zaichiki
Older ds does FIRST Robotics and the theme this year has a Steampunk flavor. Younger ds, ever the older bro admirer, just read the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfield. I'm looking to find him another book or series in the genre. Can you recommend one your kid(s) loved? Lecka
I was going to say I loved that book, too! I check sometimes to see if Book 2 is out. The only other steampunk I have read is The Scar by China Mieville, which I liked a lot, but I think is a much more adult book. I am not sure, it is has been years since I have read it. Oh, and I did read a book more recently called The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi, which I thought was great, but it is definitely much more adult, but seeing that the ages are 14 and 17 -- I think it is possible. The two I mention are books I liked as an adult, my kids are younger still. Edited January 30, 2017 by Lecka
PrincessMommy
I read the first book in the "Invisible Library" series and that has a bit of a Steampunk feel.
obsidian
The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson is quite good.
PrincessMommy
DS really liked The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher, the first book in a new steampunk series. I like Jim Butcher's writing. I've been slowly making my way through the "Harry Dresden Files" series.
Spryte
The Golden Compass, I'm told, has a steampunk feel. Checking out the other books mentioned, I have a 13 yr old steampunk aficionado.
Chelli
The Expeditioners is a steampunk series my oldest daughter really enjoyed. She's waiting on the third book to be released.
Tanaqui
Well, you can't go wrong with Lev - oh, nevermind, already read that. Okay, well, try Airborn by Kenneth Oppel.
Laura Corin
My boys liked the Mortal Engines series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Engines

Aras
I really liked Stephen Hunt's Jackelian series. Start with The Court of the Air. https://www.amazon.com/Court-Air-Jackelian-World/dp/0765360225/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485794727&sr=8-1&keywords=the+court+of+the+air
Crimson Wife
For older teens/adults (there is some non-graphic s*xual content), I really liked Jay Kristoff's Lotus War series. Japanese steampunk meets YA dystopian with a strong heroine.
zaichiki
This is for the 11 year old. He reads fairly mature (for his age) themes, though no s*xual content, please. Ds would prefer a series (the trilogy was a good start) to a single book, but he wouldn't rule out a book just because it was stand-alone. I will check out these suggestions. Thanks for the head start on the search! I appreciate it!
Lostinabook
My daughter loved The Peculiar by Stefan Bachmann. There's a sequel, The Whatnot, but I don't think she liked that one as much.
Terabith
I like Jim Butcher's writing. I've been slowly making my way through the "Harry Dresden Files" series. Every time someone mentions parkour, I mentally think of Harry leaping over VW Beatles and yelling, "PARKOUR!"
