I need some good 45 min. - 1 hr. shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime

After 6 weeks of being in limbo, we are finally moving into our new house next week and I am excited to get back into a regular exercise routine again. My favorite thing is to watch a good series while on the rowing machine - it makes the time fly by and makes me look forward to exercising. Last year, I watched all the seasons of Downton Abbey and lost about 7 pounds while watching it.

What are some other series that you have enjoyed? I love a good British period drama, but also love shows like Parks & Rec, and White Collar.

So glad you like the Brits too.

The IT Crowd

Broadchurch (esp. season 1, but never, ever Gracepoint)

Doc  Martin

Sherlock

Jealous of your losing weight while watching Downton Abbey. I'm re-watching on PBS and don't have a rowing machine.

Oh, and The Grinder. Can be a bit blue but watching Rob Lowe lampoon Hollywood is priceless. And Fred Savage slays me in this show!!! I had only seen him in The Princess Bride before this show.

Watching this thread for ideas. I watch shows on the treadmill, and it keeps me going.

I just started Emma on Prime. Only one episode in, so not much to say yet.

I loved most of the shows already mentioned. And Outlander - I watched that on the treadmill, too.

I also watch cheesy, shoot em up sci fi on the treadmill. Embarrassing, but true.

Can I ask what kind of rowing machine you have? I've been eyeing them...

Thanks everyone for these great suggestions - I'm excited to get back into a regular exercise routine again and these will really help!

I have a Concept 2 rowing machine. I saved for nearly 2 years to buy it, and absolutely love it. It's relatively quiet, works arms, legs, and core if you're doing it right, and burns a ton of calories.

I just started watching Turn and have enjoyed it so far.

We watched Turn during its first run and really enjoyed it. It just ended not long ago, and I was a bit bummed. That's when I discovered Downton Abbey and also the beauty of watching shows once they're over...when all episodes are right there waiting and I can watch as many as I can in a week, or day. 😆

So, I am on Netflix Canada, but most of these should be on both:

I've just finished the two seasons of The Last Kingdom, based on the novels, and really enjoyed it.  It took me about two episodes to be sure though.

I've also been rewatching Poirot with my kids who haven't seen it before - it's well worth it.

Broadchurch

House of Cards Trilogy (the British one)

Last Tango in Halifax (This was interesting, though by the end I had odd feelings about it.  Not bad - it was well done, but I felt that it was a lot darker than I had originally supposed.)

Luther (sometimes over the top, but I'd watch Idris Elba wash his socks.)

The Bletchley Circle

The Bridge

Wallander

Wentworth (prison drama, sometimes might be intense for some)

Death in Paradise on Netflix. It's a police show but it's fun, not at all dark. One of the actors described it as a cross between Colombo and Scooby-Doo and said the reason people like it is it's a caper and everyone loves a caper. :)

Netflix has 5 seasons. As far as I can tell Season 6 is only available for sale on Amazon, not on Prime yet.

Thank you! If you have tips re: models, etc, I'd love to hear. I love hearing that it's not loud. :)
