1970's Memory Lane anyone...

Recommended Posts

Oh my! This was posted on a yahoo group I belong to and I had to share it here!:D This brought back sooooooo many memories of when I was a little girl. Would love to hear what you remember.

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S......

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually

worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. Mine was blue and white!

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal

wheels. I had to attach mine onto my shoes!

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!):)I'll admit it!...and what about Ponch on Chips! there was a security guard at our local mall who looked just like him and my friends and I followed him around everywhere!

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island .

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill".

People sometimes thought you were a boy.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

YEAH! You owned a "Slip-n-Slide" on which you injured yourself on a

sprinkler head more than once.

You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession. I had one!

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers. Yep!

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon. Never got it though.:(

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny

shredded outfits, or the sunshine family

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze.

The swing set tipped over at least once. ROTFL! Totally!:p

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)

With little beads that hung off the ends...remember!?

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the

buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals. Had 'em!

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson! Had THAT picture!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!

PONG! ("video tennis" ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of ! Remember Coleco Vision?

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it

"pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off" A different colored comb for every outfit!

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry

Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.

With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you

dropped them. Yep!

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was

your boyfriend.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too! Every one and GI Joe!

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry.

Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?" Mine were Kirk Cameron, Ricky Schroeder, and the Coreys (Haim and Feldman!)

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame

soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's

eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape

player up to the speaker. Did this numerous times!

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat. And Young Miss!

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.

(Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.) This was banned from our school, but I remember ready page 57 (?) over and over again!

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics. (?? its not??)

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with hearts or *rainb ow* designs. Still have some!

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first "real"

perfume you ever owned. ROTFL...this is TRUE! And the scent Skin.

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped

off.

What are some of your memories?

Rolf! Some of that carried over into the 80s 'cause I was born in '78 and most of that sounds like me. My grandmother recently gave me a Kirk Cameron poster I left @ her house.

oh and my dd wears baby soft now. It is great I still love that smell-not that I will wear it-

Anyone seen the new American Girl catalog? Julie is the girl from the 70s, and yes, she has a Barbie Stylin' Fun head!

AAAAACK!! I'm history!!!!!!!

Thanks for the laugh - I sure remember singing "When the Deep Purple Falls" and watching purple socks tumble down on Donny Osmond. Anyone else remember that?

finishing world war II projects with my kids - what will MY generation be remembered for? Cheap pop culture????

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. Yes...silver sparkly seat.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal

wheels. I loved those skates, wish they still made them.

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island . (I liked Ricardo Montalban, no nightmares.)

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill". Pixie...Aaaaagh!

People sometimes thought you were a boy. Tell me about it.

You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once. :)

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession. I wished but never got one.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers. Gauchos and ponchos, no knickers.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny

shredded outfits, or the sunshine family. Sunshine Family for me... and Malibu Barbie and Ken

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze.

The swing set tipped over at least once. ROTFL! Totally!

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson! I loved "Gunne Sax" fashion.

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink! Who cared about the kiss, I would have been happy being asked to skate "couples."

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it

"pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off" . Uh, I still have my wings, and sometimes even the comb in my back pocket.:o

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags! Don't forget the Sound of Music.

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry.

Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?" Didn't have a magic 8 ball, so I asked the cootie-catcher.

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame

soundtrack record album. Are you kidding? My mother wouldn't have let one of those pass our threshold.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's

eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape

player up to the speaker. A favorite pastime.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.(Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.) This and other books that were passed around in the cafeteria. :)

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped

off.

Anybody remember Dawn dolls? What about records on the back of cereal boxes?

I managed the feathered hair...until puberty hit and the feathers got kinky.

Roller Rink was best when they turned out the lights and you skated to the sparkles from the dazzle ball!

I still own a set of GLASS "Klick-Klacks".

We parted company with the Sunshine Family about a year ago. Ken had a removable leg, poor guy.

I also owned Dancerina (is that the right name?) - the doll in the tutu with the jointed legs that spun in lovely pirouettes when you pulled up the center of her crown.

And Thingmaker flower mold doohickies complete with GOOP

I listened to Jim Croce, Donnie Osmond, The Partridge Family, and Carole King.

