But I thought I got the wrong answer.  But that’s ok. We can talk about something else now because I don’t like math. I was just pushing the issue because I thought I did it right, then I read everyone else’s answer and thought I did it wrong and wanted to know why.... but now i’m Even more confused, so..... i’m Just gonna pour myself a big mug of COFFEE~D and go tackle my closet and hope Ellie drops by.

You got it right and did it very well.  ?

We keep our Christmas decorations under the basement stairs.  Other holiday decorations are in there, too, but Christmas makes up about 90 percent of it.  We have one large tree, one medium tree, a blue baby tree, garland, lights, at least 3 rubbermaid boxes of ornaments. jingle bell wreaths for each front window, an inflatable for the front yard, miscellaneous other decorations.

It's a lot, but as long as it all fits in the space under the stairs we're good.  If we get new items we may have to get rid of some older ones.

ETA:  I forgot that I also have a Christmas village. :)

I showered the goat.  I am now in my funeral best.  Even though the invitation to this said business casual, I have absolutely nothing between my Mom PJ uniform and this.  So this is it.  This exclusive club will not allow anyone in dressed below their standards anyway.  And with that in mind could you pray that I get in?  I just found out that there was an RSVP list.  And since I was invited second hand (because I had lost contact with most people from the company) I did not RSVP.  Also pray that I am safe?  I have to walk past some pretty infamous homeless encampments to get to where I'm going.  I'm not super nervous about that population since I've worked with them in the past for years, but I also know first hand that it is an unpredictable and unstable population.

I see y'all moved on to children's books, but I like the math problem better.  I got n = 8/3

I cross multiplied and then multiplied both sides by 6 to get rid of the fractions which resulted in 56 = 21n, etc.

I got n = 2 2/3 ?

1/3 divided by 7/2 is 1/3 times the reciprocal or 1/3*2/7 which is 2/21.

so 2/21 = n/28

Multiply both sides by 28 to isolate the variable

56/21=n

8/3=n

2 2/3=n because the problem started with mixed numbers ?

I think my pink pearl erasers hooked up and had babies this past school year because I have bazillions of them tucked into every corner.  My snooty Staedtler pencil sharpeners have all packed up camp and fled.  I buy a few twice a year and I can only two right now out of the dozen or so I've purchased over the last several years. After buying two dozen watercolor palettes (prang professional) for $1 several years ago, I'm down to my last palette.  I'm making my list and checking it twice---it's almost my favorite time of year--back to school supply season!

What's on your shopping list this year?

I don't know, we need a new pencil sharpener, a few spiral notebooks, a few things that I can't remember right now

Stepping away from math for a minute, lol.  There's a thread on the chat board about how to store holiday decorations (etc) if you don't have a shed, attic, etc.

I don't want to hijack her thread with my unfelpful ramblings accompanied by a touch of drool down the chin.  I just want to tell you guys that we don't store stuff in the shed or the attic.  There are some Christmas decorations in the basement (barely a step up from the garage) or the garage, but I HATE (hate with the passion of a thousand suns) the day that anything re-enters my house after it has been in the garage or basement.  (And trust me, my house isn't that clean).  But I really feel like once it's been in either of those places it is contaminated and may not re-enter my realm.  Also, I would be good with never owning any decorations or anything that was not used a significant percentage of the time.  You may come pull my feminine homemaking card anytime you like.

Yes, all the things, except for the card thing.

We don't have an attic or a basement or a shed! And they took half our closet! Poor me.

I don’t know many people who do. At least here in California. When I was growing up we had a crawl-space under our house and I thought that was a basement. Imagine my surprise when I learned that people had whole rooms under their houses.

I know!

I'm supposed to dust decorations?  We keep our Christmas decorations in a couple of boxes in the under the stairs closet.

While they're out. I used to dust once a week (cat allergies) and Christmas decorations were out the weekend after thanksgiving to the weekend after New Year, so 5 dustings.

Two other business dudes: *show up early for appointment* (but hey, at least they weren't late), bring very interesting looking product, spend an hour making estimate and selling DH on it, get very pushy for commitment today and ask multiple times what form of payment we want to use*

Me, tired of hearing it: *walks into dining room and sits at table with them* Hi, I'm Whitehawk, and I'll be playing the role of bad cop this evening...

Me, two minutes later: *escorts dudes to door, hands back product sample, and thanks them for their time*

We want the product but feel like we should wait at least a couple of weeks before calling back just because we don't like the salespeople. ?

What did they think about the fact that your name is Whitehawk?

That is too funny!  Yesterday I had a salesperson at a kiosk get mad at me because I wouldn't buy a $70 nail kit that I probably wouldn't use, she thought reducing it to $29 would be too much temptation for me, she was wrong.

