Greta
As many of you have heard me whine about before, I have only one child. She's a totally great one, but I would have loved another. I have two brothers, one married and one not, but my daughter remained the only grandchild of my parents . . . until recently. The circumstances aren't exactly ideal. It is not my married brother who is going to be a father, but the unmarried one. His girlfriend found out she was pregnant the day after he broke up with her. :crying: He feels that they really cannot make a relationship work, but he wants to be in the child's life as much as possible, and praise be to God, she wants him to be, and she told me she knows he will be a wonderful father. So they are going to co-parent even though they will not be together. The mother is not in the best of health, and the doctor isn't sure what caused it, but is convinced that she had a miscarriage before (though she didn't know it). She had an ultrasound today. It's a girl! :001_smile: They were both hoping for a girl, so I am so happy for them. But the doc or tech who performed the ultrasound is referring her on to a specialist, and I don't have the details about why yet. My brother did say that it is very common for this guy to do that, so they weren't worrying at this point. But that combined with her history, well, if you feel like praying for my little niece to make it safely in to this world, I would be so very, very grateful. Thank you! :grouphug:

Greta
I just received more information from the mom. She said that the reason the doc is referring her to the specialist is that the baby does not appear to have grown to the size that she should be. She looks to be about 3 weeks "behind schedule". Does anyone know if this is something for me to freak out about???

Does anyone know if this is something for me to freak out about??? I wouldn't without more information. I've been 2 weeks "ahead of schedule" since 28 weeks or so. All that means is that my baby is in the 74th percentile for his ESTIMATED size. And u/s can be off by quite a bit. Based on all of that, I'm prepared to deliver a baby that will be anywhere from 7 to 11 pounds, lol.

I don't know why I didn't think about it that way -- when my daughter was born, she was only at the 25th percentile for her weight. That wouldn't be surprising to anyone who took a look at her parents - we are both built pretty slender and don't weigh all that much for our height. She was also only at the 13th percentile for her head circumference, and the NP absolutely freaked out about that, and had me absolutely freaked out about it too. She ordered an ultrasound of my daughter's brain and told me it was just too soon to predict what sort of neurological problems she might have. You can imagine how frantic I was, as a new mother. But my husband just happens to have a smaller than average head, and my daughter took that after him. She is a perfectly normal, intelligent, fully developed child. But it took me YEARS to stop worrying! So I'm going to assume that my niece just happens to be a bit petite, and that's all there is to this. Thank you again! And congratulations on your pregnancy!!! :001_smile:

Greta
I want to thank you all so very, very much for your prayers and kind thoughts. I am going to humbly ask for prayers of another sort now. This past week, my brother's girlfriend had an appointment for another ultrasound to check on the baby's growth and development. They discovered that the baby had died. Naturally, the mother is quite distraught -- hurting deeply from the loss and fearing that she will never be able to carry to full term since this is her second miscarriage. My brother also, though very stoic and mostly thinking of the mother and not himself, is of course hurting. My entire family is sad that we will not get to watch that sweet little baby grow up. The mother has a cousin who recently gave birth to twins. So she is going to move in with her and be a full-time nanny. I am hopeful that the love for her two beautiful baby cousins will help ease the pain of her loss. If you could say a little prayer for peace and comfort for my brother and his ex-gf, I would be so very grateful. And a little prayer for my niece who is in the arms of the Lord. And if you are not the praying type, kind thoughts are also deeply and sincerely appreciated. Thank you, Greta

clarkacademy
I had an ultra sound that said my baby was almost 10 lbs. I was already high risk so they induced 2 weeks early. She barely weighed 5 pounds. She had no tears and was still completely coated in that white stuff. Her little nails were like paper. Healthy THANK GOD!!!! Ultrasounds can be so off.
