Dairy Free alternative to freezer pizza night?
almondbutterandjelly replied to ...................'s topic in The Chat Board
Usually I find it in the regular sour cream and butter section. It's never by the tofu. I do have to get it at Sprouts or Natural Grocers, though, as my regular grocery stores don't carry it. -
Dairy Free alternative to freezer pizza night?
almondbutterandjelly replied to ...................'s topic in The Chat Board
Tofutti sour cream is really good, as is Earth Balance margarine. I think the loaded baked potato idea might work. Throw in some bacon and green onion. Yum! -
Since you already bought it, I wanted to make a suggestion. What you are actually "supposed" to do with MUS is the teacher watches the DVD and then teaches the student the lesson afterward on a white board. A lot of us bypass that and just have the student watch the DVD, but that isn't actually what is supposed to happen. The textbook is not written at all so someone can self-teach. It is more like supplemental info to what Mr. Demme did in the video. If you had mentioned that your ds didn't watch videos and that you didn't want to teach, I'm sure none of us would have recommended MUS. Sorry about that. Last thing... I was thinking maybe Key To Geometry might be a fit? There are samples on cbd.com: https://www.christianbook.com/key-to-geometry-books-1-8/pd/43101?event=ESRCG

High School diploma ?
almondbutterandjelly replied to KarenC's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I made my own, but I did put two blanks lines, my signed name on one and the date on the other. A gold seal in between. -
Melissa, Is he watching the dvds? We didn't hardly read the "textbook" at all except for answers or if we were confused by something. It was watch the dvd, then do the student worksheet A. Next day, do student worksheet B. Next day, C. And so on. I did buy some hands on things for angle measurement and shapes and such, mainly from Lakeshore Learning, but that was to add a fun hands on aspect to it. Hope you figure out a way to make it work. It was the least painful geometry we could find.

How many schools should one apply to?
almondbutterandjelly replied to Janeway's topic in The College Board
OP, I have a much younger brother on the spectrum. I picked which college he went to, based on his skills, interests, abilities, and my parents' ability to pay. He went there, did fine, graduated, moved back in with my parents. I typed up his resume, found some job prospects, encouraged him to apply, and he has been working at that employer for the last twelve years or so. It is a "career" type position and he is doing well, still living with my parents but owns his own car and is a full-time professional. You may have to do more hand-holding with your son than a neuro-typical kid. That's okay. -

almondbutterandjelly replied to Janeway's topic in The College Board
If you are concerned that you cannot afford the schools, then you should probably keep looking. Son is content with these choices because Son is not paying the bills, I would imagine. FWIW, my dd has chosen to live at home and attend school, so she only applied to one place, our local university. If she hadn't gotten in, she would have attended our local community college. -
Geography
almondbutterandjelly replied to Maggie2354's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I can only tell you what we did. I don't know that it was the best way. I wasn't going to do geography because I was doing three years of world history and one of US History. However, in my state, they do tend to require World Geography in public high school, and I wanted my dd to slide into admissions into our public university with no question, so once she picked her school, I decided to throw in a year of World Geography. We started with Ace Paces and got about half way through. They are painfully the opposite of modern, however, so I had to stop. We then studied Usborne's Geography and DK Geography. That finished out our year. If I had to do it again, I'd probably do something else. I had really been hoping for a git'er done approach, though. Sigh. -
9th grade ancients
almondbutterandjelly replied to happypamama's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
World History: Our Human Story is the high school level of the K12 books (Human Odyssey is the middle school level). It's almost 1000 pages, so presumably you could just do the ancients pages (I'm guessing 250 pages or so) and supplement as desired. -
My dh is very handy, and he won't do exterior doors. So my vote is hire someone.

Summer Reading / Middle Schoolers / Slow Readers
almondbutterandjelly replied to SKL's topic in The Chat Board
She may need to practice reading, but there's no reason it can't be from books and magazines that she actually enjoys. If she's an auditory learner, I have no problem with her listening to the audiobook of the "required reading." FWIW, we just watched the movie for To Kill a Mockingbird, because we're too busy to be reading it but I wanted exposure. (although I am aware that it differs a bit from the book) -
Well, that's interesting. If the thought of going to that school depresses her, then maybe you should "decide" to go to the other school and see how that feels. I will be an outlier and say that I don't think it matters that much which university you go to, and surely the professors are not so mediocre. Maybe they are shy and not in the mood to chat with prospective students (or however you made your determination about them). If she really loves the private LAC, then go there.

Where can I find cargo shorts for girls.

Academy carries Dickies Cargo Shorts for women. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/dickies-womens-11-in-cotton-cargo-short#repChildCatSku=114494521 -
I'm in south Texas, and I find that 100% cotton, woven fabric is best. Knit gets hot. Nylon gets hot. I wear the "sunwashed canvas" cropped pants from LL Bean. They also have a shorts version. https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/53604?page=original-sunwashed-canvas-pants-cropped&bc=12-27-622&feat=622-GN1&csp=f https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/31068?page=sunwashed-canvas-shorts%26csp=a%26feat=53604-item_page.recsmiddle

Go with your Mama Gut. I can tell you that I bought Plaid and never used it. WWE we were about two years behind, and we NEVER did dictation in it. Rod and Staff English like to killed my dd. She literally said it was invented to torture children (and we did it orally, too, by the way). I have not used the other programs. Just remember they are still so little at that age. They don't need to do a ton of writing.

Earth Balance for butter. Ener-G Egg Replacer or Bob's Red Mill Egg Replacer for baked goods. Most pizza places you can order no cheese, and their crusts are often safe. The internet has all their ingredients. Best of luck! -

Planter Fasciitis - What worked for you?
almondbutterandjelly replied to datgh's topic in The Chat Board
My dd had this problem as a child. It turned out she had flat feet. She now wears running shoes from Fleet Feet (they will watch your gait and fit them for you) or Crocs or we put Superfeet (also from Fleet Feet where they fit them to the shoes you want to wear) in all other shoes. Good shoes. Oh, yeah, and she is never barefoot, even in the house, except for showers.
