Time for bed.  One child has fresh, clean bedding tonight.  Perhaps tomorrow the other child will be that lucky. (if I can find her bed under the ever-growing pile of stuffed animals.  Seriously -- it has gotten worse after I moved in more shelving so she could store all of her critters.  It turns out now she can get to them all more easily.)

Each to their own. I happen to have available waterfalls and non-available Legos. We all create childhood magic in the ways that work for us.

Very true, and Legos, while fun, just aren't as magical here without the cousins to play with.

Did you get the server's name? If/when you can afford to go back you can ask for him/her! If you haven't thought of it already it might also be nice to call the management and let them know how much you appreciated the service and accommodations. Management always like to hear good things about their staff and place.

Grace

I told the manager on the way out.

Dh was so kind to take my place for set committee today, and was rewarded with a flat tire on the way there. Yay! Another $200 to put into this car that we've had for, what, 3 weeks now? Of course, now that our new insurance company is saving us 1/3 on our auto/home insurance and will allow us to make monthly payments, we don't have to sell our children to get the major repairs done. Which is good because now smoke is coming out of the hood if you put the air conditioner on. 🙀

Good grief. When will the vehicle tribulations end?

Thank you for the hugs and chocolates. I am feeling better.

Dh is home; just as he got downtown, a police officer arrived and a couple valet guys from across the street all jumped in to help push the car to a parking lot. They said this happens every night, and had a reliable tow company to call. The lot attendant said we could leave the car there until tomorrow afternoon, and also had a battery jumping thing to see if it was just the battery. They are pretty sure it's the alternator, which dh can replace himself, so it shouldn't be too expensive to fix. Ds said he can manage without the car for a few days, and both his roommates have their cars and will give him rides if the shuttle is not available.

Funny story. Ds's roommate says she is pretty sure there is a curse on all the symphony concerts she attends (or attempts to attend). Recently there was a farting epidemic during the concert. Loud and from multiple directions. She thought they might have to evacuate. The next time, a man had to be taken out on a stretcher because he choked on a muffin. (Who eats a muffin during a concert?). Then the alternator dies just a couple blocks from the concert hall and they get stuck in the middle of the parkway.

What workouts are y'all doing? Books? What else?

I'm mostly making my steps daily. I've been sick off and on, missed a couple of days of work in the past couple of weeks. I keep wanting to start P90x3, but haven't. I have the calendar of workouts printed though. :D Books? Um, I'm reading Destinos, the Faculty Guide, and building the high school class page as we go. Does that count?

:grouphug: To those who need them.

Sorry to hear about your FIL, Slache. Wishing him a great outcome with surgery and speedy rehabilitation.

I did another critique. The paper is bleeding. This guy deserves it. :D I'll be nicer in print. (No, it's not the teen writer--I would be all sweetness and chocolate with that one. This guy likes to bark at me, and gives bad advice. He asked to have his work ripped up, and I have done so.)

In the end, the teen is going to stay??

Hey!  We are home from a Piano Guys concert tonight!!!  It was GREAT!!!!!  We had discounted tickets which was also great.  They had 8 kids from our local youth orchestra join them on one song; one was a friend of ours (they had to try out to get chosen.)  It was totally fantastic to see her (and them) on stage with them.  Really touching.  The guys were really funny too.  And encouraging to music students (and their parents, lol).  And just all around great!

I'm drive by checking in too.

We went camping last night. I attempted sleep in 90F weather with 96% humidity on a slab of granite covered by an inch of sleeping bag fluff. Every body, their dog, and a wild raccoon came by our tent at some point---the peoples had bright flashlights on their long trek to the public bathroom. After the people quieted down, the critters and the rain began. All of us sat up staring at each other and trying not to cry for many hours. It was bad. We came home, and I slept for six hours straight.

My garage and house are now full of drying tents and bags and gear.  I'm hoping to dig out by Monday.

(((Slache's FIL))) Seriously, maybe the break from her is good. She can stay camping for a while, right?

((Vehicles)) ((Hurting people))

Ds has stopped playing with his Star Wars legos. I am more than a little sad.

Good morning!

Love the pictures, Renai!! Such beautiful girls!

I have to drive the donut-tire car to church today so dh can drive dd13 and ds11 to another church with the van to sing with their children's choir. (Our church is only 5 minutes away vs other church that is 20 minutes away.) I would skip it entirely but I have nursery duty.

Prairie, your camping story makes me want to cry. A night like that feels like 3 weeks!

Hope everyone is now sleeping!

The Prodigal Troll, by Charles Finlay.

I've no idea if it will be any good or not. I just remember being very struck by the descriptive elements at the time I read the excerpt.

It's pretty cheap on Amazon so I put a copy in my cart there.  Thanks!

So glad there was help to hand who knew a good, considerate towing company.  Good roommates, too.  Pretty funny about the jinxed concerts.

The migraines have been Much Better, although I do still get them occasionally.  (Like yesterday.   :glare: )

The trip would have been virtually cost-free* for me and the girls.  If dh had gone along we would have had to pay for his airfare which is So Expensive.

*Cost-free for us.  Stanford was going to be footing most of the bill as dd8 and dd6 were going to be participating in a medical study.

Okay, I'll be contacting our local music venue to request these guys be brought in, too.  I just visited their website, and the cover art shown already has me sold (Indiana Jones, my favorite!)!

I think I also listened to some YouTube stuff of theirs a few months back.  I wanna see these guys live.

I'm glad you survived and got some sleep.  We will have to see what sort of impression this has made on your DS a few months down the line.

My very first camping trip ever (Minnesota, in the wintertime!) I frostbit my toes, ruined a teacher's mittens, kept getting woken up the first night by a teacher trying to keep another girl from rolling too close to the fire pit, and had to spend the bulk of the trip sitting in my sleeping bag next to the fire pit reading a book.  Yet I was the first one to raise my hand when they asked who wanted to go again.  No, I wasn't miserable.  Yes, I had fun.  Yes, I want to go again -- I know what to do differently now.
