex 9x13!
  4. I get so many oohs and aahs for the cheapo Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge, it's ridiculous. My daughter taught me to way overmix this. That has helped with the baking consistency. Throw in some semi sweet chocolate chips after overmixing. Also, we just use plain old vegetable oil. Could the oil type have an affect?
  5. I just played the SOTW audios. My girls enjoyed coloring the pictures in the activity guide while they listened to it. Sonlight 6th & 7th had some timeline stickers that went along with SOTW at the time. Not sure if they still do. But history was the one subject I never tested! In high school, they had to complete the reading, discuss the lessons, and do some writing for their grade.
  6. I've just started eating ground turkey again and my youngest is 21.
  7. Beth, I just wanted to respond and say be very careful not to believe a word of that prayer advice, the "pray in the right way" thing. It is a horrible lie.
  8. Rural Iowa - the phone company offers unlimited, but in my neighborhood that is down quite a bit in the summer. I have the cable option and I pay for 400 GB. Overage charges are $10 for every additional 50 GB. They have taken the limits off until May 15th for COVID.
  9. This is actually a good time to go in. My husband is a long-time car salesman. There are few people going in right now and all dealerships are looking to reduce inventory with the economic uncertainty. Coming out of the slower winter months, they all were just hitting the best time of the year (tax refund months) when the virus hit! So they're hungry for sales, and you are coming up on the end of a month. So it's the best inventory level for awhile and a great time to get a deal.
  10. No, we only ever had a problem like that in Geometry. You can call them for help; that's what I did. The teacher at MUS caught on to my disconnect very quickly and helped us to move on.
  11. Both my younger girls used MUS only - one Alpha through PreCalc and the other Alpha through Algebra 2. Both did very well with it and one continued with math in college. The only thing I wish I had done differently was that I stuck with a one level a year sequence. I wish we had continued with it mostly year round, so that we could have gotten through Calc.
  12. My sister died last week, my younger sister. After battling cancer for 7 1/2 years. I had only periodic contact with her the last 40 years. All I heard from her was how everyone hated her, how her job was horrible, her husband's family hated her, etc. At her funeral there was a slideshow. She had a good, typical life. Lots of happy, smiling pics. I don't know why everything always seemed so awful. She was focusing on the bad stuff and forgetting all the good, which was obviously the majority of her life. But she didn't want to die. She fought dying over and over again. She really should have died two years ago, but fought it. And my sister who was with her said she fought for her last breath. She just would not lie down and die even at the end. I'm proud of her.
  13. My daughter was home by 8:30 and her precinct had counted and sent in their figures with no problems. But her group all stayed for the whole thing. I noticed from the news that there were some larger groups where, when people found out their candidate wasn't viable, they just left. Since those first figures had to be reported this year, suddenly there were lots of new questions as to why the first round totals were different from the next rounds. A mess and an embarrassment for sure.
  14. We used the Rainbow specifically so that labs would get done, but I had two students working together, so it was fun for them. The first year was a great success so I paid all the money for the second year lab stuff. That did not go so well, but we had done so much biology previously. Many of the labs were similar to what I knew they would do in Apologia Biology, so we dropped it. It was definitely the labs that were the high point. If your daughter hates them, yes, move on!
  15. We went through Elegant Essay and also used parts of the IEW Advanced writing for College Prep (skipped the note-taking part). My two OYAN students continued to work on their novels and characters for multiple years, continued on their online forum, etc. There is a Year 2 - Other Worlds. They also both attended the summer workshops in Olathe, KS and then the winter workshops at 18. My oldest married a fellow OYANer, and my youngest still travels to meet up with her friends from there. I have two OYAN grandchildren!
  16. With my personality, being that vulnerable and then not receiving an answer would be way more drama for me than looking elsewhere for answers. If you know that you are one of the "whatever!" people (like my husband), then do it. But if it will wound you again in any way, I say steer clear.
  17. I would recommend any of the products at clearwaterpress.com. Two of my children used the One Year Adventure Novel curriculum and also became involved in the community that is offered through their forum, webinars, and writing workshops. We have also gotten to know the Schwabauers personally, and they are awesome people.
  18. If he does retake it, make sure he waits 5 minutes after sitting down at the machine. He should have an empty bladder and feet flat on the floor. That will give a more accurate reading.
  19. I don't know why so high, but I have seen that too. I use the Sundown or Sundance B-Complex 100%. I have used this product for many years. My local grocery sells it, but I see it is on Amazon, too.
  20. When I took Botany in college, we worked with spiderwort/wandering jew. The class was only a month long, so we needed something that grew and changed quickly. It is very easy to propagate and likes indirect light. I don't remembering mine having flowers, but I guess it does that, too. At his age he might enjoy something like this that grows quickly, can easily be pinched back and the pieces used to start new plants to give away. You may even know someone with that plant that is willing to give you a few cuttings. It will be started by Christmas for sure.
  21. My husband loves his Galaxy Tab. I love my iPad. He does way more with his tablet than I do. I mostly play games, check email, etc. He types up his sermons and watches movies. I have never used a keyboard with mine at all. I think, since you know that the apps you want are available on both, it is mostly personal preference then. But I do know that my husband likes having the microSD storage available on the Tab, too. Perhaps that would allow you to download more in the way of movies for your trips?
  22. We shopped almost exclusively at Target when my girls were that age. Easy returns, too, if you are not local. I have found myself back there for my 7-month-old granddaughter. I have shopped at Kohl's, Walmart, and other stores, but I enjoy the selection/experience at Target the best.
  23. I am fortunate that one of my daughters loves doing this and has kept it going. She has found an opportunity to get a photo of at least some of us each year. We do still have many older friends that are not online at all, so they appreciate getting the photo. We hand them out to people at our church. We receive very few in return. Once she moves on, that will be the end of it for us. But my oldest is a missionary and we get to send out their end-of-the-year letters, so I will be involved in a Christmas mailing of some type for awhile.
  24. I wondered the same thing after having improvement in the pain in my hands years ago. I eventually stopped taking it and that same pain returned. While it had given me almost instant relief the first time I took it, restarting it meant many months before it was effective again. I have lots of other pains, but not the ache in my hands, so I keep on it. 🙂
  25. I know! They sent me a $10 coupon for my birthday, the recent flyer had $5 off anything and a 30% off coupon. I got a blouse for $2.58.
