Jean in Newcastle
And don't say "read them"! The library has e-books and it has a button for downloading. Do you just keep it in a tab on your computer and read it? Do you print it out and read it? I like real books. I'm grumpy that this book I want to read only comes in e-book form. kewb
I use my Kindle. I definitely prefer an actual book but sometimes I have to use my Kindle
Amira
Printing it would totally defeat the purpose for me, and I won't read them on my computer. You really need some sort of device to read ebooks comfortably. The cheapest Kindles are $49 right now. I love real books, but I don't feel like I lose anything vital by reading ebooks. And library ebooks are amazing, especially in places where they have good collections (like your library should, Jean). It's so nice to get new books anytime just by downloading them and you never, ever can have a fine.

Pawz4me
Usually you would download an e-book to a Kindle, Nook or other e-reader, or to a smartphone or tablet. I have heard of people reading e-books on their desktops or laptops, but I don't think that's common.
katilac
I read on my laptop pretty often - it's what I usually have closest to me. I don't think it would even be possible to print it out.
Kareni
What Do you do with E-books And don't say "read them"! It appears that I simply collect them for my Kindle. Obviously this doesn't work with library e-books which need to be returned within a given time frame; however, free e-books abound. I think that the time collecting them has taken over the time I would normally read. I have over (cough, cough) a thousand free Kindle books awaiting my attention. Regards, Kareni

Regards, Kareni That's one area that the Kindle Fire has an edge over a regular Kindle - it is much easier to scroll through the books and see what you have. The book covers are shown on a virtual shelf, and it's more like you are flipping through actual books to select one, rather than reading a list of titles. Luckily, we have both devices, so I can browse on one and read on the other!

Word Nerd
I have heard of people reading e-books on their desktops or laptops, but I don't think that's common. I don't get why anyone would want to. It just seems like the wrong format for an ebook. I read a lot of other content on my laptop or desktop, though, so it isn't really logical for me to be so opposed to reading a book on one. Miss Tick
Jean, I was in the same, somewhat grumpy situation not long ago and was pleasantly surprised at how very readable the book was on my tiny smartphone.

Dmmetler
IPad or DD's kindle. I plan to get DH one for Christmas because he likes sci fi anthologies and a lot of them are available for .99 each. It doesn't take many $7.99 paperback/.99 kindle versions to make up the difference. And I love library e-books.

I believe your library uses Overdrive I download the book and read it in Overdrive on my phone. It saves where i last was, etc. Not sure if they have a front end for the computer -- I imagne they do though

MeAndTheBoys
Our library loans Kindles--just a thought, to see if your library does that too. That would be the best way to read it (other than buying a cheap Kindle or Tablet). My boys have bought $50 Android tablets from Walmart and put the Kindle app on it and that is a good compromise--like a Kindle fire for 15% of the price----B
