Jennifer in MI
We're going to be at my mom's and dad's house for my 40th birthday next week. My mom has asked what I want for dinner. I told her Kraft Mac and Cheese! But, I was kidding. Anyway, I seriously don't know what I want! She'll do whatever I ask. So, what would you ask for? SailorMom
Fondue!
JudoMom
My dh & boys made me tacos for my birthday dinner. I love tacos :001_smile:.
thescrappyhomeschooler
Fondue does sound good. So do tacos. But, I'd pick Chinese or Middle Eastern food if it were up to me. I'd probably order out, since my mom is not a cook.
NanceXToo
Brisket. :drool5:
snickelfritz
Kraut, mashed potatoes, spare ribs. My MIL makes that for my birthday dinner every year.
Mrs Mungo
If my mom was offering to make a birthday dinner, I would have her make lasagna or "messy tacos." Messy tacos are like tacos but served with corn tortillas heated in tomato sauce. It's a family thing.
mom4him
Just the fact that someone else was cooking would be the best treat in the world for me.
4kiddies
What was your favorite meal growing up that you don't really eat anymore? Ask her to make that.

Annie
Mmmm. I'd ask my mom for beef stroganoff.
unsinkable
Happy Almost Birthday!!!! I'd have something like Chicken Marsala if the person could cook it. Maybe just pick whatever your mom's "specialty" is...if you like it. You'd guarantee yourself an awesome dinner.
Jennifer in MI
Thanks all! And, thanks for the early birthday wishes. My mom is a decent cook. But, growing up, she always made things healthier than the recipe called for. So, if we wanted hamburgers for our birthday dinner, she'd make homemade ketchup. Usually for our birthdays, we wanted the junky stuff because we never got it. So, if I asked for some of these things, she'd find a way to make it healthier. And, while I like that for every day cooking, I wanted something different on my birthday. Honestly, I'd rather go out for middle eastern or Indian food. But, they live in a very small town and that isn't available. We'll be coming back and going out to dinner for our ds' 13th birthday the following week. So, I'll get my fill then. You know what I did though? I sent her Pioneer Woman's website and told her to pick a couple dishes from that website and surprise me. I think she'll like that. And, really, you can't go wrong with those recipes. Mom tends to follow a recipe exactly the first time she makes it!!

Parrothead
If my mom were close enough to cook me something for my birthday I'd ask for one of my favorites - tacos or cheeseburgers. I'd also ask for German chocolate cake.

bunnyvirus
I would suggest a very fancy dinner with chocolate fondue and wine. :D
kitten18
I would ask for Barbecue Meatballs, Cheesy Potatoes (hashbrown casserole) and Corn Casserole. This is the 'country cook' type comfort foods that I grew up with but I don't make very often myself. I do actually make this meal every year for the night before Thanksgiving so we will be having it next week. ;)
