itsheresomewhere
I had a very cute conversation with someone today who wanted to know if we would have a class pet in our new room. So now I am curious, do you have one? Not that we need another animal in our zoo.
BridgeTea
Yes. A cat that lays on any open book. If you are reading it, she wants to sleep on it. :glare: I have an aquarium that needs a critter of some sort. We are considering some hermit crabs. Nakia
Yes, we have 4 cats, 2 dogs, and one snake in our "classroom."
zaichiki
We have a cockatiel who provides background music for any quiet activity and a dog who likes to bark loudly whenever I'm trying to read aloud (apparently that's when the squirrels and leaves move about in our yard). itsheresomewhere
We have a cockatiel who provides background music for any quiet activity and a dog who likes to bark loudly whenever I'm trying to read aloud (apparently that's when the squirrels and leaves move about in our yard). You must own one of my dogs twin. She barks at the trees in the front yard, a leaf or squirrel.
JudoMom
Our two guinea pigs reside in the school room. The six hamsters are upstairs. The puppy sticks with us (he had his first day of school today--that's him in my signature standing on the school table). When we had a salamander, he lived in the playroom, which attaches to the school room.
elegantlion
Just the dog and the cat. We have a stuffed wolf (like toy stuffed) that sits on a chair in the classroom.
kewb
The dog wanders around the classroom from time to time.
GoVanGogh
Currently we have two cats, three hermit crabs, one tortoise and a tank full of fish. In the past we have had crayfish, a red ear slider, praying mantis, lizards, geckos and snakes. If DS can catch it, we normally set up a habitat for the critter for a day or two. We also keep 'pet' crickets a few times a year, plus whatever caterpillars we happen to find in the garden.
oldskool
We used to have a class fish (he has since died). He sat in the middle of our dining room table where we do school. My dd had class pets in preschool and wanted to have one here when she started homeschooling alongside her brother and sister. It was fun. lmrich
I call my turtles our class pet. They are in the classroom so that makes sense. Or course the dog and cat can wander in and out.
5LittleMonkeys
We have two Dumbo rats that frequently join us for school time. They like traveling from lap to lap under the table. The dc like to try to guess who's lap they're on and dd8 always gives it away when they are on her because she giggles uncontrollably.:tongue_smilie:
Impish
Thinking of gold fish to do something from Mudpies to Magnets, but...betas are easier, imo. We already have a mini pony (aka huge dog), a cat, 3 kids, and another on the way. More animals we don't need!
thescrappyhomeschooler
We have a 10 gallon aquarium with 5 fish in it in our classroom/dining room.
Amy in NH
We have a dog who lives in the house, and an occasional lamb wanders through from time to time. Oldest ds is allergic, so the cats stay outside; the chickens would just make a mess, so we don't let them in either. We do sometimes keep a bug in the viewer, or caterpillars/snakes/birds/etc. in a terrarium, as we find the need. They aren't really pets, though, because we do let them go eventually. Miss Cornelia Snook
We have 21 hens, but they don't live in the classroom. My 3 year old wanders into the house with one in her arms from time to time, but she's quickly shooed out. That is the extent of our pet situation. meggie
We have two clown fish and some little critters in a salt water tank. We also have two poison dart frogs. I put up a huge stink when my husband got them because he has to culture flies to feed them. Can you say :ack2:? But it's not so bad and the frogs are actually kind of cute. My husband will put a fly on his finger and let a frog snatch it up. :svengo: The things I am willing to do for my son's education
Mosaicmind
We have 2 rats, Penelope and Blossom...they were born early this year and we got them in March. My kids love them.
goodgollycr
Since we are moving we had to get rid of the iguana and hedgehog. We are taking the dog with us but still need to find somewhere for the cat. In the past we've had tarantulas, fish, swimming frog, scorpions, turtle, hamsters, parrot, hermit crabs, a snake and a second dog.
joannqn
We have three cats and a dog. Homeschool has brought us temporary pets: caterpillars and now a triops. It also led to us getting a goldfish named Tuna. The kids were quite disappointed when we found out we can't have other kinds of fish with the goldfish. We'll be getting it a companion soon. It already has the name Sauce. I never wanted fish, let alone a tank with all of the trimmings and the cleaning to go with it. Ugh!
Chris in VA
We had a pair of gerbils and a cat that would sit on our books. I loved the idea of one critter from each catagory--reptile, bird, mammal, fish (and what's the other one?). Anyway, that's how my son's Montessori teacher did it--they had fish, finches, a prairie dog, a lizard and...something else I can't remember! KidsHappen
We have 4 cats and 2 dogs and the kids keep angling for a small critter of some sort. :glare:
