Phew! How exciting! Is Calvin excited or just overwhelmed and scared? Hopefully, the confidence they are placing in him will help him with the stress and keep him from being so scared he does something stupid and sour-grapes-like like deciding that if he deliberately fails or fails by not trying his hardest, it isn't really failing. Judging by my own experience with children who want (and need) one particular college or program (much lower down the ladder, though : ) ), it might be worth making sure he remembers about that trap so he can try to avoid it. It might also be worth avoiding family parties with runny, smeary toddlers present and reminding him to drink his orange juice and get outdoors occasionally. Sending applying, focusing, and healthy thoughts your way! Best of luck!

He's pretty happy.  As with many bright kids, he's not always been the best at actually applying himself to hard work in subjects that he doesn't enjoy (maths, biology and French at present).  But he definitely is finding the prospect of Oxford to be a productive goal.  He has 'mock' (practice) exams in a couple of weeks, and he's getting down to work for those.

He deals pretty well with stress.  He took his first high school level exam at this exam centre when he was eleven and flew through it, so he doesn't intimidate easily.

LOL Ah yes.  I see what you mean.  That is indeed an imposing building!  That earlier experience will stand him in good stead, I'm sure.

It sounds like he is very level-headed about this.  That is wonderful!  You must be so happy for him!

Best of luck to him in those exams.
