  1. It takes my dd13 about 6 hours to complete school. She uses OM 6 for Science and Ancient Civilizations/English, and she uses Saxon Math, Galore Park Spanish, Ambleside Online for nature study, art, poetry & composers (on a rotating schedule), and Bible.
  2. :) We are attending a park day this Thursday and our local public schools are on Spring Break. I guess I'm going to brave it!
  3. No. I have several friends who live in mobile homes. Some are very neat, and others could really use a major clean...just like any house...including mine, depending on which day you choose to visit.
  4. My 13yo daughter just got braces and my 10yo son will get space maintainers (?) and headgear soon. With all the $$ this is going to cost, plus we have a 2 hour roundtrip each time we visit the ortho, my kids will comply or face my consequences! ;)
  5. I got my first last year when I turned 38. It is the Chinese character for strength. It is in honor of my daughters: my younger, because she is Chinese, and my older, because I asked her to give me one word that characterized me and she said "strength." I am getting another tattoo soon, this time the Chinese character for faith. ETA: My tattoo is on my right wrist. My next one will be on my left wrist. I love my tattoo and can't wait until I get my next one! :)
  6. My kids cover a wide range. My oldest read at 4, fluently at 5. My older daughter read at 5, fluently at 6. My younger son read at 7, fluently at 8. My special needs daughter is unable to read at this time.
  7. Clean, folded and sitting on our dressers waiting to be put away...and waiting...and waiting... But I consider it caught up! :)
  8. I consolidate. My favorite days are the ones in which the kids and I get to just stay home, do school, and chill out together.
  9. I didn't see a thread yet, so I started one: This past school week: http://freeindeed-redkitchen.blogspot.com/2014/04/homeschooling-and-life-week-of-march-31.html Spring Break (the week before): http://freeindeed-redkitchen.blogspot.com/2014/04/spring-break-2014.html
  10. Our church is very casual, but I dress up when the mood strikes me.
  11. My dd13 is headed into 8th grade next year. I am nervous, too. We have increased our writing this year and plan to add in even more next year.
  12. I finished the first. I liked it, but didn't "love" it. I do "love" The Hunger Games Series, but the Divergent series (so far) is not nearly as exciting or interesting. Right now I'm a few chapters into the second book of The Divergent Series, and I'm just not that into it.
  13. Unsweetened coconut is low carb, so that's fine. Also, you can make a coconut flour crust. Here's a recipe: http://genaw.com/lowcarb/favorite_pie_crust.html
  14. I used it with my ds10 last year. We loved it! It is a great study. We learned so much and had a blast doing it.
  15. Confession: we are taking off school today and tomorrow so I can prepare for my youngest's birthday party Saturday. Next week is our spring break, so we're just getting a jumpstart. :) Maybe you need a spring break today. ;)
  16. Thanks, everyone. I will look into the suggestions. It is the first year for my son to do any foreign language. My dd13 had two years of Latin prior to starting her first year of Spanish this year. They both struggle with the vocabulary, as well as the grammar...it's everything. They do really well in all of their other subjects, but they both strongly dislike learning foreign languages. I am sure their strong dislike is placing a barrier to their learning.
  17. I use Ambleside Online: http://www.amblesideonline.org/ArtSch.shtml http://www.amblesideonline.org/ComposerSch.shtml
  18. I just joined myself...doing good so far. I'll have my kids join tomorrow. Thanks!
