I had a bit of a panic attack thinking I'd been using this wrong all this time, so I had to look this up — and apparently it really is meant to be "folded hands," not high five: 

"Two hands placed firmly together, meaning please or thank you in Japanese culture. A common alternative use for this emoji is for prayer, using the same gesture as praying hands. Idk, bit when I search high five in my emojis, this is what comes up.
