My daughter is getting married in October in a small town church and the reception is at her in-law's barn. The wedding style is country casual.

I picked out my clothes, but daughter is really fussing about it being too much and she says she doesn't like the colors. What do you all think?

ETA: You're all invited to the wedding, so let me know what you'll be wearing and doing.

You carried one of these adults for 9 months, went through labor and deliver, sleepless nights, blowout diapers, teething, potty training, vegetable battles, tween tears, teen nightmares, and finally. Here you are. Your payoff. YOU made them the lovable person they are today. YOU gave them the skills to attract someone. YOU helped them navigate life up to this point.

This day isn't about them: it's about your accomplishment.

So to your dress I say: Sparkle in your success!  #ifyouvegotitflauntit

But bring a fur wrap. Barn in October may get chilly.

I *LOVE* that dress! It is the perfect way to send your cosmetic surgeon more business! Maybe he’ll even give you a discount on future lip injections due to all the business you send his way!
One caveat: make certain your plunge is at least as low as MoG’s. Also, be certain to get high-quality pasties that will stand up to sweaty Virginia summer weather.

Thanks the reminder.  Which one?

I would go with #2

... but I actually wore something recently that I think would match your hat better: https://www.amazon.com/Ophestin-Sleeve-Shaggy-Jacket-Outwear/dp/B07JR4GQR5/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=pink+fur&qid=1612129142&sr=8-2

The event was actually a funeral. The color pops better with black than your dress, but I think it'll still work.

But what KIND of dancing will happen at this event?

One of my favorites was a step-mother who bought the exact dress as the MoB, and refused to not wear it to the wedding.

MoB said fine, and bought another one.     MoB then wore her dress matching step-mom's to the rehearsal dinner the night before.  (and had a brand new dress for the day.)

Good point.  That silver dress definitely needs a more color pops throughout, and a little fascinator hat just won't be enough.   Maybe I could find some bright pink shoes too to tie it all together.

You need to up the hat.  Maybe something like Princess Beatrice's fascinator she wore to William and Kates wedding.

I hope you’re bringing your own red carpet. No one wearing that dress should sully their shoe soles with barn hay. The very thought is beyond!

Very practical.  And since at 5'1" I'll be wearing some stilettos to gain a few inches, I'll need some carpet under my feet to keep the heels from aerating the fields as I walk.

Absolutely, but of course the undercoat should be bright pink for another pop of color.

Don't you get to pick the MoG's dress, I mean she's much less important.

Target has some good choices for her.  https://totallythebomb.com/photo-shoot-in-the-target-prairie-dress

Nothing says Country Casual to me more than #3: blood-red velvet Renaissance cloak lined with black silk. I don't think you can go wrong with that one, no matter what dress you choose.

It IS a timeless classic. Just think how all the light from the candles in mason jars will reflect on that beautiful velvet.

So true!

...and, if they happen to have turkey legs for appetizers (which I highly recommend), the Renaissance/Country merge will be complete!

Of course he’ll need a matching ten gallon with pheasant feathers. Probably some ostrich boots to complete the ensemble.

He was thinking more a hockey stick magic staff and blasting rod, but I bet it would be even more excellent if he combined the two looks into one.

I think we should renew our vows in the middle of daughter’s wedding as part of the ceremony.  (My middle brother’s in-laws actually did this. ) Husband’s tastes are a little more bland than mine.  Which combo do you prefer from each of these that I absolutely love?

Husband’s coat options

Okay, I legitimately do love coats 1 and 2!  Can I convince my husband to get and wear one, even for non wedding occasions?

What kind of non-wedding occasions do you have in mind?

Driveway shoveling?  Church?  Neighborhood walks?  Maybe someday live grocery shopping?  I mean, it's not like we have all that many occasions these days for formalwear.

I think I'm going with something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/617478816/elven-dress-lord-of-the-rings-dress?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=galadriel+dress&ref=sr_gallery-1-3&cns=1

Barn, country-casual - that sounds nature-themed to me.  And who's more in touch with nature than Tolkien's elves, right?

But, of course, white *is* the color for a wedding, so maybe this would be a better choice: https://www.etsy.com/listing/734823103/lady-galadriel-lord-of-the-rings-white?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=galadriel+dress&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&cns=1

Do your in-laws have any pets? Dont worry, I'll keep an eye on them during the reception. https://www.amazon.com/Dreamgirl-Womens-Dalmatian-Black-White/dp/B071YHBYLP/ref=mp_s_a_1_7_mod_primary_new?dchild=1&keywords=Cruella+DeVille+Fancy+Dress+costume&qid=1612133392&s=apparel&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sr=1-7

What do you think of this choice? It works for MoB *or* wedding guest. I could re-wear it to my niece’s wedding a month after dd’s. It has that cutaway neck that I like.
Also, I’m sure there is no photoshopping going on in this photo and her measurements are actually 42x19x48.

Apparently "it's perfect for transitioning between seasons"🤣

Exactly. I have just cleaned up the browsing history, and can't look at the last few links. By the way, if I come to the wedding, I'm just going to wear jeans. I mean, come on, it's in a BARN!

I have heard of this happening many times, and witnessed it myself once.

MoG ended up with a very similar dress to mine (completely different color).  I laughed - I also knew how hard it was to find something.  She did mention how hard it was to find something.

Thanks for the invite. Yes, dh and I will be there.

Would your dd mind awfully much if we also renew our vows during her wedding? As long as you're paying for all the food, decor, and facilities, and have a preacher and photographer booked, it wouldn't be much of an inconvenience to add five minutes at the end, right? We'd also pitch in a $20 to help cover some of the cost.

Thanks ever so much!