We have Christmas stuff in the basement storage room which I had just recently put everything on shelves or in plastic bins. If I hadn't done that, we wouldn't have any Christmas decorations because of the flooding, so that's fortunate or unfortunate depending on my mood. I'm known for not decorating for anything because it's just not my thing. Consequently, I probably have the biggest pile of holiday decorations of any of you all because people think since I don't decorate that I need decorating stuff!! So I have tons that almost never gets used because lazy. Now that the kids are older they will sometimes pull it out but I make them put it away if they get it out because I don't want to mess with it.

It's a running joke in my family...what will my parents, MIL, brother, other ILs, friends get me for birthday/Christmas?? Christmas decorations. Guaranteed.

In the past we have stored stuff in the garage. I don't care. A good wet wipe can take care of anything.

So we have this doggie doorbell http://pebblesmart.com/

You train dogs to use it by putting a dog treat behind the bell.  I couldn't figure out why Juliet had suddenly stopped using it until I realized that the treat was no longer in it's spot.  So I put a new treat in there.  Now she's ringing the doorbell constantly again!  (I like it best when she uses it consistently for when she really needs to go out.)

How long have you had the doorbell? We had doorbells for my dog and she was good with it but the doorbells keep breaking. We didn't want an actual bell because we wanted something louder. Are you happy with it? Doggy needs a new doorbell because hoping she finds someone when she needs to go is not a great plan.

I am a terrible person. I turned my phone off because my sil said she was going to call me and discuss why we shouldn’t get solar. Because I posted on FB that we wanted to get solar and was looking for recs. I don’t want to talk to her and find out why all solar companies are scams.

You should say in your sweetest voice," arent you glad we're not using your money but our own to pay for it."  J/k, but I'd sure love to see her face if you actually did.

What’s a Slow Jam?? You lead the most interesting life, Susan!

It's an Old Time music jam, for beginners.  So there are the traditional instruments - guitars, banjo, mandolin, fiddles, etc, with a few other instruments in the mix (like ukulele and cello) 'cause they are friendly and welcome everyone.  And we go around and each person gets to pick a song they know and everyone tries to learn it if they don't know it already.  Mistakes are expected, and they don't mind if you just sit and hum along.

You know, I just need to tackle my closet today. I cannot even deal with all the carp piled up in it, I don’t know what to do with it.  The term, “A place for everything and everything in its place” ..... it’s just lost on me. Sometimes I wonder if I just quickly threw it all in a trash bag and ran it out to the curb if it would matter at all. Does anything really matter??

I ask myself this question frequently.  We did, however, manage to clean up the sewing table and scary fabric box corner today.

Have you seen the meme "I'm sorry I missed your call. I was sitting on the couch watching it ring."

If anyone suggests that we store something in the garage (aka "the pit of despair"), I tell them to just throw it out, because that's what will happen to it eventually anyway.  We do store some things in the attic, but dh has to deal with those things because I don't do attics.  Our (walkout) basement is finished living space, so we can store things there if necessary - that's where my "pantry" is located.

Here’s the good, the bad, the ugly.

The good:  the drive into the Big City went surprisingly smoothly.

I met my friend just as I reached the hoity toity club so we were able to go in together.

My clothes fit the occasion just fine.

It was a nice cocktail party type atmosphere with the same nice but light conversation. I was able to recognize some people from when I worked with them 25 plus years ago.

I was able to eat some of the hors d’oeurves.

The bad:  there were no chairs set out.

The ugly:  after an hour or so my feet were in so much pain that I almost couldn’t stand it. I excused myself and left a bit earlier than planned.

I managed to hobble back to the the parking garage where I left my car to find it locked with my car inside. The information online on hours was not the same as what was posted on the wall. Fortunately I was able to call a nice security guard who let me and my car out. There were still some cars in there when I left so he might have had a busy night.

My DDs (14) and DS (16) also come back from camp today. It will be nice to have them all home, but in some ways it’s felt like a vacation. I haven’t done so few dishes, cooked so little, or had food last so long in I can’t remember how long!

Baby didn't want to sleep last night until after 4am and only then if he stayed with me. He woke me up this morning at 7 by falling off the bed! He's fine and obviously didn't learn his lesson because as soon as he calmed down he tried to do it again. So, I want all the coffee. But I don't because he'll probably nap soon, and then I'll be awake. But what if he doesn't? Then I need the coffee! It's a dilemma.

Now Baby really has to learn to sleep in his bed or we'll have to rearrange our room into some kind of advanced baby proofing way. I wish he would take a paci or thumb but he only wants me.

Good morning! DS13 comes home from mission trip today!

DD11 is really practicing her sass skills recently. This conversation happened this morning on the ride over to VBS...

Me: Yesterday I came out of the supermarket and there was a twin of my car parked right next to mine. I couldn't tell which was mine for a minute!
DD11: Yours was the messy one.

Thanks, kid. Love you too.