I loved "I Dream of Jeanie" and wanted a pink circular bed.

I used to love watching my turquoise elephant leg bell bottoms poof out on the swing set.

I had to fight my mother for a pair of platform shoes.

My banana seat was white, but my bike was banana yellow with tassles on the handle bars.

My first foreign (ahem!) kiss was at church camp.

Me too. I remember most of them, but some of them were AFTER my time. I remember the roller rink, Donny Osmond, Parker Stevenson (I always marched to the beat of a different drummer!) and BARRY MANILOW and the Bee Gees, Saturday Night Live, and Elton John. I still remember us turning the record player down in our classroom when a certain 4 letter word starting with D.... I look back now and think...I'm sure our teacher knew. And I also think back to a song that had 1 profane word in it...Boy, those WERE the good old days!

That's hysterical. Did anyone else stick their comb in the back of their baby-blue corduroy jeans?

I soooo wanted to have feathered hair - never worked.

I remember giving my sister's Cher doll and her Dawn dolls lovely haircuts. (I need to send this to her)

You, bet ya! I miss cords, and having my comb handy to comb my feathered hair. LoL.

Oh the memories...

Well the lunch box was The Partridge Family. One of my best memories of my father was him holding me on his shoulders(so I could see) at a David Cassidy concert. You have to love a dad like that. My dad died in 1972 so this memory is very special to me,

I had, remember, did, or wanted many of the things mentioned on the list.

I also remember watching Happy Days,The Brady Bunch, and After School specials(they should still show those)

I can see myself now riding down the street on my banana seat bike, with my feathered hair and my pink comb in my back pocket(I still have the comb LOL)

I also remember those little white shell necklaces(what were they called?)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I LOVED this when I first read it about a year ago! So much of it described my childhood and preteen years to a T.

I got the Julie AG doll today for my birthday, because all her things remind me of being a kid! My mom even got me the little Barbie quick curl which I had as a kid also!

But what I want to know is - did everyone else believe that Mikey from the Life cereal commercial died eating poprocks and drinking coke at the same time?? Were you surprised when he showed up later as an adult in their advertising? :p

I still have my Dawn dolls! They are in her Fashion Case, and I have Angie and Gary along with clothes, shoes, etc. for all of them. My dd played with them for awhile, but then I put them away.

I also have a Susie Cute doll. Anyone remember her? I got her when I turned 6yo, but that was in the 60's. Too far back? I still have her and her clothes and some of her furniture: crib, dresser, high chair and bathtub.

Anyone remember Penny Bright? I still have her, too, but I only have a few of the clothes sold in the stores. My grandmother bought a pattern for her (yes, they sold them!) and HAND STITCHED a whole wardrobe for her. They are the most durable and cute clothes! What a treasure.

I had the skates you attached to your shoes and the key.

I hated Fantasy Island, but LOVED Love Boat.

Wizard of Oz was looked forward to every year in our home with GREAT anticipation, as well as Cinderella with Leslie-Ann Warren.

My 'love' was Mike Nesmith from The Monkees, Mark Goddard (played 'Don') from Lost in Space, and then in my teens it was Parker Stevenson from Hardy Boys. I loved to watch old black-and-white TV shows.

Ah, the memories.......;)

I had a Barbie quick curl too! And a Camping Kelly. And a doll with long red hair whose hair came out of the top of her head when you pumped her arm. Can't remember the name of that one.

I only got "cool" clothes when my friends gave me their hand-me-downs. I got a pair of sky blue elephant pants, a pink body suit, and violet hip-hugger-cordoroy-bell bottoms.

I still have my Honey Hill Bunch club house. I didn't have a Holly Hobbie sleeping bag...mine was Raggedy Ann. I still have it also.

I also still have my EZ Bake oven. Can you believe my parents paid $15 for it? It is the exact same price today. And why did I hang onto this all these years? Someone please tell me because DDs pans won't fit into the thing.

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S......I've bolded my answers

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually

worked. I hated this stupid kit, I just stole my mother's real stethescope, :)

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. Mine was blue and white!

Yeah, and that flipping thing killed me to ride it. I ended up stealing my brother's BMX bike.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)NO! I had a crush on Bo Duke, and BJ (Greg Evigan) and Shaun Cassidy.

