TracyP
I have four kids: 10 mos, 2, 4 and 6. I won't be leaving the baby so I was thinking maybe $10 for first hour and $5 an hour after that. Sound reasonable?
Gretchen in NJ
:lol:In my area of New Jersey, they wouldn't walk in the door for anything less then $15 per hour. I pay $10 down by the shore at my mother's house.
Starr
We are far from civilization and my dd gets 8 - 10 an hour. I would ask around your neighborhood.
Jan in SC
$10-12 an hour here.
Pam L in Mid Tenn
Ask around. Prices are different in different areas of country. My teen girls charge $7/hour for first child and then add .50 to $1 per child per hour on top of that.
jenL
$7 an hour here.
TravelingChris
My daughter is getting 10/hr here. That is for one child. For four, I think it should be at least 15.
TN Mama
The going rates here range from $7-$10 per hour.
gemrae
I pay $8/hr for one 8 year old. I live in a suburb of a mid-size midwestern city.
EarleneW
I pay $10-$15 an hour here depending on who I leave. Noone would sit here for $5/hour.
AngieC
$8 hr for 1 kid. Add $1 per hour for each additional kid. This is for a woman in her 20's. The local 16 year old wanted $6 for 1 kid + $1/kid extra per hr. This is in the midwest in the suburbs of a city.
SonshineLearner
These threads make me wanna "babysit" :-) BTW.... I wanna make the $15... and I'm sure they don't claim it on taxes:-) :-)
KinderSafari
In the backwoods of Wisconsin, we're like 20 years behind the times. My daughter gets paid $4 to $6 an hour regardless of how many kids there are. One person paid her less than $3 an hour and thought that they were being really generous because they paid the daycare person $3 an hour. We've now set a minimum $4 an hour. I'm encouraging her to look into other fields of work in our area. In Minneapolis, they get paid $15 an hour. And have you ever notice what cleaning people get paid per hour? It's usually $10 to $20 more an hour. Hmmmm.....what's more important? Cleaning or the care of children?
Ottakee
Just a spin off.........for those that thing foster parents get RICH from doing foster care----we would get $10-13 a DAY for foster kids-----for 24 hours and we had to feed and clothe them, etc. Glad I very rarely have to pay a babsitter. I would never leave if I had to pay $15/hour for a babysitter. Then again, maybe I should BE the babysitter. I would gladly babysit for that kind of money. If not I will stick with just never leaving the house without all kids in tow.:D
muffinmom
I got $5/hr. 20+ years ago when I was in college. We generally pay $8-$10.
RoughCollie
I charged $0.50 an hour when I was in high school. Boy, have times changed! The Obviously Elderly RC

babysparkler
I believe we do $10-15 depending on the babysitter for our 4 kids (but dh usually takes care of that, so I'm not sure exactly). While we are on the subject... do you mind if I hijack a little bit? We will be going "away" for two nights on Valentine's Day weekend (48 hours to be exact) and were thinking $200... the babysitter is a divorced friend who has a dd the same age as ours and will be staying at our home (with her daughter too) with our 4 kids (9, 7, 4, and 2). Is that a reasonable price? Edited January 18, 2010 by babysparkler
Ottakee
WOW--I babysat for the WRONG people. I got $1/hour most of the time when I babysat 20 years ago. Sometimes $2/hour but never more than that. I would watch NINE kids for 24 hours (including 3 infants---one of which was on a heart monitor) and get $25 for the entire 24 hours. I got $5/hr. 20+ years ago when I was in college. We generally pay $8-$10.
Hoggirl
is what I paid when my ds needed a sitter. That was for one child. I chose that amount b/c that is what the youth in our church get paid for working in the nursery and most of our sitters were youth from our church.
