Tess in the Burbs
My step dad never says anything about homeschooling. My kids read early, we are BUSY in a lot of things. So when he visited recently we were sight seeing. He asked the kids to sing a round with him. They had no idea how. I tried to explain it but they weren't able to do it. My stepdad went on for a bit about them missing out from school. For not knowing how to song a round with others?!?! There is our gap. We can't sing a round. It is only 2 kids Dear stepdad ;-)
Snickerdoodle
I don't even know what that means. Sing a round? It must be an American tradition?
thescrappyhomeschooler
Maybe round-singing needs to offered as a co-op class.:tongue_smilie:
Caterpiller
my two little public schooled cousins (10 and 8) didn't know the song, "I've been working on the rail road" o_o OR how to sing in a round.
meggie
Oh snap, there goes college :001_rolleyes: :tongue_smilie: Silly stepdad.
Hunter's Moon
I don't even know what that means. Sing a round? It must be an American tradition? One person (or group) begins a song and sings the first verse. Then, a second person (or group) begins singing the same song while the other group sings the second verse or chorus. Continue with as many groups as you have. It sounds really cool.
Tess in the Burbs
I am going to suggest it to my friends since we do our own group thing weekly. Then I can check it off the list in case stepdad asks again. Proof of progress ;-)
Ellie
I don't even know what that means. Sing a round? It must be an American tradition? That's where someone starts a song, then someone else comes in singing the same thing, .
dangermom
I don't even know what that means. Sing a round? It must be an American tradition? It's just when one person starts singing the song, then another person starts the same song a few beats later, etc. You've probably heard it and know it by another name. I bet they don't often teach round-singing in school. I think you have to go to camp for that. Maybe your step-dad wants to pay for camp? :D
ChristusG
I remember that we used to do that at church as kids, but never in school. And I had no idea that "singing a round" is what it was called. :001_huh:
Snickerdoodle
Who knew? Never participated in such a thing. Your kids will definitely be scarred for life. ;)
Jen in PA
DD learned this last year at our co-op. I would never have thought to teach it.

Mynyel
Think row, row, row your boat. Singing in a round :)
AndyJoy
I bet they don't often teach round-singing in school. I think you have to go to camp for that. Maybe your step-dad wants to pay for camp? :D I learned it in both public and private school in the late 1980s/early 1990s. I don't know if it's typical now. Rounds were fun, but I preferred singing different parts/songs at the same time such as Swing Low, Sweet Chariot/When the Saints/I'm Gonna Sing/This Train. My Christian elementary used to be split into 4 groups to sing this during chapel and it sounded wonderful!

SpiritCatcher
We did this as children but I haven't taught it to mine just yet. We didn't call it "sing a round" but for the life of me I can't remember what we did call it...
Word Nerd
 I don't remember singing rounds in school, but I do remember singing them at VBS and at 4-H meetings.

Kathleen in VA
I learned that in Girl Scouts. It's a good thing, too, because I'm pretty sure that's what got me into college.:D
elise1mds
Heh. My gap must be that my kids don't know how to square dance. I remember learning that in school, but my kids sure don't know how!
swimmermom3
Given the cuts in many ps music programs, if they even exist, it is likely that many young ps students don't know this skill either.
staceyobu
DD learned this last year at our co-op. I would never have thought to teach it. They do it in Classical Conversations as well.