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island .

Umm, no. I LOVED that show. Adored it. Then I started watching Dr. Who and Benny Hill and I was never normal again.

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill".

I had a Dorothy Hamil at one time. Sucked too.

People sometimes thought you were a boy.

Not when you have boobs in the 3rd grade they don't.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

I've never seen snow and in Florida, it's a requirement to be barefoot in the rain.

YEAH! You owned a "Slip-n-Slide" on which you injured yourself on a

sprinkler head more than once.

YEAH! And I broke my freakin' neck playing on it too! You so cannot use that thing with boobs.

You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once

Umm, this is why I never skated either. :)

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession. I had one!

With little beads that hung off the ends...remember!?

Yeah, thanks to my mother, the mad knitter.

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the

buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals. Had 'em!

Ok, first of all, the salt-water sandals are the 80's and they were called Jellies, and yes, I owned stock in them too, just as many pairs of them as I had Dr. Scholl's.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson! Had THAT picture!

OH HECK NO! I HATE Little House. I absolutely refused to watch it, ever! Never ever. I cannot stand it.

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!

Umm, what if it was? And for the record, this is 80's too. While doing the Pac Man Fever.

PONG! ("video tennis" ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of ! Remember Coleco Vision?

OK, someone really needs to do their research.. Pong is 1981-2. Sheesh. And I owned it, coleco, atari, all of them.

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it

"pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

Umm, again, 80's. Farah Fawcett anyone?

When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off" A different colored comb for every outfit!

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry

Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

Both of these are again, 80's!!! And I still have my original Strawberry Shortcake.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.

With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you

dropped them. Yep!

No, unfortunately, I had a Dukes of Hazzard lunch box. I was the cool kid. :)

Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?"

Again, EIGHTIES!!! Sheesh people, a little research? (with exception of Shaun Cassidy, leif and David)

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame

soundtrack record album.

I STILL have my Fame in Concert album. The actual RECORD. Of course, nothing to play it on now.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's

eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

Eww, no

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

Shrinky Dinks ROCK!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape

player up to the speaker. Did this numerous times!

EIGHTIES!!

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat. And Young Miss!

EIGHTIES!!

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.

(Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)

ALL EIGHTIES!!!! GAH!! I hate it when people can't flipping google. :)

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped

off.

I used to eat this stuff.

I am totally an 80's baby. Most of this stuff is 80's. Now, you want to talk 80's, I'll kick yer butt at Trivial Pursuit!!

They were called Puka shell necklaces. You and I must be of the same "vintage" because I had a Partridge Family lunchbox too. And while I didn't get to go to the David Cassidy concert, I was a card-carrying member of his fan club! And I remember watching Happy Days, Brady Bunch, and Partridge Family (and Love American Style if my parents got preoccupied).

I had a pixie haircut and was mistaken for a boy many times. No fair! Now I would kill for that high-cheekboned look, but it made my life miserable in 3rd grade. Pixies are just not....cool, you know?

Oh, and GothicGyrl? Yoo-hoo, GothicGyrl? We got a "Pong" game in 1973. They were released to the public in 1972. This was pre-computers -- you had to play it on your television set. It was so very, very slow.............. but we thought it was great? And the first Star Wars movie came out in 1977. I remember, because it was one of my very first dates.

1977 is practically the 80's :) and I had a Pong on the tv set, in 1981. :) And yes, the 1st one came out in 1977, but umm, since that's practically the 80's, my point stands (where's the fanged tongue icon?) :)<

We had a Pong game in the 70's...the first model--I can't belive that we spent HOURS watching that little white light/ball go back and forth...We also had the first microwave/radar-range in our town--a rich uncle bought it for us and lots of WEALTHY people came over to see the amazing machine...it was funny to be so poor and to have something that the rich wanted!

It is just AMAZING how close this list was to my life!

This was so fun to read through. I had a huge collection of Charlie's Angels trading cards, as well as the Hardy Boys cards. Remember those flip flops with the striped soles and velour/suede/whatever that was straps? And satin jackets? And knee socks with pockets? They went with the gauchos!
