Pegasus
It took me months to figure out why I was getting mysterious stomach pains. I had changed my diet drastically and thought I was on the right track with healthier eating. Part of my routine was having 1/4 of an avocado every morning with my breakfast. I would sometimes have another 1/4 at either lunch or dinner. Several months after eating this way, I started getting stomach pains. I tried lots of different things, like not drinking coffee, avoiding artificial sweeteners, etc. but never could make a clear determination of what was causing the stomach pain. Then one day, rather randomly, I ran across a blog post where someone described their stomach pain and how they determined it was caused by the avocados they were eating. Wow, I thought, could my problem really be this simple? As soon as I stopped eating avocados, my stomach pain stopped. *whew* If you google "avocado stomach pain" you will find lots of information about this phenomenon. However, I wanted to post and share it here because I never would have associated the two if I hadn't run across the blog post. Hoping this ends up helping someone else.

texasmama
I think avocados were triggering migraines for me so I have given them up. For such a healthy food, they cause issues for some folks!
Catwoman
Wow -- I had no idea! I guess maybe it's a good thing that I hate avocados! :) Thanks for posting the info; you may very well have helped someone else who is having mystery pains. Guest
It's a green, smushy food. Of course it shouldn't be eaten.
ThisIsTheDay
My son developed this reaction in the past couple of years. It's new for him. He's grown up eating avocados like most people eat bananas, but not anymore.
sgo95
Me, too! This only started a few years ago. A little avocado in a California roll is ok, but more than that makes me sick to my stomach, to the point that I have to throw it up (sorry for tmi) and then I feel better right away. Barb_
My daughter has stomach pain and nausea as a symptom of her chocolate allergy.
Amy in NH
According to this website, the two types of avocado allergy are 1) oral allergy syndrome connected to birch pollen and 2) allergies connected to latex allergy. The latex allergy is the one associated with nausea and vomiting, but can include anaphylaxis. It may be a good idea to check out whatever else is related to latex allergy if you're having these symptoms!
momto10blessings
I've noticed my stomach hurts when I eat too much guacamole. I don't eat big amounts of plain avocado though.
Pegasus
It's a green, smushy food. Of course it shouldn't be eaten. This made me laugh. I actually really like avocado. I've found I can eat a very small amount occasionally and avoid symptoms. It just can't be a daily part of my regular diet.
Ann.without.an.e
I went through a period of about ten years when even a tsp of avocado would cause the worst vomiting spell ever. It was horrible. For some reason I can now eat it again. Go figure.
MercyA
I think avocados were triggering migraines for me so I have given them up. For such a healthy food, they cause issues for some folks! Some theorize that this is because avocados are high in histamine. High-histamine foods can cause migraines.
GailV
I think most foods cause problems with someone or other. Most people in our family have something they need to avoid for reasons most people wouldn't think of -- for example, chamomile makes Dh jittery (due to tannins, apparently). Various things that go into "healthy" smoothies, like coconut milk, make my heart race. BIL cannot tolerate oregano. God for OP for figuring it out, though! You really have to be willing to reject the mindset that certain foods are so healthy that "everyone" should eat them!
Jane Elliot
Thanks for posting this. I figured out avocados were a big part of my recurring belly pain a few months ago when my sister told me about FODMAPs. Learning more about FODMAPs and paying attention to this list has helped me a lot. Edited December 23, 2015 by Snowdrop
